No, 255 is right. 255 should map to 1.0
Actually, though, if you've been given hex numbers in the range 0-255, they're
almost certainly not linear but probably in sRGB, so a simple division won't
give you the right colour.

I believe that if you go to System Settings/Network, you can drag the
interfaces in the list to reorder them and the primary one will be the one
at the top of the list. I.e. just drag Ethernet to the top.
