[Nagios-users-br] duvida nagios

2009-03-24 Thread Benvinda Barbosa
Olá. Boa tarde,
Cumprimentos, Benvinda

Olá Benvinda

Vamos inicialmente ficar com os plugins oficiais...

Voce quer monitorar CPU de qual equipamento?

Temos três possibilidades:
1 - do proprio servidor do Nagios
2 - de servidor Unix/Linux remoto
3 - De servidor windows remoto

Qual destes três tipos de servidor voce precisa monitorar?

Cada um voce fará diferente, apesar que o 2 e 3 têm uma similaridade...

Re: [Nagios-users] Nagios with Trouble Ticket system or, Managment System integration

2009-03-24 Thread Felipe Ferreira
I was able to have nagios open a ticket in CA-Service Desk. I wrote a
plugin script, and I published it. Basically if your Service Desk server
allows open ticket via command line and that server has NRPE_NT then
nagios is flexible enough to work.

Take a look at my script and let me know if you need more help.

[Nagios-users] NRPE vs. check_by_ssh

2009-03-24 Thread Christopher McAtackney
Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could give a brief overview of the pros /
cons of using NRPE to monitor my remote hosts versus using the
check_by_ssh command?

I'm aware that check_by_ssh increases the CPU overhead, but I'm not
clear on the level of impact here - does this increase the load on the
monitoring machine in direction relation to the number of hosts being
monitored? For example, if I was using check_by_ssh to monitor, say,
2000 services spread across 200 hosts, would I experience significant
slowdown on my monitoring machine?

Cheers for any info,

Chris

 hi,

ust SNMP! No need to install anything on the target system. SNMP Agents are
already installed on nearly all systems.

Since everything speaks SNMP you can gather info about hardware, operation
system AND applications, independent of any OS.

 nagios: check_snmp

Right now i am

parameters . I
am looking forward to some help with this. Can i get some link or some
tutorials to
start up with this please .

I have snmpd running on my linux , i need to know what changes i need
to make for
 my snmpd.conf file

There are generally two ways to utilize SNMP with nagios - either you
set up your nagios server to catch SNMP traps (the SNMP trapsink
server),

http://www.nagios.org/faqs/viewfaq.php?faq_id=29
http://www.nagios.org/faqs/viewfaq.php?faq_id=28

or you poll the host/snmpd service for whatever info you like from the
client/nagios side using SNMP - Therefore, unless you are polling your
own server via nagios, tweaking/changing your local snmpd.conf will not
do much good...

Either way, check out http://manubulon.nagios.org - these will fill the
gaps in check_snmp, for either *nix or windows systems.

Another good starting point is :
http://conshell.net/wiki/index.php/Using_Nagios_with_SNMP

jamie

[Nagios-users] NRPE for check_veritas

2009-03-24 Thread Shah, Maunir
I'm getting this error NRPE: Unable to read output when I run the
check_veritas plugin. Nagios server is running Ubuntu and the remote
host is Solaris 10. I know the script runs fine when run locally as
root but I need help setting it up so that Nagios could run it. I'm not
able to find anything out on the web and nagios-user search is timing
out. Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks much

I normally just put it in quotes like so:

check_commandcheck_https_reverse!/cms/enter.cfm!courseworks!error occurred

I'm not familiar with the check_https_reverse command so can't
guarantee this will work for you, but please give it a try and see how
it goes.

[Nagios-users] check_disk solaris problem and solution

2009-03-24 Thread Philip Brown
Odd thing

we've been in the process of upgrading from an ooold set of plugins, to a
new one, on solaris

we have some very large filesystems we want to monitor.

the old 1.3.1 plugin version of check_disk worked fine.

the newer ones did not, at one point.
(I'm dealing with 1.4.13 of the plugins)

The older one calls df. The newer one attempts to use system calls to
figure it out the hard way.

Odd thing is... SOMETIMES, it compiles correctly.
Sometimes, it does not.

I have not yet figured out the magic that makes it compile correctly.
However, when it didnt, I brute-forced the issue a bit, by defining.

CFLAGS=-D_LARGEFILE64_SOURCE=1

and then it seems to work.

Odd thing is that a more recent test compile, showed
  ac_cv_sys_file_offset_bits=64
in config.log, and that resulted in a check_disk that worked correctly on
large files.

NACE is a toolkit that you can use to build your own configuration. It
was creating during the Nagios 2.x days, if you have any problems let
me know.

Once queries were created, it was incredibly low maintenance.

Thanks.

If http://localhost works, why are you trying to go to
http://localhost/nagios?

Assuming that second URL should work, it would be helpful to know what
your Apache configuration looks like, and how Nagios is installed. It's
obvious Apache is running, or you wouldn't get a 404 error. What isn't
so obvious is where you've told it to look for Nagios, and whether
Nagios is actually installed there.

Can you define integrate a bit more? I am using OpenAudit. It is not

Re: [Nagios-users] NRPE vs. check_by_ssh

2009-03-24 Thread Kevin Keane
I think you are comparing apples and oranges here, because in most
situations that I can think of, the decision is dictated by the network
topology. If you are exclusively on a trusted private network,
check_by_ssh really doesn't offer any benefits. Conversely, if your
topology involves the Internet or some other untrusted network (WiFi),
then you wouldn't want NRPE in the first place.

The only exception to the above that I can think of is when it comes to
deciding between using check_by_ssh over an untrusted network, vs. NRPE
through some other kind of tunnel or VPN. But in that case, you'd incur
encryption overhead either way, and the comparison is very different
from the question you asked.

All that said: I don't have any first-hand experience, but I suspect
that the impact of establishing 2200 ssh connections in a five-minute
span (assuming that you are using a five-minute check interval) is
pretty substantial. The main impact actually lies in establishing and
tearing down the connections, key negotiations etc.; the encryption
during the data phase probably has only limited impact because most
checks only transmit a few bytes back and forth.

SSH does much better with longer-duration connections when the keys are
already exchanged. This is even more true if you have a router-based
VPN, because in that case the overhead is offloaded to a different machine.

So if you have the option of sending the checks as NRPE through one or a
few long-term VPNs: you are probably going to be better off. Of course,
in the big picture, your mileage may vary.

Christopher McAtackney wrote:

 Chris
