Just an update. I had ordered an Apacer CP200 portable CD burner
online, but it's not going to get here on time :-( I could not find a
local supplier that would sell for the price I wanted to pay.
I've ended up cancelling the order and back to buying more SD cards.

My apologies if this one has been discussed to any degree before, but
As mentioned before, I'm getting ready for a trip to Newfoundland in
the next couple of weeks. This will be my first trip with the DS, and
it got me thinking.
All my previous trips have had a slide-based photography based.

I use one of those Portable Hard Discs which are able to download
directly from CF to the HD using their internal battery.
One example is the Xdrive pro (IIRC)...

digital camera when you cannot shoot freely because of CF space?
AP is reporting a minor incident and evacuated three tube stations and
a bus stop.

It all depends how much photography you intend to be doing. A 1G card
will hold about 97 PEF files on average, or about 450 JPEG *** files.
If you have two 512M cards and are content with JPEG ***, you'll be

I was in Newfoundland for two weeks two years ago. I had my laptop
with me, however. I'm not sure I would have wanted to be relying on
stores for my storage. There aren't a whole lot of them, and it's a
big place! I just remember being amazed at how built up Cape Breton
had gotten in just two
