[NTG-context] booklet set up
Hello, I'm creating a textbook as a booklet (two A5 per A4), and have difficulties. 1) If I use imposition command \setuparranging, then Luatex doesn't process references. I know, there are workarounds, but I prefer to create A5 pages and then impose them using nice Acrobat plugin. However, I don't know how to make Luatex to process left and right pages differently (for future imposing). If I set "left margin", then it is really left through the document, but I need it to be on the right every second page, and vice versa. How to achieve it? (I tried 'mirrored' option in \setuppapersize, and got funny result) ;) 2) I was always scared by explanation of \showlayout on texshow: "Horizontal: (if singleside then outside is at right and inside is at left) === width => width of text area middle: automatic calculation consider A) params fit: automatic calculation consider A)+B) params dimension: cutspace should be 0 and is calculated according to backspace A) params: (\paperwidth=\backspace+\makeupwidth+\cutspace) backspace => width of inner margin cutspace => width of outer margin (if 0 then = backspace!) "... and so on. It looks like a program, not manual, and I never understood it, despite it explains very important concept, missed on Wiki -- 'fit' and 'middle' options. Can someone throw a light on these? Re: [NTG-context] Verses
Hello, I have used these settings (it prevents verses from splitting, and makes an indent for chorus): \setupinterlinespace[line=1.5em] %(optional, but looks better) \definestartstop [verse] [before=\vbox\bgroup\startlines, after=\stoplines\egroup] \definestartstop [chorus] [before=\startnarrower\startlines, after=\stoplines\stopnarrower] but later (don't remember why) I used the following: \definestartstop [verse] [before=\blank\startlinecorrection\ruledvbox\bgroup\startlines, after=\stoplines\egroup\stoplinecorrection\blank] \definestartstop [chorus] [before=\blank\startnarrower\startlines, after=\stoplines\stopnarrower\blank] \setuplines[before=\nowhitespace,after=\nowhitespace] Usage example: \startverse I see ya blowin' me a kiss It doesn't take a scientist To understand what's going on baby If you see something in my eye Let's not over analyze Don't go too deep with it baby \stopverse \startverse So let it be what it'll be Don't make a fuss and get crazy over you and me Here's what I'll do I'll play loose Run like we have a day with destiny \stopverse I also vote for publishing verse setup (maybe not this exactly) at Wiki. I think that good setup should protect from breaking verses, emphasize choruses (if any), and don't introduce excessive vertical spacing. -- Best regards, Vyatcheslav ___ If your question is of interest to others as well, please add an entry to the Wiki! maillist : ntg-context@ntg.nl / http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context webpage : http://www.pragma-ade.nl / http://tex.aanhet.net archive : https://foundry.supelec.fr/projects/contextrev/ wiki : http://contextgarden.net ___

[NTG-context] indenting of first paragraph in (sub)section
Hello, I' trying to figure out why \setupindenting[first,medium,yes] does not indents the FIRST paragraph of a section or subsection. An example follows. Thanks in advance. \setupbodyfont[lbr,11pt] \setuppapersize[A4] \setuplayout[width=17cm,height=28cm, topspace=1cm, header=1cm, footer=1cm, location=middle] \setupitemize[n,joinedup] \setuppagenumbering[location=] \setupwhitespace[medium] \setupindenting[first,medium,yes] \showframe \starttext \section{INTRODUCTION} \subsection{Rationale} Anyone who has been around the computer industry for a decade or more is well aware of this phenomenon: machines are getting exponentially more powerful per unit cost, yet users do not perceive this improvement in the applications that they purchase. For example, while word processors are clearly faster today than they were 21 years ago, they aren't 16,384 times faster as Moore's Law would suggest. Part of the problem, of course, is that some of the additional processing power has been employed to support new features (such as a bit-mapped display), but a large part of the reason software users aren't seeing an increase in speed is because many of today's programmers don't take the time to write efficient software, or they simply {\it don't know} how to write fast code. \stoptext -- С наилучшими пожеланиями, Vyatcheslav mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]___ ntg-context mailing list ntg-context@ntg.nl http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context

Hello, Ok, now I've started playing with Cyrillic fonts seriously. 1. Antiqua-torunska is really Cyrillic but its typeface far from Times Roman. \usetypescript[antykwa-torunska][t2a] \definetypeface[antw][rm][serif][antykwa-torunska][default][rscale=1,encoding=t2a] \setupbodyfont[antw,12pt] Unfortunatelly, it seems that it is only t2a-ready typescript. But created t2a-adobe-timescyr.pdf test file shows no Cyrillic glyphs (it seems like there are vacant empty spaces from 192 to 255). Also I cannot make use of Russian in my context scripts. I was muddled by Extensis Suitcase which displayed Cyrillic text in a font preview mode (probably, substituted?). The font (tir_.pfb) itself doesn't contain any Cyrillic glyphs, indeed. Thanks a lot for your point. I've abandon the Adobe font and installed Times-Roman from the collection located at at http://freshmeat.net/projects/urw-fonts-cyrillic. Despite the fact that this font DOES contain all Ukrainian-specific glyphs (Ie, I, and Yi; if you never saw them then see http://www.alanwood.net/demos/wgl4.html), They cause errors and are replaced by wrong symbols in the output pdf file. Hello all, I've made some progress with your help. (and esp. Mojca's) Following the guidelines from http://home.salamander.com/~wmcclain/context-help.html, I 've defined the Regular font as \enableregime[cp1251] \loadmapfile [t2a-urw-timescyr.map] \definefontsynonym[NimbusRomanNo9L-Regu][t2a-n021003l][encoding=t2a] \definefont[TimesCyr][NimbusRomanNo9L-Regu at 15pt] \starttext \TimesCyr ... and it works OK unless I need Bold or Italic. One day we might have a ConTeXt > MKII book for those who are afraid of swithing to pdftex2. ConTeXt should be eventually stabilized so that someone can make some use of it. But, there is a way for rapid adopting of new techniques too. My experience of using open-source products (I'm best familiar with Moodle) suggest that there should be overlapping cycles in development: 1. Allocate new version number and start implementing new features. Many things are broken at the moment and the version becomes unusable for production purposes. 2. Stabilize this version and make definite release (number x.x.). Now it can be used for production. 3. Continue resolve bugs in this version AND perform Step 1 IN PARALLEL. Moodle follows this model and I always wandered how smooth it was to migrate between releases. Everything is completely predictable. Please, look at http://download.moodle.org/ to get the idea of their versioning. I think ConTeXt needs similar versioning model badly. Now it has rather naive model (release dates) that doesn't help in deciding about stability at all. -- Best regards, Vyatcheslav Yatskovsky ___ ntg-context mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.ntg.nl/mailman/listinfo/ntg-context

Re: [NTG-context] ntg-context Digest, Vol 36, Issue 34
Hello, A more advanced question. With default settings, ConTeXt is prone to start new page for the itemization that doesn't fit. That is, ... %previous text Compared to the manual drafting, computer-aided drafting has the following advantages: \startitemize[packed] \item Errors and changes can be erased very simply, and without leaving any trace on the drawing. \item Small details can be enlarged to the limit of computer's accuracy, and can thus be comfortably worked on. \item Items that appear many times on the drawing (e.g., electronic com-ponents) need only be drawn once, and then can be rapidly copied as many times as required. \item Drawing can be drawn at exact scale; when the drawing is ready to go onto paper, the computer scales it to fit the page. \item Related items on the drawing can be grouped on layers, which can be activated or deactivated at will for plotting or display. \item Corporate standards are easily imposed by using drawing templates. \stopitemize ... In this excerpt the first paragraph is left alone with much space below it and the list is placed on the next page. How to teach the ConTeXt to be more space-economical?
