Re: [NTG-context] Some questions on float combinations

Hans Hagen wrote:

 It all depends on it being floats or not (floatign indeed). One
 option is to package a set of floats in a bTABLE .. eTABLE and put

Well, I actually don't need floats, because each image has a fixed
position. However the problem is to get captions properly formatted and
numbered. Again, in LaTeX it would be easy to output captions
separately from the corresponding images, but I haven't found how to do
that in ConTeXt. That's what causes me to use floats (and pack them
into floatcombinations if necessary).

 anyway ... you have more chance onan answer if you provide small
 examples

My code currently looks like the following:

\defineparagraphs[DoubleL][n=2]

\starttext

\centerline{\rotate[rotation=90]{
  \startDoubleL
\placefigure[force]
  {My first caption}
  {\externalfigure[dummy][width=1in,height=3in]}
  \nextDoubleL
\placefigure[force]
  {My second caption}
  {\externalfigure[dummy][width=1in,height=1in]}
\placefigure[force]
  {My third caption}
  {\externalfigure[dummy][width=1in,height=1in]}
  \stopDoubleL
}}

\stoptext

As I have explained, this works, but it would prefer to use a
floatcombination syntax to describe this type of layout just like I
would use it for two images placed side-by-side. I. e. it would be nice
if ConTeXt supported something like the following:

\startfloatcombination[2*1]
   \placefigure[force]
  {My first caption}
  {\externalfigure[dummy][width=1in,height=3in]}
  \startfloatcombination[1*2]
\placefigure[force]
  {My second caption}
  {\externalfigure[dummy][width=1in,height=1in]}
\placefigure[force]
  {My third caption}
  {\externalfigure[dummy][width=1in,height=1in]}
  \stopfloatcombination
\stopfloatcombination

Another small problem is that combinations and floatcombinations,
unlike single floats, have no 'rotation' parameter, so that I have to
embed them into a rotation command. This seems just a bit inconsistent.

Which one? 32-bit or 64-bit linux (linux or linux-64)?

I failed to automatically compile 32-bit binaries (and I would have to
remember how to switch the compiler and simply didn't care enough at
the time to take the effort + we have problems with weirdly
misbehaving subversion without proper understanding what could go
wrong, so some binary builders weren't even able to submit their
binaries). If that fails it might be due to version mismatch which
means that I need to build the binary first.

64-bit binaries claim to be using beta-0.78.1. If that one fails that
you might need to tell what exactly goes wrong so that others can help
you.

PS: The list of platforms with too old LuaTeX includes PowerPC armel
linux + all flavours of (k)freebsd. The only platforms with the latest
luajittex seem to be x86_64-linux and x86_64-darwin. It might be that
some binary builders weren't even aware of the update.

[NTG-context] Multipage xtables starts at the wrong page

2014-01-07 Thread Marco Pallante
Hello everyone,

I'm using ConTeXt to write a technical manual and I'm facing with some
strange behavior I don't know how to overcome.

I need a multipage table and I'm using the xtables. This is a (stripped
down) version of a part of my document:

\mainlanguage [en]

\setupxtable
  [externaldocs]
  [split=repeat, header=repeat, bodyfont=8pt, foregroundstyle=\ss,
   option=stretch, align=middle, frame=off, bottomframe=on,
   framecolor=elitalblue]
\setupxtable
  [externaldocsheader]
  [background=color,
   backgroundcolor=black, foregroundcolor=white,
   foregroundstyle=\ss\bf]

\starttext

\chapter{Introduction}

\startxtable [externaldocs]
  \startxtablehead
\startxrow [externaldocsheader]
  \startxcell AD No. \stopxcell
  \startxcell Title \stopxcell
  \startxcell Doc No. \stopxcell
  \startxcell Issue \stopxcell
  \startxcell Date \stopxcell
  \startxcell Applicability \stopxcell
\stopxrow
  \stopxtablehead

  \startxtablebody
  \dorecurse{60}{
\startxrow
  \startxcell AD No. \stopxcell
  \startxcell Title \stopxcell
  \startxcell Doc No. \stopxcell
  \startxcell Issue \stopxcell
  \startxcell Date \stopxcell
  \startxcell Applicability \stopxcell
\stopxrow
  }
  \stopxtablebody
\stopxtable

\stoptext

What I get, however, is a table that starts at page 2 and not just after
the chapter head.

If the number of rows is smaller and the table fit the first page, then
it starts at the right place.

What I'm doing wrong?

Thank you very much,

Marco

Thanks, I'll experiment in that direction and say when there are results.

The files like tfm, afm, pfb,... seem to be found alright by mtxrun
--script fonts --reload when they are in the ${HOME}/texmf/fonts/
tree, so I think I can leave them there.

So I should make a sort of copy of mdugm-math.lgf and call it
kpfonts-math.lgf, and put it in
${HOME}/context/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/fonts/.

[Do the same with a copy of type-imp-mathdesign.mkiv, which
contains: \loadfontgoodies[mdugm-math].] Or rather put a typescript
in my document file as explained here:
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Math_fonts, and insert some
\loadfontgoodies[kpfonts-math] in it.

Execute: context --make en. And that should be it.

What is the \s! syntax for, as in \s!Serif?

Yes but the tfm and vf files are only needed for the math fonts.

You can also put the goodies files and the typescript file in the same

 What is the \s! syntax for, as in \s!Serif“?

Commands starting with \s! are used for language independent strings
to save memory, e.g. “\s!Serif” is for TeX only a single token while “Serif”
are 5 tokens. There exist more prefixes (e.g. \c! and \v!) but they are
only important for developers.

Scribus may be helpful here. It can read in a pdf
file (not too long) and output it in a variety of
formats, including of course pdf again. So you
could input your context-produced pdf file and
delete all but the image.

He was using luajittex 0.77.0 which is apparently too old already.

[NTG-context] can not get the quotation marks from the fallback fonts

2014-01-07 Thread 李延瑞
Hi,

i find the quotation marks in those chinese fallback fonts can not work as
before. They always be replaced with the latin fonts. please see the
following example:

\definefontsynonym[pagella][name:texgyrepagellaregular]
\definefontfallback[song][name:adobesongstd][0x00400-0x2FA1F]
\definefontsynonym[fbsong][pagella][fallbacks=song]
\definefont[newsong][fbsong]

\starttext
\newsong 中文的\quotation{引号}。
\stoptext

i have another question, when i make texgyrepagellaregular as the fallback
font for adobesongstd, it can not work. see the following example:

\definefontsynonym[song][name:adobesongstd]
\definefontfallback[pagella][name:texgyrepagellaregular][0x-0x0400]
\definefontsynonym[fbsong][song][fallbacks=pagella]
\definefont[newsong][fbsong]

\starttext
\newsong 夹杂 English 的中文文本
\stoptext

the above English word is still display with adobesongstd but not pagella.

You have to use \definefontfallback[...][...][...][force=yes] .

When you want to use these font setting for your whole document it’s better to
set the fallback for the body font:

\definefallbackfamily [mainface] [serif] [Adobe Song Std] [range:chinese] %
[range:chinese] == [preset=range:chinese]
\definefallbackfamily [mainface] [serif] [Adobe Song Std] [range={201C,201D}]
\definefontfamily [mainface] [serif] [TeX Gyre Pagella]

\setupbodyfont[mainface]

\starttext
中文的\quotation{引号}。
\stoptext
