Is slipping in high gear a fatal symptom to the 240D auto trans? (1981)
yes, it flares at every shift. i shift manually and try to let up on
the pedal and try to minimize the flare. We also don't drive it too
far from home.

I agree, but getting out the pedal set was a royal pain. I am not
sure I can contort enough to get the new pedal set in. The rest of
it is pretty straightforward.
One other thing I am considering is a 82-83 trans with the big box
doohicky that sits on the side between the IP and the oelfilte
