My thought, too. Swap the dishwasher drain "T" with the horizontal pipe
immediately above the trap; make sure the DW drain connection is on topside
of pipe and "headed/angled" down slope (toward the trap).

Then, you must have an up loop to at least highest possible water level in
the sink - usually touching underside of cabinet top by the sink or
underside of sink at cabinet top level.
Additional air gap not required here, either.

Wilton's suggestion lead me to
kitchen sink (water
can not siphon (nor run/drain) from the sink back past the air gap). (See
illustrations in Goggle's "images for plumbing dishwasher."
If you don't have either the gap or the up loop, you've been lucky. I hope
you continue to be so.

Google "plumbing dish washer drain;" click on "images for plumbing

ing up from the terrible "state
of affairs" inside washer. Garbage (kitchen drain pipe stuff) had backed up
into the washer and rotted. 'Had a helluva time cleaning it, and, of
course, plumbed the drain properly with an up loop to underside of cabinet
(well above sink drain level).
'Should have an up loop.

Kaleb,
I just checked my Maytag install
Should be BEFORE the trap! After the trap can allow some BAD stuff to enter
the dishwasher.

My thoughts, too, but I've seen mechanics for many years, including some
current videos, slathering it WITHIN the assemblies. On my JD garden
tractor, I merely encapsulated the terminal assembly in a cocoon of it.

I'll bet she could, too - a mighty fine young lady (20). When I told her
about my "condition" (CIDP - chronic inflammatory demylinatiing
polyneuropathy), she knew exactly what I was talking about - a rarity.
