Late on Monday I found 11 terns at Purgatory Creek near Prairie Center
Drive and Technology Drive in Eden Prairie. It appeared that at least five
were Common Terns. All were in basic (breeding) plumage.

This morning as I left the house, I thought I saw a hummingbird make a hasty
retreat from the daffodils. I checked the Ruby-throated hummingbird
migration map, and they have sightings in Minnesota and Wisconsin yesterday.
Hopefully, I will get the feeder out tonight.

my appologies. I have had a couple of requests for directions to Schaar's
Bluff. The Schaar's Bluff unit of Spring Lake Park can be reached by taking
the Hastings cutoff from Hwys 52 and 55. Then take CR42 east to the turn
for the park on Ideal. While it is a good place to find the

At 6:30pm in deep dusk I had a large falcon fly about 20 feet above me near
the entrance to the Minneapolis - St. Paul Airport. I ID'd it as a probable
Prairie Falcon mainly because of its slightly flaired tail (see Sibley for
the best comparison).

A Great Grey Owl was seen this evening at dusk in Elm Creek Park in Champlin.
I was on Zachary Lane just before it becomes
Hayden Lake Road just north of the pet exercise area. The owl was seen in an
elm tree in the field to the west.

Stopped by the post office to look for the Great Gray. It was after 5:30. The
sun was down and dark was advanced. A drive
around the post office and I was able to locate a parked car whose driver had
her binoculars trained on something. With her
help I was able to find the owl which was

Although the reporter was familiar with immature
Bald Eagles, his description was not very convincing. The bird was described
as all dark, but larger than the Bald Eagles
feeding there.

A Great Horn Owl is on a nest visible from Hwy 55 in Plymouth at mile marker
178. This is between CR101 (south) and CR 9
24. The nest is on the north side of the highway behind a white shack
(abandoned?).
