I have a problem regarding NT 4.0
My environment is 10/100 Switched network on CISCO
switches.
For some reason I keep loosing network connectivity
to servers.
A PING works fine but not a NET VIEW (System error
53 has occurred. The network path was not
I would honestly check the basics on those server
machines with the problem your describing. Check the cabling to those machines,
and check their NICs. Seems like you might need to replace one or the other
there.

It has a lot of great info. Also, download the fix from Symantec and run
it on your suspected system. If it finds it, it creates a .LOG file of
what it did/didn't do.

That's the problem, the machine that is infected is our file server, web

and working is to unplug the network connections and reboot the system.

I think they more or less do all a decent job. We recently switched from
NAI to Symantec. Because NAI keeps crashing a lot and the prices for an
update were more expensive than getting new Symantec licenses.
I have a semi-sick NT4SP6A server. Below are some perfmon counter
observations. I am seeking input on rebuilding the server to Raid level 1 or
Mirrored disks and changing the stripe set from 16k stripes to either 32 or
64. Please note the server in question is running a D3/PICK NT

i am trying to run forestprep on my controlled that
has the global catalog on it. i am logged in as administrator and it is
saying i dont have permission to modify the schema. i am part of the

The recommended software? I would recommend a virus scanner. :)
This is a question that you will get a lot of different responses on.
Personally, I am no fan of NAI. Norton is OK. But I really prefer Trend
Server Protect. It hasn't let me down yet.

.. I think you need Enterprise admin privileges to do this.
Also, netdiag.exe from the RK or Support tools gives great info
on AD problems.
