A simpler way would be to use maperitive to create a .jpg or do a screen
capture and edit the image just ensuring the osm street map logo is on.
It's normally very simple to add a .jpg to a web site.
Then trace the walk(s) in a different colour. If they have waypoints on
the map document them so

I thank you for underlining Simon Poole's suggestion. I have experimented
with uMap somewhat, already. I have posted on the uMap mailing list asking
about the addition of sequential numerical markers that relate to the walk
instructions and how to attach .urls to other markers such as
anyone offer
something suitable for this requirement that I can pass on?

I'd suggest uMap https://umap.openstreetmap.co/en/ . That will allow
you to draw routes over existing map tiles, which
