Re: [Origami] Creation exercise (boxes and/or lids)
Sy Chen posted yesterday his submission for the creation exercise. Was everyone able to see it through those two URLs? Sy, I'm very curious about the box. Would you please share a video showing you opening it. I love seeing this kind of models in action! Also, I have to ask: what did you draw with the black face of the paper? Is that an Arabian oil lamp with smoke floating from the mouth? Sorry if I'm too off. Thank you for participating! Gerardo gerardo(a)neorigami.com

Hi, everyone, This is my take on the challenge exercise. https://photos.app.goo.gl/E3uVrQmqcEXqPXQk7 If you are not able to see the above picture. Try this one instead: > https://1drv.ms/u/s!AjXhNBWnEbioyg_HJ76uiWMZCxpJ?e=xlLg2A > Folded from single piece duo-color square - brown wrapping paper and black tissue glued together. This package design has been in my wish list for a while. The recent origami box design challenge posted from Gerardo made my wish came true earlier. Happy folding! Sy Chen
Re: [Origami] Creation exercise (boxes and/or lids)
Hi everyone. A new follow-up message about the creation exercise I'm inviting everyone to participate. This is the last week. The invitation is to create an original box and/or lid. In an previous message I had mentioned fellow origamists that enjoy creating figurative models could create a box (or lid) that includes a subject, like Michael Shannon's "Ganesha Box" (with Ganesha's head on each side). In a second message, I said that creators that prefer folding modular models could create a modular box, like for example Chrissy's "Modular Origami Box (Tall Version)" and "Pinwheel Flower Lid". Now, I know there are also origamists here on the list that enjoy creating and folding tessellations, fractals, and/or corrugations. You could also create an original box, or maybe lid, that includes this type of origami! As an example, here is a fold I made of "Hydrangea Box" created by Shuzo Fujimoto: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Zs6IYb3PXoiD8NS-K3cQG0iIk5os29CIJVOYpoebBHYbkGb_2tka4bb4kZQq_DZvT_BtzxxmLKOH_vF9CSR48hajWMRmPGQD3jzzwNDa1NfKqVQ9wsU6sp61vFuwQKckMyh1vBjd1g=w2400 Jorge Jaramillo loves this type of origami. Right Jorge? Can you create a box and/or lid with a tessellation, fractal or corrugation? One more thing; I wanted to also share with you my fold of Anna Kastlunger's "Cat Lid".It's an amazing example of a figurative model/lid! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/z2F7tC6zvmEL0dA28TMvIQP_fT6yo0hUpGMT3J9OxZ8TqaU2wp0204hTaUxo0gDYJlUNL78mPcEEIpC4mhlkJED-idjzZ7DQYnYSHy56o5vCwHjyGg_MZ49odSEpE699IwyhrG4YKw=w2400 So, just one week left for this activity : )
Re: [Origami] Creation exercise (boxes and/or lids)
On July 24th I proposed that fellow origamists on the list that enjoy creating figurative models, like animals, people, and objects, could create a box and/or lid with a figurative model included and I showed Michael Shannon's "Ganesha Box" as just one example. Now, I know there are also other fellow origamists here that prefer creating modular models. Then why not design an original modular box for this creation excercise ; ) Here's an example. I folded "Modular Origami Box (Tall Version)" and "Pinwheel Flower Lid" both created by Chrissy from Paper Kawaii. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/Sq1mB9Nf6sAtOpEqKlqAntiib7uc3lMnMYPOdOibpjJ6g7vQ8kaORHpLg-b-7VlRos-kIl3qMBiv-VmQV61kbEqg_d1DA7-8U8e_4Fnhs_rZRLqAUnDn33Uc1xfaXt1HBTZSj_3Oog=w2400 https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/QYn7Zg2jDqj9khm0MTy9-NUr5hV-Q50p4glDQYEnUZcQfQ60ecsSAko6R5PMHYtpkSp5K-3WKX6_pqA-ns60JwhBt4rYFa8dM0xzHfrdzagYsIWsJqfcgUit6dHv-4gwMB8spJQBSg=w2400 If I'm not wrong Meenakshi and Ekaterina both enjoy working with modulars. What kind of boxes could you create? =D Don't wait till the last minute. Create and share some pictures soon! Gerardo gerardo(a)neorigami.com
Re: [Origami] Creation exercise (boxes and/or lids)
This is a follow-up message to the one I sent about a week ago. Last year some of us had fun creating (designing) ping pong launchers folded from A4 copy paper. Remember? Well, now I'm inviting everyone to create a totally new origami box and/or lid : ) Now, I know many of you prefer creating figurative models of animals, people, objects, etc. Why not then create a box, or maybe a lid, that includes a figurative model? Huh? =D As an example, here's a fold I made of Michael Shannon's "Ganesha Box": https://scontent.fbaq2-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/67397865_2865549043461055_8584642303233097728_o.jpg?_nc_cat=101&_nc_oc=AQlWtTNBBzellVEl3g64jF8cpm_NhEe91EEEobrYG5NQ41JwpPUXw2DphojEPQ27irc&_nc_ht=scontent.fbaq2-2.fna=8fc0da8be9ae981e4690d101a502bec5=5DB3187D Michael created this box years ago, but just like him you could also create a figurative/box model for the creation exercise on the mailing list! Hadi recently shared diagrams for his car model. Hadi, what can you come up with for this activity? Remember, the dead line is August 31st and you can check out all the details of the activity in my message from July 15. If you have any questions, you can send them through the list or in private to my email address gerardo(a)neorigami.com Can't wait to see the first pictures! Gerardo gerardo(a)neorigami.com
[Origami] Creation exercise (boxes and/or lids)
Based on the words by Fishgoth: here's an idea for a new type of thread. We have many innovative folders and designers on this mailing list, who specialize in different techniques and levels of complexity. I thought it would be fun to introduce a creation exercise that we can share. The topic is boxes and/or lids. The idea is that you create an original design of an origami box, a box with a lid, or just a lid for one of the traditional box models (it has to be for a traditional box), and you share it right here through the list. Let's place as deadline for the exercise: August 31st, so you can start sharing your entries from July 16th up to the dead line. What's allowed: -Any number of sheets -Squares, other rectangles, regular polygons, circles, and straight isosceles triangles -Very little cutting -Very little gluing -More than one model per origamist What isn’t allowed -Variations of nontraditional models (Taking someone else’s model as base for yours). The entry must include -Your name or pseudonym -Name of the model -Links to one or more pictures of the model -Details of the model: Type of material? Number of sheets? Shape of each sheet? Size of each one and of the finished model? Cuts? Glue? This will be just for fun and for creating a model we're happy with. At the end of the challenge I will compile all the models with their respective participants and share them through the list. Let me know if you have any questions. Have fun creating ; ) Gerardo gerardo(a)neorigami.com
