Hi Marnie Great composition - 5-10 minutes well spent! The conversion does seem to lack a bit of tonal range but I'm not sure how PS Elements carries out the conversion and what options it provides. There's an excellent article on BW conversions here that you might like to look at.

It's a bit distracting not only because it's there but because there are bright and dark elements at odd angles in it. I'd do some rendering work to reduce its visibility by evening out the tonal distribution and softening its impact on the photo, or by evening it out and accentuating it
