Just sending out a report for Doug Bloom who called me this morning to let me
know he had what appeared to be two Orinoco Geese with Canadas at Harbor Island
Park in Mamaroneck. They were scared away eventually by a dog walker. They
sure traveled a long way:-) They were not there in the late
Wanted to correct the id of the geese previously reported by me from a second
hand report as Orinoco Geese. Today around 4:15pm I saw them at Harbor Island
Park in Mamaroneck, but to my surprise they were Egyptian Geese not Orinocos, a
male and a female. I got a quick look at them on land
Had my FOS Ospreys yesterday circling over the Trump Plaza in New Rochelle.
There were 3 of them. Also, the two Peregrines were very vocal and active
again flying around and at one point copulating on the building. Looks like
they might be getting ready to nest there or somewhere close.
Had a Common Raven in the parking lot of of the new Hmart across from the TD
bank in Hartsdale on Central Ave. It got chased off by the ubiquitous Fish
Crows and flew north with them in hot pursuit. It was most likely one of the
pair from White Plains. It's amazing how tiny the crows are
I've noticed the peregrine pair on the Trump Plaza in New Rochelle have been
hanging out on one corner of the building where there is a large flat area and
saw one of them walk back from the edge towards the rear of the ledge. Could
be a nest area. We shall see.

Went to look for the raven nest on the bank building crevice on Main in New
Rochelle today that John reported the other day. Found the nest but no birds.
It's in an unusual place for a ravens nest but it sure appears to be one albeit
a small cramped one. Will check this week on a nicer day

The New Rochelle peregrines were noisy again today. They were calling to each
other and at one point flew off slowly next to each other towards the coast.
One also went after a pigeon in a half hardy attack but totally missed it and

Had an albino African Collard-Dove at work today in New Rochelle. It flew low
over the building and landed across the street from 10 Commerce Dr. on the

Finally had a female Ruby-throated Hummingbird back at my feeders two days ago
and every one since. Then just a minute ago had a male at the feeder. I don't
know if the female was the one from last year but hoping it is and that it

Had both Mississippi Kites giving a great display in the previously reported
spot. They mated several times, flew around catching dragonflies sometimes

Still having my Ruby-throated Hummer pair at the feeders though the male left
for several weeks but is back regularly now. He seems to come mostly in the
late evening while she comes anytime during the day light hours. And for the
first time I just had both of them interacting together at the

While waiting to be seated at the Fountain Diner on Central Ave in
Harstdale this morning around 11am I noticed three Monk Parakeets flying west
over me and continued over the trees and disappeared. They were surprisingly
quiet for Monks. I guess they were coming from one of the colonies in

Does anyone know if the Bronx Zoo has any Barnacle Geese in their collection
now? When I worked there in 05 they didn't but haven't been since then so
don't know if they do now. Was wondering because a friend just told me she had
a flock of about 7 there last year and got photos of them. She

I guess the migrants are starting to come finally. I had a Black-billed Cuckoo
calling in the back yard which was my 118 yard bird. Also had the first

On a quick trip with my wife around the NY Botanical Garden today I had the

My wife Nobue and I and my friend Jon Hall went out to Long Island in search of

Since I haven't seen a post on this bird I figured I'd let people know that a
Gyrfalcon was photographed by someone on the Blue Chip Farm next to Shawangunk
Grasslands NWR in Wallkill today. The photos were on Facebook on the NY
Birders page. Don't know anything else about it. Hope I can get

At 1:05pm today I had a Swallow-tailed Kite flying south along the Hudson River
low over the trees and field at the Untermyer Park in Yonkers off Broadway.
It's amazing that after wondering for so long if I would get a kite in NY and
thinking about it yesterday that I would see one today while
I wonder if the two Swallow-tailed Kites in CT heading this way today and the
one I had in Yonkers on the 11th were part of a group of three heading south?

Just saw that the widely ranging Steller's Sea-Eagle has been seen in US
finally in Dighton, MA, on the 9th I believe. Unfortunately it wasn't reported
until today and hasn't been seen since. It was only a matter of time it would
end up back in the US:-) Keep an eye out.

The Newburgh waterfront park Franklin's gull is still there in the water in
front of the treatment plant. Park and go south on trail along water to plant.
In water in front of plant. Entrance to park is off water st.

Just seen at the top of the highest point of Rockwood hall in the large fields
with the trail through it. It was in the area of the old wooden fence
enclosure. Which is surrounded by maples. Check the fields in this area.

Went to see if I could find the Golden Eagle(s) at Ten Mile River Preserve on
Berkshire Rd. in Dover Plains today. After a late start because of the ice
everywhere I found out you can't come from the south on Berkshire since it's
