The 96W HO cold-start bulbs in the new garage have been pretty drama-free.
I think we just lost our second bulb last year. They've been installed
about 15 years now, and always just work. There are 30 of them, it's
pretty bright out there.

No I mean the fluor drama with having to deal with ballasts and tubes in
the slots just right and having to touch them or jiggle them or
whatever.  Then they get to where they are flickering which is annoying
as hell, or have this sorta wave traveling through them.

With LEDs it seems the power supplies go bad before the actual LEDs do,
I have some of the little LED spots that the PSs are going flaky and
there is some flickering but in general they seem to just work until
they don't, which might be a long time, or til whenever the PS fries.
Then you just change the bulb/fixture and be done with it.

On another aspect, I put in some outdoor LED spots I got at Costco,
those big things for lighting up out back, and they are noticeably
brighter than the halogens and have better light.  The halogens seem to
burn out every year or two, I'm going to watch these things and see how
they hold up.  They weigh almost nothing too.

Dude, I wouldn’t go near or touch anything that John Menard is involved with.
That guy is a total psychopath. We learned this when we lived in Wisconsin
back in the late 80s and a neighbor was a local store manager. The stories that
guy told us were nothing short of frightening. It wasn’t until some years
later we realized it was all true.

Read this for grins and giggles:

That makes sense.

Here’s a good article on Costco’s pricing codes and things like that:

Also be aware that in many cases the stuff that they’re closing out will be in
back or against exterior walls. The $0.97 ending is also a giveaway.

They had a coupla pallets full at the store when I bought mine, but
like most Costco stuff that is not a staple they get stuff in, it
sells out, they might or might not get more in at some point. So stuff
like that you have to buy when they have it.

I wanted to get a patio/deck set. They had a couple at the store. By
the time management decided that set was preferred, they had no more.
I ask the guy to order one as they had them on the web site, he said
they couldn't do that, they got whatever corporate decided to put on
the truck on Mondays and Thursdays, they would know the day before,
when the truck was loaded, what was coming. OK I say, call me when
one is on the truck, or I'll pay for one now, for whenever one shows
up. No can do. Ultimately some did show up, I called to find out if
they had them, they did, so I went and got the set. They don't seem
big on that kind of customer service.

But to answer your question, you need to be blessed to get in the
store or buy stuff on the web site.

(the deck set was like $300 more on the web site than in the store)
