There were many common redpolls in mixed flock of goldfinch and siskins
yesterday even feeding on ground w juncos and WT sparrows. Sporadic reports
over the last week so they are likely hanging around. Best spot seems to be in
trees just at the left turn off, from the paved road (past the RVs)
Pretty dead. At the model airplane field, just four Am. Tree Sparrows and a
Red tail.
At the nature center, just a bunch of House Sparrows and a Chickadee.
No owls to report.
On the cap, a couple more Red tails.
At the train station, a few gulls and a Common Merg.

A quick afternoon trip back to the point yielded light phased rough legged hawk
kiting over landfill.
My first in Westchester in a while. Harrier count was at 4. Also 5 eastern blue
bird and hermit thrush at upper parking lot pines. Still larks and buntings by

Bronx Brendan and I left our usual haunts at Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx
yesterday morning and traveled north to Croton Point Park.
Highlights were several Bald Eagles, both perched and overhead, a Long-eared
Owl, Eastern Meadowlarks and two male Northern Harriers working the former
landfill.

took the opportunity to twice walk the landfill. Highlights were numerous

Eight of us birded Croton Point County Park this morning. There were
pockets of good bird activity in places sheltered from the wind off the
Hudson.
Along the brushy edge between the ballfield parking and the landfill: flock
of 30+ American goldfinches, 5 Fox sparrows together, a Common
Flock of 42 snow buntings in ball field area when you first drive in; kestrel
on post and also a harrier in landfill; and a Great horned owl sitting in the
open just off road near tent camp area

The standing native grasses left unmown this fall on the Croton Point main
landfill are continually to attract and feed a nice show of sparrows.

Good views this morning of the active Cliff Swallow nests on the Rt 9/9A Croton
River bridge. Viewed from the Croton River shoreline within Van Cortlandt
Manor. (The nests are on the upstream, eastern side of the bridge.) A Green

nice highlights including: 330+ Snow Geese on high flyover heading SE at 9:50
am, a Peregrine Falcon bathing in large puddle by ball field before entrance,
large Am. Pipit flock (42 seen today) continuing on landfill,

Tremendous movement underway at Croton Point Park this am of Am Pipits, variety
of Sparrows, three Merlin's, imm Goshawk, and more. Complete list later but

Horned Owl, ~12 Hermit Thrushes, 2 Palm Warblers, 1 Blue-grey Gnatcatcher, 1
Blue-headed Vireo, 1 Meadowlark, Great and Snowy Egrets, 2 Broad
