This is my first post (thanks to Andrew Baksh for posting for me in the
past)- I live in Massapequa and normally bird at the preserve and Jones
Beach West end. I post pics on my blog

I was by the Coast Guard Station around 1pm checking for wintering ducks/
late shorebirds - not much going on with that - saw lots of Brant, (huge
flock flying in), Canada Geese, Gulls and Comorants. (I noticed that the
spit can be hopping one minute and be totally dead later on.)

more: saw ~30 ruddy ducks, 5 hooded mergansers, and around a dozen

yesterday except there were ~10 Black Bellied Plovers and some Dunlin on

Yesterday I went to Massapequa Preserve early in the morning and then again
in the late afternoon...highlights were a Kingfisher, Blue Gray

I saw the Avocet this morning on the East Pond- was feeding and was putting
on a territorial show for a Snowy Egret. Also saw a Western Sandpiper.
Overall bird numbers were on the lower side when I went but still enough
for a great birding experience.

Sorry for the multiple posts - I wanted to get the word out quickly but was
hasty in my post - the ID of Golden Plover (American) was incorrect - was a
Black Bellied, however I have a positive id on the godwits - were actually

At Jones Beach Field 10, I saw 2 Boat Tailed Grackles in the lot- west end
2 lot had a flock of ~200 Snow Buntings touching down. I also saw the
Barrows Goldeneye that Robert reported today- I got a good view of
it flying a little east (still west of Sands Point Preserve). (Thanks

a female House Sparrow with a Junco tail. Also had a Fox Sparrow. Both

Hi Everyone, after striking out missing the Valley Stream warbler this
morning- I headed over to Connetquot St Park where 2 other birders located
one west of the feeders (thanks, sorry didnt catch names). Also seen were
Pine and Yellow Rumped.

After realizing that Jones Beach West End had zero visibility, I went to
Massapequa Preserve starting at Linden Street heading south to the pond

While tending to my gardens at my house by Massapequa Preserve, I saw 2
Turkey Vultures fly over heading south. This is becoming a regular

Still present in reverse j pond with least sandpipers- stands out with that
long tail. Got worried at first since a harrier was around but all good
now.
