Pentax has found that the market will buy Chinese goods because they are cheap.
To go the elegant and beautiful tactile route would put them in the same league
as Leica, with similar prices, but no reputation in that

Recently I bought an ist D (as a replacement for my faulty ist DS) to
use as a backup camera. It came with Firmware 1.11 but as Firmware 1.12
is the latest I thought I might as well have it even though it adds
nothing that I need.

Did you ever get the firmware? It just worked for me on a Windows box
and I'm able to download the MAC version as well. Let me know if you
