I cannot seem to find any solid source for that now, and in particular, I don't remember how many weeks that lasts. I think that it is something different. Consider yourself being a dad of 10 days old baby. A guy comes over and starts flashing your baby. Now, you want to politely tell them to stop that because you think and feel that your baby is uncomfortable. So you invent this grown-up argument that flash is harmful. I do think that a flash discharge too close from one's face (regardless their age) is generally a thing to be avoided. I also do think that when one is photographing someone else, one should be aware of their subject comfort. Just my cents. I've enjoyed your series very much and haven't commented because I am on such a low rung of experience and also can't find the time to look at and comment on even a fraction of the emails that pass through the list. --- Sam -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.

OT (non-Pentax) PESO: Mississippi Headwaters
Those of you here in the USA might know of the issues we're having with the budget in Minnesota. The entire government is shut down because there is no consensus between the governor and the legislature about how to balance said budget. Downside: Pain in the rear for a LOT of people (to put it mildly) Upside: When you bike into a (closed) State Park, you have the place to yourselves. My wife and I biked up to the Mississippi River headwaters - ostensibly the headwaters, although there are streams which feed this lake as well so ... who knows. Normally this place is PACKED with people who all want to walk across the stepping stones so they can say I walked across the Mississippi!. On Wednesday last, for at least 5 minutes or so, we had the entire place to ourselves. http://charles.robinsontwins.org/photos/2011/summer_vacation/content/IMG_0071_large.html (Taken with my iPhone). Re: PESO first captures with my new K5
Thanks everyone, frank: the birds were chained to a sitting pole. I only had to sit on the ground, wait and shoot. The 55-300 isn,t perfect the corners are not the best at any aperture and you really need to set the camera to MTF program line. Wide open the 55-300 is nothing special at the mtf apertures it's amazingly good. Combined with high iso and good SR it's a steal for the money. About hot pixels. Yes lightroom removes them but not all from long exposures. I disabled long exposure noise reduction which results in a second exposure with the shutter closed. It also doesn't show the cleanup stage between printing and use. But 3D printing is real, and can be done at hobbyist prices. There were several booths displaying 3D models at this year's Maker Faire. The hobbyist units generally work with a softer plastic, so they're more suited to making keychains or ornaments rather than usable tools, and most only work in monochrome. But I have to admit I was tempted by the booth that would sell you a do-it-yourself 3D printer (ready-built, or as a kit). http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=13679012size=md (K7, FA 24-90) Rick that's a great shot, Rick. Loads of atmosphere. Very American. Agreed, as long as by American you mean the hemisphere (particularly the Northern part) and not just the USA. Reminds me so much of summers spend at cottages in Quebec and Ontario when I was younger. Terrific, nostalgic shot, Rick! cheers, frank Oh no! It's political correctness gone mad. I really meant USAian, in that I associate that sort of thing with the USA. Thanks, everyone! Bob, somewhere I have a similar pic taken in Faringdon in 1995--though without a lake in the background, of course. So, I doubt it's American, or even North American--it's probably wherever boys, swings, and warm summer days come together. Rick http://photo.net/photos/RickW Warm summer days? You must be mistaken, Rick. Besides, Health Safety would never allow it over here. And all the kids are indoors playing with their Xboxes. RE: OT x100 Impressions at TOP...
The headline on the post is that it's a review, but if you're expecting a full review not so much. I've never actually seen a x100, but based on the reviews I've read and the specifications this guy's take mirrors my feelings on the camera. http://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/2011/0 7/fuji-finepix-x100-review.html that's a very good and accurate review. RE: OT (non-Pentax) PESO: Mississippi Headwaters
It's been more than a year since Belgium had a government, and they seem to be better off that way. Perhaps you could apply to become a Walloon province, or Flemish. B Those of you here in the USA might know of the issues we're having with the budget in Minnesota. On Wednesday last, for at least 5 minutes or so, we had the entire place to ourselves. http://charles.robinsontwins.org/photos/2011/summer_vacation/content/IM G_0071_large.html (Taken with my iPhone). I must say I've been quite pleased with the photo quality from my new iPhone4. Especially when you bring the images into Lightroom to give them a little tweaking, these come out great. Re: FW: Amateur photographer assaulted in Greenwich Market
Excellent statement, Bob. People have become much touchier. And curiously, they seem to be touchier as the camera gets bigger. No one seems to mind when I pull out the iPod Touch and take a photo (they think it's an iPhone), some look at me funny when I do the same thing with the GXR, but alarm bells can go off when I point the E-5. I've only had one person get a little aggressive this year, however, and that was a grandmother seeing me photographing a child *near* her grandchildren. The parents of the child I was photographing were standing right there and I'd already made eye contact with them (and subsequently chatted with them after I made a couple of photographs), but this busy-body felt that she had to intervene in my violation of someone else's child's privacy. What da ... ? It's a sad thing. But I will continue my work to the best of my ability. On Sun, Jul 10, 2011 at 10:17 AM, Bob W p...@web-options.com wrote: I had a bit of a to-do earlier today. It really made my blood boil, so I've sent the letter below to the manager of the market, cc:ed to the local paper and the British Journal of Photography. I won't be pushed around (literally!) by people, especially self-righteous busybodies. I'll let you know the outcome, if there is one. And I'll post the offending photograph later. Grumpy Dear Sir or Madam, Earlier today (10 July 2011) one of your stallholders, who identified himself as a photographer, assaulted me while I was taking photographs in Greenwich Market. The incident began when he took hold of my arm and demanded to know if I had asked permission of the person whose photograph I'd just taken. I told him that I don't need permission to take photographs in public places. He then claimed that he could arrest me, so I invited him to do so. He took my arm again, pulling vigorously to try and move me along. I told him to take his hands of me, and that continuing to detain me was itself assault. Despite this, he held on to me until I freed myself. After an exchange of words we parted company and I went about my lawful activity. This is not the first time that a stallholder has tried to stop me taking pictures, although it is the first time that one of them has laid hands on me. Please would you make clear to all of your stallholders that photography in public places is a legal activity. For the avoidance of doubt, here is the link to a page about it on the Metropolitan Police website: http://www.met.police.uk/about/photography.htm. Please also ask your stallholders to acquaint themselves with the law as it applies to so-called citizen's arrest. In short, any attempt to stop someone going about their lawful activities is itself illegal and may be assault. If this happens to me again in Greenwich Market I will press charges. This is not just a matter of law, it is also a matter of commercial good sense for the stallholders. The incident today caused a scene. Greenwich Market is a significant attractor of tourists and income to the borough, to Greenwich Market and to the traders. Tourists and locals alike enjoy taking photographs. If your stallholders take it upon themselves to try and stop people taking photographs, then both tourists locals will stop coming, and we will all be worse off for it. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions. -- Godfrey godfreydigiorgi.posterous.com -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
Re: newborns and flash
When I visited England in the mid '70's I had several Pub Hamburgers. the best wasn't as good as a McDonald's Burger, the worst was actually made of /Ham/, (kind of gristly if I recall but so was the beef, and it takes talent to make the gristle stand out in ground meat). I haven't been to England since, but I certainly hope that someone taught them how to make a good burger, so they could put some distinctly English spin on them, other than disappointing, Trying them out became kind of a game, a sad, bitter, miserable game. Of course everywhere I went, people would offer me a beer and because I was an American, give me Hull's Export, kind of like offering a visiting Australian Fosters On 7/11/2011 11:02 AM, Matthew Hunt wrote: On Mon, Jul 11, 2011 at 2:37 AM, Cottycotty...@mac.com wrote: On 11/7/11, Doug Brewer, discombobulated, unleashed: I always thought it was a load of bollocks.
