I'll confess, 'tis I.
I haven't gone anyplace, just mostly lurking. Busy life right now.
Actually, that is in part because I have been going lots of places.
Most recent adventure trip was Bulgaria in early June. Michigan a few
times, Oklahoma, Raleigh N.C. this past weekend.
Back on topic,

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
I ended up taking the 28-105, But unfortunately I didn't have either
the time or the opportunity to take it out of my bag.
It was an interesting trip, and I have my memories of the sights. And
that's good enought for me.
The best part was the flight home.
I am commuting back and forth to D.C. this fall, a 2.5 hour flight.
Hassles on both ends between screening/searching of luggage at
departure, long waits for checked baggage on arrival. So I have tried
to minimize my to-and-from load. (Partially by stashing one suitcase
with most of my clothes

For this occasion, if I had to go with just one, I would have chosen
the 16-45. Once I decided to bring a 2nd lens, it was just as easy to
bring the 3rd.

G'day All,
I'm going up north tomorrow (Dampier) for work. I'm only up there for
the day (carry on bag only) and a couple of hours work to do. So when
I'm done my times pretty much my own until the flight back.
That being the case I thought I might take a light kit (ie D + 1
lens) up with me

I would take the zoom and the 31/1.8. My light kit depends on what I'm going to
be doing. If I know I'm going to want to shoot indoors, I'll take the FA 35/2
and maybe the DA 12-24. If I'm gong to be shooting outdoors, I'll usually take
the DA 16-45 and the DA 50-200.

My rule of thumb is, when in doubt of what you'll shoot, always take a
fast lens.
I could count on the fingers of one hand the times I've not taken a
50/1.4 with me.
All my other lenses are f2.8 or slower, though.

I'd agree with Lon here.
Personally I have a very small photo bag that
First pick would be the FA 31/1.8. Second would be the same + the zoom.

If you mean the macro, take that. You can find macro opportunities
everywhere.
My light kit would be the macro lens, an LX and probably the 35/3.5.
If I was shooting slides (highly likely) then I'd probably take the
