Hi Sue:
I really don't know if what i am going to say is
true, it is just my perception. Here goes: it seems to me that as some women
demanded that intrusions and interventions in childbirth be decreased (shaves,
enemas, drugs, episiotomies, IOL, ARM, etc..) and so demanded choice in

Last nite (I was not owrking in Labour ward) a

I do not feel this is a reflection on anyone but

I posted a query last year re. genital herpes in

give me ANY information or tell me of their experiences with women who have
active lesions when in labour.

sad

Cath,
Have a great time up there. Did several placements in 1997/98 up there and
l-o-v-e-d it!! Couldn't rave about it enough. Even though other two other
regional hospitals are within1.5 hours of us, chose to go up to Mildura

I have seen this on a few websites I read daily, as well as here, and i thought it was
beautiful, certainly made me cry. I keep wanting to go back and watch it again, but
each time I am surprised a new by how still the mother seems to be. You can see how

Yes Jo, despite loving the 'story', the music, the look of wonderment on the
childrens' faces etc, after noticing the mum on the bed in a couple of
photos, I kept thinking, why isn't she up moving around?!
But how well done was it?! It's truly one of the most beautiful things I've
seen in a long
I once heard an OB say that there were more risks to the mother
from the CS than to the baby from the herpes with the older
infections. Might be worth pursuing.

At the risk of being flamed, moving around is not the best for
all. I have recently cared for a woman with definite ideas for
an active birth (unfortunately I did not know her prior) and
when she started contracting well she was very active. Bath, all
fours, standing, walking all night. Declined
Dear Ozmid listers!!
If you want the option of 1-2-1 midwifery for at
least some women and midwives where you live ?
Please can you all become political for the next
national (and state) election?
For example;

of Action near you or start
Yes it was beautiful, such a pain that my sound card has gone dead.
I will invoke a little bit of ancient history and personal ramblings, SORRY
in advance. When I had my 2nd baby almost 30 years ago, in the GOOD OLD
DAYS, ha, I declined the interventions which I had been trained with in
thank you for the feedback on mildura, especially to jan, leanne , tracy

i hope to have some good stories to share

Hey! I was touched by the clip as well but the gnawing thought of why is
she reclining on a bed??!! kept creeping in
It reminded me of the video of the 'natural birth' I was shown during an
ante natal class with a woman sitting up in bed pushing bubby out and the
midwife actually said to us
I guess this is what I was trying to say, the photos (and the 3 hr timeframe) really
did seem to show that she was doing just what she needed. But I was surprised, I
couldn't really relate, and this probably tells me more about myself than anything
else but I was curious if anyone else
No flames here!
I have had a homebirth ( labour) on the bed, some sitting cross elgged on
the floor!
Effective labour is about what the woman needs and some are fine on a bed
or other hard surface though not common when encouraged and comfortable to
do what they want!!

I have met a woman who wishes to have a homebirth
in Bridgetown, WA. Her EDB is 22/8/04 and she has been in contact with the
Fremantle group but hasn't heard anything backas yet. Does anyone have any
contacts. I can be contacted off the list at [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Thanks, Cath Nolan,
Perhaps it was the position that this woman felt
most comfortable in. It certainly seems that she looked comfortable and secure
in her place. I loved that clip for what it was.
Cath.
Hi Nicole:
I could not add anything to the information
obtained on the sites recommended by both Sally and Jane. I do think it is
worthy to note that doctors in the USA were reluctant to change their
recommendations for C/s delivery for women with recurrent herpes with lesions in
labour.
Hi, this is an area that is lacking in homebirth midwives at the
moment. It used to be part of my rural practice but they haven't had a
midwife there for ages. Pet Malavasi the Homebirth Choice group in
the South west might be able to help. Try [EMAIL PROTECTED]for
information. MM

Ditto! Some (a very few)women take to their bed at home . And mostly this
is what they need to do.

As others have said, my experience has been that most women are active at
sometime and then settle down into a kneeling position, very rarely lying for
more that a few minutes at a time. However, I have had several women feel
much better lying down for most of the labour. I have seen this
I gave birth in the family bed too... funny really as I have midwifed
many women in water and on land in many different positions but this is
what suited me at the time.. it was wonderful to watch him uncurl from
within my body... he just turned 8 and the memory of his birth still

I have had a number of women over the years with active lesions in
pregnancy (Not 1st infection aquired in preg). We have done all the things
thought necessary both natural and medical to make sure there was not an
active lesion in labour. The therapies must have worked as none of them

I found this in my Herpes file, from a previous ozmid discussion."
Bergamot is recommended as it is anti viral and especially suited to
Herpes also it is a lovely uplifting oil to use anyway," An
aromatherapist would have more information about its use.

Try the Australian Herpes Management web site. My
understanding is that if its not a primary in pregnancy then the viral load is
lower for subsequent outbreaks and a vaginal delivery should be fine. If a
primary occurs during pregnancy then more of a risk.
