Keep a hose handy. Speedi-rinse might save your paint.

I like just putting bake fluid in the reservoir and just using the pressure
bleeder to provide pressure. You have fewer problems with bubbles and
potential foaming, I’ve found. It’s not a big deal to have to pull the cap and
replenish the fluid occasionally.

I would add that I had an unfortunate incident with an “Easy Bleed” one time
where the cap popped off the reservoir during bleeding, spraying brake fluid
all over the place. Did some damage to my paint.

Ever since then I always put a towel over the reservoir and bleeder when it’s
under pressure. That way if something does pop loose it won’t spray brake
fluid all over.

To be honest, I prefer suction bleeding with a hand vacuum pump and overflow
bottle. It takes a little longer, but it works well for me. After the
incident with the pressure bleeder I’m a bit gun shy about having pressurized
brake fluid around my car...

Mitch,

I hadn't thought of that! I will try again...

I've got to install new hoses on the rear brake calipers, will start by
filling the power bleeder so that it has plenty of time to "air out" before
use.

The other thing you can do with a pressurized bleeder if put the
fresh fluid in at the wheels, and that helps push the air up and out
at the high spot, the MC.

You can find the procedure online. I did this once, when I could not
find a way to bleed the ABS.

ABS brake bleeding is more tricky than plain dual circuit, which are
a little more complicated than the old single circuit brakes.

I've got to install new hoses on the rear brake calipers, will start by
filling the power bleeder so that it has plenty of time to "air out" before

Did you ever pour brake fluid and see that the container you poured
into has thousands of barely visible microbubbles in it?

I don't like to pedal bleed from a reservoir that had fluid added to
it in the past half hour.

If I used a pressure bleeder, I'd fill the tank and give it time to
de-air itself before using it.

Just seemed like the most likely reason for a soft pedal.

2015-08-17 Thread Meade Dillon via Mercedes
Dan,

I wish I'd taken a picture. I looked at how the old pads and sensors were
joined, and inserted the sensor pin into the same hole (center of the
spring clip) on the new pads. There are two ways that I could see to
install them, I tried both. One method (wrong) resulted in no click - no
stick, the sensor would just fall right out. The spring clip can be
removed and flipped over to present a smaller hole, I had to do that on one
pad, and then a weak "click" and the sensor stayed in place, but with some
movement. Maybe I'll dig an old pad out of the trash and take a picture.

Last night I installed new Akebono Ultra Premium ceramic pads (part#
EUR423) in my '87 300TD. Made in USA, and about $46 via Amazon.

Two problems. Well, maybe only one can be attributed to the new pads.

The MB pad wear sensors are supposed to clip into holes in the pads, but
the holes are slightly too large and the sensors flop around a bit, As
long as they don't fall out, I think they'll work fine, but they don't fit
as well as in the OE or OEM pads.

The pedal feel was nice and firm with Pagid "normal" pads, but now the
pedal feel is toward the squishy end. I blame the new pads. I also
changed the front brake hoses at the same time, so perhaps the new ATE
hoses are to blame or are part of the problem. They are a 129 part number
now.
