First, Lightroom 6 will be the final standalone version of Lightroom.
There will be a Lightroom 6.3 update that will provide Nikon D850
support (which is here now for Lightroom Classic CC, Lightroom CC, and
Photoshop CC), but that's all that we can expect. There will be no
further updates after this year to Lightroom 6. While Lightroom 6 will
still be available for an unspecified amount of time, going forward,
there will simply be two new subscription-only desktop versions:
Lightroom Classic CC and Lightroom CC.

The one I'm looking at is an earlier version (non-DG). That said,
though, I went deep into the bowels of google and found a couple of
reviews for the first and second generation versions...and they came
out smelling like a rose. So, I'm meeting the seller again on Monday to
test it (if he doesn't sell it to someone else in the meantime). If it
passes the Purple Fringe Test then I expect I'll buy it.

I expect that a lens hood would fix the flare. The seller thinks he has
one but he can't find it.

Those Sigmas are monsters. I also bought this gargantuan 100-300/4 off
of him. When mounted on my D2Xs the combination is almost 6.5lbs. I
don't think I'll be taking that combo on any long hikes...

I knew a fellow Ford engineer with a 68 350 that was supercharged, although
he wasn't the original owner he believed the supercharger was dealer

By the 67-68 model years Shelby's lost the kick ass performance that was
part of the original 65-66 350's makeup.
I was the original owner of a low serial number 66 350 that unfortunately
was stolen and dismantled after only 6 months of ownership.

30 years ago I looked for an original 66 350 and quickly gave up after
investigating several productions Mustangs that had been made to look like

Thanks Ken. I m not happy with the editing on this one, but that's the

cramped parking lot and managed to control the background with the limited
FOV and DOF of the DF A 150-450. Added some high angle shots, and I was

Re: Way to go Paul !

2017-10-20 Thread Igor PDML-StR

That's what I consider a very well done story!
The suspense and the sound evidence are both interesting and compelling.
I enjoyed both the text and the photos.

My only concern (and I don't know if that's the editor's deed) is that a
few photos have just a sliver of the car cropped off. To me, it is akin to
a severed finger/limb (in a photo). My eye wants a bit more loose crop on
those (#1 in the first group of 4; # 1,6,8, and even #5 - in the group of
8). And the aspect ratio of those photos is a bit odd.

But, I discovered (by an accident), that clicking on one of those images
opens a photo-viewing frame that shows those photos in full, and that's a
much more pleasing way to see them!

Thanks, Ken, for posting it here, and accolades to Paul on the great work!

Re: K-1 grumbles

2017-10-20 Thread Rob Studdert
The buffer issue is partly why I bought a D750 instead of a K1,
there's plenty to love about the K1 but AF and buffer depth aren't on
the list.

The D750 has a buffer depth count-back that lest you know as you're
shooting how many shots you have left in the buffer, not that it's
really a problem as it clears so fast. But the point is the Nikon
recognises the buffer clearing to be an important aspect of camera
performance so much so that they built an indicator so you always know
here you are rather than being literally left in the dark.

The D750 isn't as capable of achieving AF lock in really low light but
it's so good in other ways that I'll forgive it.

In many many ways the K-1 is an amazing camera. If all I did was
portraits, landscapes and still lifes it would be damn near unbeatable,
 especially for the price.

However, for action photography, it can really suck donkey balls. The
focusing is a huge improvement over the K-3ii, but the focus points don't
cover nearly enough of the screen, especially if you want to place critical
compositional elements at the "third points". Despite the improvements over
the K-3, focus speed is still way too slow, especially compared to when
 I've
 shot a friend's Nikon 810.

My biggest gripe is the bus speed. Did they really think that people
would buy a full frame camera and always shoot JPEGs? I was photographing
dance competitions this weekend. Things happen fast, unpredictably, and
often in rapid succession, particularly when there is more than one couple
dancing at a time. After about a minute or two the buffer will fill up, and
then take something like five minutes to empty. Once it fills up, it takes
something like 30 seconds before it's ready to shoot again, and I have no
idea of whether there's room in the buffer or not. I just have to press the
shutter and wonder whether it's not locking focus, or just still emptying
 the buffer.

Gah! Every time I try to shoot action, I'm tempted to switch to Nikon.
 Unfortunately, there's about 15,000 reasons why I can't.
