Thanks Steve,
That so interesting to consider, cowbirds following the bison herds. I’ve
always wondered why the cowbirds would lay their eggs in other birds nests.

Sounds like a tribute to me. I met him for the first time at Carpenter
Nature Center, March 29, 2019. He changed the way I’m looking at navigating
my retirement with his stories. To contribute, to teach, to learn and get a
few chuckles.

I heard the night hawk as I went to bed last night, in St Paul, on the West
End,
near Randolph Ave. I'm hoping to share residency again this year.

I came out to have my dinner around 8:30pm, I was grateful the menacing
house sparrows had gone to bed. When I thought I hear the nighthawk. And
sure enough I did, along with the cardinal, the robin, the chipping sparrow,

then in the background I heard the chimney swift. It was a sweet l

I was Up North a bit on the White Fish Chain of Lakes. And from a long
distance I saw a huge number of fish and bird in the distance all clustered
together. I thought they might be terns by the way there were flying but
there was dark in the water and the terns were flying very close by. As w
I was on the Mississippi River between the Camden Bridge and the new Lowry

rookery. There was even a camper on the island. From the east river bed
without binoculars I could see at least eight nests.
I know the herons lost the
tornado, has anyone
followed their recovery on the river?

I see a pair of Indigo Buntings every time I get Randolph and Shepard Road,
just at the beginning of the decent of the path and just before Island
Station. So blue next to the green leaves.

We went to see the red-heads.
We saw lots of wildflowers, remnants of pussytoes, dragonflies emerging from
the water (there were hundreds of them flying around when we arrived), fox
scat, baby bullheads at the shoreline, lupines in the prairie, and they have
