The main problems with burning engine oil have to do with excessive residue (oil ash) collecting on the pistons and particulate material damaging the injection pump. Recycle the oil, it can be re-refined into usable motor oil and burn diesel fuel. Peter

REALLY old gasoline consists of residual dye (gas is actually clear -- remember white gas for Coleman stoves?), detergent, and the heavy ends (diesel fuel). Badly evaporated enough, and it won't even light with a match! Needless to say, it won't burn worth diddly, nor will the engine start

CO meters are getting hard to find, and yes, an O2 sensor will work just as well -- I believe there are kits that use them. Must be installed in the exhaust, of course, so you need to find someone to weld the fitting on. Check around, you can probably find an auto shop that still has a CO
