Re: [nlug] website hosting suggestions please
Howdy! If you choose to switch to static files, GitHub can be an excellent choice. You can also point a custom domain at your site when using GitHub's site publishing features. You could also use a static site generator to go from Markdown (or other template language) -> static files. GitHub has support for at least one static site generator, Jekyll. https://help.github.com/articles/user-organization-and-project-pages/ The publishing features of GitHub are free. Enjoy! AWS' S3 Hosting does not allow server-side scripting, just simple hosting of unprocessed files. And I don't have any great grand expectations, other than I want my email to work. Re: [nlug] website hosting suggestions please
The reason my Hostgator site went down is (a little embarrassing) ... my fault, nothing to do with Hostgator. I do have a backup file of my former site, just thought I might look into other avenues that may give me more flexibility. Andrew mentioned a simple AWS hosted thing at past meetings. What are the issues with HostGator? Do you have a backup of the Joomla data? If so, you can move it to pretty much any Joomla-enabled host. What are your criteria for hosting?
