Re: [NTG-context] ConTeXt, XML, multiple attributes evaluation
Hello Johannes, I consider your first \XMLifequalelse command a bit strange. This command is intented to be used if you want to convert the attribute values into something else (e.g. "yes" into "packed"). If you need the unmodified parameter value, simply use \XMLpar. So e.g.: \startitemize[ \XMLpar{list}{setup}{}, \XMLifequalelse{list}{packed}{yes}{packed}{unpacked} ] Of course "setup" should be a required attribute of (in your DTD), otherwise it would lead to something like \startitemize[,packed] which obviously wouldn't work at all. If it's not the case, I'd use \doifXMLparelse: \doifXMLparelse{list}{setup}{% \startitemize[ \XMLpar{list}{setup}{}, \XMLifequalelse{list}{packed}{yes}{packed}{unpacked} ]% }{% \startitemize[1, \XMLifequalelse{list}{packed}{yes}{packed}{unpacked} ] } -Richard From: Johannes Graumann [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]To: ntg-context@ntg.nlSent: Tue, 29 Nov 2005 05:30:25 +0100Subject: [NTG-context] ConTeXt, XML, multiple attributes evaluationHello again,Another one:I'm trying to expand >\defineXMLenvironment [list]%> {%> \expanded{%> \startitemize%>[%> \XMLifequalelse{list}{packed}{yes}{packed}{unpacked}%>]%> }%> }%> {\stopitemize}which can deal with things like>> > >To something able to deal with multiple attributes (a "setup" statement fornow):>> > >I have tryed multiple incarnations of>\defineXMLenvironment [list]%> {%> \expanded{%> \startitemize%>[%> \XMLifequalelse{list}{setup}{n}{n}{},%> \XMLifequalelse{list}{packed}{yes}{packed}{unpacked}%>]%> }%> }%> {\stopitemize}but this doesn't work ...Can anybody give me any pointers here? Thanks for time and help,Joh-- +--+| Johannes Graumann, Dipl. Hello Henk,I reply to your request only beacause I'm also using the Lucida Bright fonts. At least, you must also have the appropriate .tfm files for your fonts. In addition, I also have some virtual fonts (.vf) that have been created for Lucida fonts for the particular encondings (namely ec). In ConTeXt, you need to write the font definitions, so-called typescripts.I must confess it took me quite much time and testing to understand how typescripts work and make myself a bit familiar with them!If you want, contact me off-list and we can discuss the particular issues.-RichardFrom: Henk Koster [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]To: ntg-context@ntg.nlSent: Thu, 01 Dec 2005 11:20:33 +0100Subject: [NTG-context] LucidaBright fonts...I'm stumpedI've been using teTeX - LaTeX - LucidaBright fonts for many years, but amunable to make these fonts work in ConTeXt. Re: [NTG-context] Chinese
Hello Hans,to be honest: I don't speak Chinese and don't know much about it.A few days ago, I was told that we'll let translate some of our documents (XML) into Chinese and Japanese and I 'll have to typeset them. So I started playing with Chinese in ConTeXt. I've reported the results which other users (e.g. Tobias) have also noticed. In fact, all the sample Simplified Chinese documents I've tested it on were easily convertible to CP936 (GBK) and could be typeset. This doesn't mean that you shall not extend the Unicode support, I only think I will not hardly require it... :-)But yet another question: What about Japanese? I've made only small research so far, but unlike Chinese, there's almost no information about Japanese in TeX. How much of work would be to adjust the current "chinese" ConTeXt module for Japanese? What would you need for it?[Of course, meanwhile I'll investigate some other ways of typesetting Japanese...]Thanks,RichardFrom: Hans Hagen [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]To: mailing list for ConTeXt users [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]Sent: Mon, 12 Dec 2005 16:53:51 +0100Subject: Re: [NTG-context] ChineseRichard Gabriel wrote:> Hi guys,>> I can confirm that the UTF-8 input doesn't work for me too.> If I convert the file info GBK (CP936), it works fine [I suggest to > use the 'iconv' utility for the conversion :-)].>> I tested the UTF-8 output the followin ways:>> 1)> \enableregime[utf]> \usemodule[chinese]>chinese is not yet defined in utf so if you want that, we need to do itnow, since the chinese remapping stuff is rather complex, the best method is to consider a dedicated mechanismquestion: do the unicode tables cover gbk and big 5 well?assuming this, how about making a set of tfm, enc, map files that match the unicode positions (volunteers ...)we can extend the utf handler with a kind of plugin mechanism:\unprotect\def\utfunihashglyph#1% [EMAIL PROTECTED]@EA{\number\utfdiv{#1}}{#1}} % only div once\def\doutfunihashglyph#1#2% div raw {\csname \ifnum#2<\[EMAIL PROTECTED] \strippedcsname\unicodeasciicharacter \else\ifcsname\@@unicommand#1\endcsname \@@unicommand#1% \else\ifcsname\@@univector#1\endcsname \@@univector#1% \else \strippedcsname\unicodeunknowncharacter \fi\fi\fi [EMAIL PROTECTED]@EA{\number\utfmod{#2}}} % only mod once\def\unicodeunknowncharacter#1% {\unknownchar}\let\utfunihash\utfunihashglyph\def\@@unicommand{@@unicommand}\def\defineutfcommand #1 #2% {\setvalue{\@@unicommand#1}##1{#2{#1}{##1}}}so we can define pluig in handlers for e.g. chinese\defineutfcommand 81 {\uchar}(bombs due to missing fonts, so for testing)\def\NotYet#1#2{[#1 #2]}\defineutfcommand 81 {\NotYet}(next comes adapting the chinese files; i can imagine that we redo the big5 and gbk definitions so that they remap to ut8 as common encoding)so .. the question is ... who is going to make the tfm/enc/map filesHans___ntg-context mailing listntg-context@ntg.nlhttp://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context ___ ntg-context mailing list ntg-context@ntg.nl http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context

Re: [NTG-context] Chinese in current ConTeXt
Hi Tobias (and Hans),I've played with this a bit. It seems that the nested group breaks things inside the \installlanguage macro. The following works OK:\c!date={\v!year,\cnyear,\v!month,\v!day,\cnday}...but I can't use the \cnencoding switch... [NTG-context] Index sorting for other languages that English
Hello Hans, after an upgrade I noticed thar the index sorting works even worse than before (tested on Czech, Chinese and Japanese, but probably related to non-ASCII characters in common). With TeXExec 5.4.3, all words beginning with national (accented) characters were put into a separate ("symbols") group and placed before "A". This was not good but more or less acceptable. With TeXExec 6.2.0, words beginning with accented characters are placed under certain unaccented letter. My colleague found out that these words are sorted according the first unaccented letter. This is unacceptable and unusable. We do a "work-around" so we try to avoid indexing words beginning with accented charaters. But it's impossible in many cases.I'd like to ask you to improve the index sorting. Could I help or contribute in some way?Attached is a testing file, which creates 2 indexes from various Czech words (covering the Czech alphabet). The index should be sorted exactly that way as the terms are written in the file. Thanks,Richard test.tex Description: TeX document ___ ntg-context mailing list ntg-context@ntg.nl http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context
Re: [NTG-context] Index sorting for other languages that English
Thanks Hans, it works with my test file, unless I set up:\setupregister[index][expansion=xml]which i need for correct processing of the XML files. If I simply add this command into the testing TeX file (no XML), the Czech sorting stops to work and all accented characters are placed under "A".Regarding the sorting itself (sort-lan.tex): I found the definiton of the sorting quite strange, let's say, incomplete. I'd suggest you to use the extended variant of the \index macro. The index, however, is based on Dutch (mainlanguage). This causes two problems: 1. words with accents, like s\"oz, are not sorted correctly to any standard: S söz kesmek 76 saygı 14 s¸eref 3, 14, 24, 27 2. letters with diacritics, like \c{s} (under which \c{s}eref is to be placed) are not included in the alphabetical listing in the index, which of course follows the Dutch alphabet. [NTG-context] Bug in index references (or featur e?)
Hello Hans and others,I've found a strange behavior of the index references. If there are two (or more) references to the same term on one page, each one in another chapter, there will be two (or more) references to the same page number in the index. The attached sample demonstates it clearly:- If the same term is referred in different chapter ("Term" or "Another term"), then there are multiple references to the same page in the index.- It the term is referred more times within the same chapter ("Yet another term"), then there's only one reference in the Index.I consider this behavior a bit confusing. Maybe it has it's meaning when interaction is used (but it's inconsistent anyway), but it definitely look like an error in printed documents. What do you guess think this? Thanks,Richard test.tex Description: TeX document ___ ntg-context mailing list ntg-context@ntg.nl http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context

Re: [NTG-context] ec encoding and tcaron
Hello Michal, I'm sure the EC encoding contains the 'tcaron' character (see the lm-ec.enc file for example).I have ConTeXt on top of TeXLive 2005.I can find:texmf/fonts/enc/dvips/base/ec.enctexmf/fonts/enc/dvips/lm/ec-lm.enctexmf/fonts/enc/dvips/lm/lm-ec.encI use EC normally for typesetting Czech documents. I want to use new fonts in the ConTeXt to typeset the Czech documents. TeXFont seems to be the best way to prepare metrics. EC encoding seems to be the standard ConTeXt encoding. But it doesn't include tcaron (well, this is true at least for EC.enc on my teTeX 3.0 under the SuSE Linux 10.0 with the latest ConTeXt from May 28). (In the Czech the lower case of Tcaron looks like tqouteright but nowadays most AFM files call it tcaron). Other glyphs may miss as well (I might not notice since I suspect that ConTeXt replaces missing letter with composites, e.g. Ecaron with \v{E}). So, what is the standard way I should use? I can use ec-lm.enc but is it the right way? (Moreover, it seems there is no information for ligatures.) I could try to use il2, but is the right way? And I had some problems with xl2.enc used formerly for il2-encoded fonts. So, what was decided to be the right encoding for the ConTeXt? (Is the answer the same for the Czech typesetters?) And one more question: Does anybody have the enc file that would make the TeXFont to generate metrics for il2-encoded fonts for the use with csplain (the Czech version of plainTeX)? [NTG-context] Hardcoded options in the Ruby scripts
Hello Hans,I'm still wondering why there are certain formats hardcoded in your scripts and how the "make all formats" feature does (not work).See scripts/ruby/base/tex.rb:Lines 131-137:Here are a few languages predefined which texexec "knows". If I want to add a format for another language, I have to add a new line here.Line 339: Here are the "default" TeX formats defined. No problem to consider something as default ;-), but the point is that "texexec --make --all" actually does "make all DEFAULT formats", NOT "make all AVAILABLE formats". :-(Anyway, the main problem I see is altering of a script which comes with the ConTeXt distribution - the changes made into this scripts must be done again and again after each update. My suggestion is:1. To put the format definition into a separate file (like user.rb or so) which won't be owerwritten in any case. [Note: cont-usr.tex is a good analogy to this]2. Re: [NTG-context] Hardcoded options in the Ruby scripts
Hello Hans, thanks for the answer. > (adding a user inferface is more that adding something to > texexec)I understand, but I use the English interface for all languages anyway.Maybe I'm doing something wrong or in a non-standard way...For processing files with ConTeXt, I have a script which does (simplified to the minimum):texmfstart texexec --interface=cont-$1 $2So when I started to experiment with Chinese and Japanese, for example, I naturally wanted the processing to be consistent with other languages. I've simply "cloned" the cont-en.tex format file into cont-cn.tex and cont-ja.tex and defined the default language, default encoding etc. in them. And created new formats. But I had to add these new formats into scripts/ruby/base/tex.rb in order to generate and use them. In case of ConTeXt update, I have to do this change again and again. That's the reason why I've suggested to put these definitons into a separate (user) file.>> 2. I forgot that there are many formats other than cont-*... :-/What does "all patterns" mean? Before altering the tex.rb script, I've tried "texexec --make --all" several times, and it had always rebuilt the 'cont-en', 'cont-nl' and 'mptopdf' formats (maybe also 'metafun'(?); I'm not completely sure...).-Richard From: Hans Hagen [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]To: mailing list for ConTeXt users [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]Sent: Mon, 23 Oct 2006 14:42:05 +0200Subject: Re: [NTG-context] Hardcoded options in the Ruby scriptsRichard Gabriel wrote: > > Lines 131-137: > Here are a few languages predefined which texexec "knows". [NTG-context] XML in ConTeXt & verbatim text
Hi all, I'm back here with the following problem: I'm processing XML files (DocBook DTD) which also may contain the tag with some preformatted text. In a sample TeX file, I've tested the following: \starttyping Value of Var \stoptyping This works and the result is great. So I defined a macro to process the tag from the XML file: \defineXMLenvironment[programlisting]{\starttyping}{\stoptyping} This causes an error while processing. Re: [NTG-context] XML in ConTeXt & verbatim text
Hi Adam, I did so right now (thanks for the hint!). But in that file ther's only solved a case when each line of the verbatim text is placed in a special tag: Dit \is nogal verbatim ! Dit is {nogal} verbatim ! Dit is verbatim ! This is trivial because you can pass the contents of each element as an argument to the \type command ( \defineXMLargument[line]{\type} ) But this solution is unusable e.g. for longer program or configuration file listings, and, mainly, the DocBook DTD doesn't define such tags. I need to process multiline verbatims enclosed in a single tag: Line 1 Line 2 Line 3 --- Of course I have some "dirty" workaround, but the result is really ugly... \defineXMLenvironment[programlisting]{ \bgroup \startpacked \tttf \obeylines\obeyspaces\obeytabs }{ \stoppacked \egroup } The line breaks are processed correctly. But all the tabs and spaces are treated as a single space. It seems the \obeyspaces and \obeytabs command are ignored or they do not work the way I'd expect. This will totally break the indentation and tabulation of the verbatim text... -Richard Adam Lindsay wrote: Richard Gabriel said this at Tue, 14 Dec 2004 16:48:05 +0100: So I defined a macro to process the tag from the XML file: \defineXMLenvironment[programlisting]{\starttyping}{\stoptyping} Richard, Have you taken a look at x-contml to see how it solves this problem with verbatim? adam ___ ntg-context mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context

[NTG-context] Problem with figure placing
Hello ConTeXters, I have the following problem with placing figures into the document: Sometimes, when there are more larger images and fewer text, TeX lets some of the images run out of the page (see the attached screenshot). This hapens in very, very seldom cases - e.g. whole the document contains more than 200 images and this issue occurs on one or two places... For placing images, I'm using the following commands: \page[bigpreference] \placefigure[here][fig-xyz]{Figure caption}{\externalfigure[xyz.png][scale=3000,maxwidth=\textwidth]} The \page[bigpreference] command handles this situation quite well except certain cases (like it's shown in the attachment). In addition, the commands \totalnumber, \topnumber and \bottomnumber are available to set the maximum float count on one page. Which command(s) can I use to place all unprocessed figures immediately? \flushfloats \flushsidefloats Hans - Hans Hagen | PRAGMA ADE Ridderstraat 27 | 8061 GH Hasselt | The Netherlands tel: 038 477 53 69 | fax: 038 477 53 74 | www.pragma-ade.com | www.pragma-pod.nl - ___ ntg-context mailing list ntg-context@ntg.nl http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context ___ ntg-context mailing list ntg-context@ntg.nl http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context
Re: [NTG-context] Problems placing figures II
Hello Hans, I've already tried it, with a very nice result. Thanks once more! -Richard Hans Hagen wrote: Richard Gabriel wrote: Hello Hans, thanks, but my ConTeXt reports "Unknown control sequence". I use TeXLive 2003 (Windows XP) and a ConTeXt distribution downloaded about two moths ago. Browsing the ConTeXt sources, I've found a \doflushfloats macro which seems to do the desired job... Does it really do? probably, just give it a try Hans - Hans Hagen | PRAGMA ADE Ridderstraat 27 | 8061 GH Hasselt | The Netherlands tel: 038 477 53 69 | fax: 038 477 53 74 | www.pragma-ade.com | www.pragma-pod.nl - ___ ntg-context mailing list ntg-context@ntg.nl http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context ___ ntg-context mailing list ntg-context@ntg.nl http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context
[NTG-context] ConTeXt & Fonts
Hello Hans and others, excuse me such a stupid question, but: It there any clear (step by step) description how to add a new font into context? I've already done many googling and "try&fails" but the success was minimal. The typescript definitions in type-enc.tex and type-pre.tex are almost a mystery for me... I hope that there at least a little bit of description on adding fonts... Thanks in advance... -Richard ___ ntg-context mailing list ntg-context@ntg.nl http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context
