on Windows. I will have a second look.

Done that thanks (I'm guessing that you meant custom-convert.conf, not
custom-types.conf, for the second modification).
What do I do now to point AlienBBC at my .ra files (or my .ra files at
AlienBBC)?

You have to point AlienBBC - Slimserver will now know about the ra
extension. I think browser music folder will work but a quick way
would be to use Tune in with file:// prefixing the full file path.

So it does. How splendid.

Hi All
I'm trying unsuccessfully to get AlienBBC running on a LinkStation Pro
running Freelink (Debian) and hope someone might be able to help.
So far, I have SlimServer 6.5.1 running fine, and have installed the
AlienBBC 1.06 plugin correctly (I can browse through the different BBC

I recently purchased a Squeezebox to listen primarily to Internet Radio.
I used a workaround described on the forum to get Slimserver running on
Vista Home Premium.
My problem is I cannot get RTE Radio 1 Live to play on the Squeezebox.
All of the other RTE and BBC stations work fine. When I try
Hello,
I've Slimserver 6.2.1 with AlienBBc and a patch for Slimserver and all
works fine. If I upgrade to Slimserver 6.5.1 (I'm interested for the
RadioTime plugin), can I have AlienBbc? Must I use the patch for
version 6.2.1 or there is a new patch or no patch at all? Thanks a lot

Edit (using Wordpad if on Windows) the file
Plugins/Alien/AlienAddon/AlienRTEMenu.pm and change the line 174 from
Radio 1 Live|http://www.rte.ie/smiltest/radio1_new.smil;,
(http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4678)?
There's a new patch up there which should work with Linux as well. Please
give it a try.

bpa,
Many thanks for your fast reply which worked perfectly. After making
the change to the URL, all I had to do was to restart the computer and
I was listening to RTE Radio 1 Live on the Squeezebox.
Thanks again,

The current implementation of the Real decoder in mplayer uses floating
point. Most ARM processor do not have an FPU so it is emulated and is
about 10 times slower - so a 266MHZ ARM with no FPU cannot do real time
decoding of RealAudio but a 266Mhz PPC (e.g. DS106, LinkStation II/Kuro)

Thanks for the input - that makes a lot of sense but suggests no simple
solution.
AlienBBC is a 'nice to have' for me so I can take it or leave it, but I
might have a further play around (perhaps trying to compile mplayer
natively) if I get the time. However, your warnings about performance

The same settings do _not_ apply.

that AlienBbc works with Soundbridge only with a patch: isn't it?

My PDA and SS are all on the same side of the router firewall, so I
don't usually have to worry about ports, but I forwarded tham any way,

I think the mplayer problem is mplayer detection of the capabilities of
the AMD Athlon processor.
Another user had similar problem with a VIA processor. I have built 3
version of mplayer 1.0rc1. Try no. 1 and if that fails then 2 and 3.
Wow thank you so much. No.1 works!!

Don't open the ports towards the internet. I wasn't talking about your
main firewall, but your computer's built-in firewall. I
No 1. worked with the VIA processor as well. It looks like detection
code in mplayer has been fixed and that'll be good for the next release

The hardware part of a project like this could be solved by the
following:
If you can have a program write the data to a file, you could use
FileViewer plugin to display it. Or copy this to create you custom plugin,
if you need to do some parsing.

SuperDateTime can parse Weather Underground, which features more than 50
