Haven't posted a sodding thing in ages! Saw US comic Rich Hall the other night. Walking back to the car, saw this couple in the street. As I was walking past the Fuji X10 was coming out of my pocket, lens cap off, always kept on Theriaultian hi ISO hi contrast setting, held camera behind me as I walked, they were now behind me, didn't look back and fired one shot. It'll do. And yes in case you are wondering this camera has orbs! Sadly not - if I am on a day when I am contracted to ITV News then technically any content I shoot (inc stills) during that period has a copyright belonging to ITV. In practice if I were to stop and grab a shot of something in my travels that I used, say, in one of my corporate productions during an ITV shift, well nobody is any wiser. If i were to sell images of the bus on fire elsewhere, because it was a unique event and there was nobody else around, it would be hard to defend! The remuneration I get from ITV makes it a moot point anyway, so am not bothered about 40 quid from a local rag. I wouldn't take a DSLR to a wedding ceremony anymore. Then again I wouldn't take a DSLR to most places now for anything. If I did go to a wedding, I'd take my X10 which has become my go anywhere/ do anything camera. Its only weakness is at the long end of the bottle but for everything else (including fill in flash) it's continually astonishing me. The macro facility is simply superb. That said it's effectively a point and shoot and so I work within those limits - limits I wanted. If I did go to a wedding it would be the perfect companion for me. Big cameras mean big attention. The X10 is perfect for candids and I use it like that all the time. The viewfinder is very useful, but for covert shooting the rear LCD works well. Stef wanted to watch 'Jaws' which we have in DVD. Absolutely brilliant film as I'm sure you will agree - the best storytelling by a Master. In the scene where they think they've caught the killer shark, the newspaper photographer is snapping the beast with proud captors on the dock, and even though in a wide shot, I'm sure it's a Honeywell Pentax. I have poled around the browser to see what i can do to trouble shoot firefox, but nothing seems to pop up at me,. Dave, when you click on a pdf link in Safari, it should open the page in Safari. Instead of clicking on the link, try 'Control' clicking (that is, hold down the 'ctrl' key while clicking on the link - then see a small drop down box appear - one of the options should be 'download file' or similar. This will save the file to your desktop where you can view it at your leisure. I use Adobe Reader and don't have a problem with it - in fact I find it displays PDFs better than Safari. I use my Fuji X10 in black and white only mode quite often. Simples: I shoot high quality jpegs on a couple of custom settings (C1 and C2) with C1 high ISO harsh highlights, high noise, contrasty. Perfect Knarf territory. C2 is low ISO and noise, landscapes etc. Shooting the jpegs means I don't have a choice - concentrates the mind and is just like having black and white film in the camera. I'm Alban Bernard, I'm French and a pentaxian since my father offered me his MX and a couple of lenses on one of my early christmas (Pentax 50mm f/1.7 and a Sigma 28mm f/2.8 Macro as a bonus). Shooting films were a bit expensive for me at that time and so I didn't use them as I would have liked to. My father died in 2005, then I decided to give photography a more serious try. Later, I purchased my k200d, thanks to the pentax K mount, I was happy to reuse my father lenses in a digitally upgraded set. I went to the PDML in 2009 to learn a lot. Good catch! I got the inspiration and the good mood from this list even if the traffic rate prevented me from reading all the good post. In a certain way, reading it helped me not to be too gear-addicted. The two dogs certainly found it exciting. It's a fun little toy but the battery only lasts about 5 mins before needing a recharge. Same here. There are a few guys over here that specialize in them, but the operative word is 'specialize'. It's not something you can just pick up and offer as a service along with everything else, there just aren't enough hours in the day. I specialize in news coverage. You couldn't ask a natural history cameraman to do a news shift, just wouldn't happen - he'd be completely lost - and vice versa. There isn't any such thing as an all-round camera operator who can work with every aspect. That said, I do employ a few bits and bobs now and again to get me an edge if I can.
