Dear OGDers,
An orchid friend will be travelling to Pennsylvania, next month.
She will be staying in Pine Grove (Schuylkill County), from 21 to 24 March.
Are you aware of any orchid-related event occurring at that time in the
region : orchid show, orchid society meeting ?
Any public orchid

Hello All:
I just had Maxillaria buchtienii awarded this weekend and there is some
discussion that buchtienii is actually a synonym of Max. splendens.
I have had one response back that indicates that these are indeed distinct
species, but wanted some more feedback-
Anyone?
Thanks!

Maxillaria buchtienii is a synonym of M. splendens. The type of M.
splendens in the Geneva herbarium is identical to the type of M.
buchtienii. Bennett and Christenson considered them different, but the
plant they illustrated as M. splendens in Icones Orchidacearum
Peruviarum plate 115 is

Viateur,
Are you sure that you have C. glandulosa? So far, all the plants that
I have purchased or seen in the U.S. that were sold under this name
turned out to be Coel. Unchained Melody. The story here is essential
like that of C. mossiae, as briefly iterated by Christenson in the
last

Since AOS bases its taxonomical calls on the World
Checklist of the Monocotyledons kept by Kew, then your
species is indeed Maxilaria splendens and not Maxillaria
buchtienii. ( It seems that in this case the determination
by Kew was made based on the Nomenclatural rule of
priority.)
