Re: testing..
So you guys think the test worked... alas, there is an odd annoyance that attributed at first to communications only invloving email from Dan when he sent mail using both PDML and my email address. turns out not so. He just happened to be the first person who replied to me on list when the problem started. I have not updated to the latest Thunderbird version (yet) so I guess that could be causing ths oddity... that is , abug that needed fixing. I get an ! symbol on the bottom of the mail in bright yellow that says "A unique identity matching the From address was not found. The Message will be sent using the current From field and the settings from identity ann sanfedele " In otherwords, right now, although my table of contents has the name of the PDML who responded to me , once I open it, said person disappears from the "FROM" and is replaced by mine. I get all the mail, but the little box to click reply or reply list or reply all does not appear when I open any PDML mail written recently - I am just typing above what came in.. ... and the hot links in the incoming PDML mail don't work.. anyone know what could be causing this? ann Got ya here, Ann. Re: Testing the weather sealing
Yep, I had figured out that expression, but it took me some time before started thinking about non-literal meaning... :) The curious fact is that in [at least] a few East-European languages, the head can be called (very informally) a cauldron or teakettle. Also, people can talk about something cooking or boiling in it, describing the process or ability of thinking. E.g. "The ball hit him on his teakettle". "His cauldron is cooking very well." So, I suspect the original of the phrase you used might actually stem from a similar usage. (The Stackexchange crowd wrote that the etimology is unclear). (But then "teakettle" is also often used exactly as "newb" in English. "I am a total teakettle in tango.") Cheers, Igor Larry Colen Wed, 31 Oct 2018 09:40:03 -0700 wrote: A bit of clarification... I have for the most part been lurking, but I seem to either not be receiving mail from the list or to have been unintentionally unsubscribed. Could someone reply to me off-list and let me know if this is getting there? Do I need to wave the sacrificial chicken again? In other news recently purchased a new (to me) M42 55mm and 135mm and hope to soon give them a real try out on the K1000. PESO 2018 - 065, 066 (lens testing) - GDG
My equipment juggling (Leica CL acquisition) has started another round of lens experimentation. Here are two sessions... --- I dug this old Sigma 600mm cat out of the closet and fitted it to a mount adapter, mounted it on the CL just for giggles. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1825/41601324160_e6fa4aed29_o.jpg That's effectively a 900mm f/8 lens on APS-C format ... Not something I'll use terribly frequently but eh? whatever. I think it cost me about $80 a decade or more ago. It's pretty soft and flarey, but I was able to make this fine portrait with it: https://flic.kr/p/26oaEgW To give you a notion of the scale and distance, here's the shooting setup: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1766/29538822258_48710a7aec_o.jpg --- Next, I pulled out my Leica Elmar-R 180mm f/4 and the 2x Extender-R. It's a nice, compact, and pretty light package on the CL, with an equivalent FoV of a 540mm f/8 lens... https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1822/28557199937_4d8648529e_c.jpg Whee! Adjustable aperture and FAR FAR better performance than the Sigma ... A couple of test shots ... wide open: https://farm1.staticflickr.com/919/28557200237_f102d6e7e1_c.jpg set to f/11: https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1801/28557200167_8fc047a6ae_c.jpg Now, I'll probably only very rarely use such a long lens as this anyway, but sometimes the opportunity appears and it's fun to have a relatively small, light, cheap long-lens capability: https://flic.kr/p/Kvv7Wg Yes, the bird is a hawk. :) Enough for now. I acquired the Leica CL body primarily to use for tabletop, macro, and repro work, what's been missing since I sent the SL off for consignment sale, but it's kind of fun to see what all my R and M lenses perform like on it. enjoy! We have a list policy? Does it cover breakage? I am hesitant to remove the filtering, imagining all sorts of trouble with attachments, not least of which would be the open invitation to send malicious content. It is of course possible to migrate to a more HTML-friendly software, but doing so would involve another learning curve I'm not sure I'm willing to experience, since Mailman serves our purposes quite well and has done since I took over, with the occasional hiccup. Note that this is not list policy I'm talking about, but rather my personal preference. I'm willing to take into consideration arguments for and against the ability to experience pink 36pt fonts for the PDML. If someone has something to say that is important enough, they will find a way of sending it plain text. I prefer the security and lack of farkles of the present situation. When we get it all sorted the List will still be in plain text only. But people will be able to send email to the server without reconfiguring their client to send plain text only. (The server will strip out everything but the plain text before passing it on to the list.) This is becoming important because almost all email services default to HTML text these days and they're (deliberately, in my opinion) making it more difficult for users to change to plain text only.
