Oddly, the iPlayer Favourite streams have started working after a recent
update I've been using nightly builds of 7.4.0 that seem to be updated
pretty much every day... I've now moved to 7.4.1 beta.
By 'working' I mean that the SqueezeboxServer Favourites for those BBC
daily shows now grab the
You can use BBCiPlayer plugin both inside and outside the UK. UK users
get the higher quality streams and MP3. Non UK users cannot get the MP3
streams.
You can force MP3 streams if you disable the AAC filetype in WebUI
Settings/Advanced/Filetypes.

Below is the selected info the BBC provides for Danny Baker programs -
there are program identifiers which give info on the URl to use to play
a specific program. There are also program title which can be different
or the same and have no defined format - they cannot be used reliably to

This is a BBC problem and I don't think the plugin can't fix it easily.
Favorites can be made for a "brand" which is a BBC term for a Titled
program such as "Danny Baker" or "Composer of the Week". Within that
brand there will be episodes - each uniquely identified. So if you make
a Favorite fr
Well, there appears to be something funky going on with either
SqueezeCenter or the iPlayer plugin. There are five valid static daily
feeds under Home > BBC iPlayer > BBC Local Radio > BBC London > Danny
Baker > Mon/Tue/etc, just like with the old AlienBBC set-up and these
work as expected when
Once BBC made the XML feed available, it was expected that AlienBBC
plugin could be retired.
I don't think the small differences in program availability justifies
the effort maintaining screen scraping the web interface. So AlienBBC
users should try to use BBCiPlayer as their main BBC plugin
My understanding is that the BBC has now dumped RealPlayer for Listen
Again, at least for local radio. Since AlienBBC doesn't seem to cope
with iPlayer streams, I guess that means that AlienBBC is defunct for
BBC streams too...
The iPlayer plugin seems to offer much the same features as AlienBBC

Hi Guys, sorry to butt in here so late in the thread but I'm getting
very confused!
Are we saying that we can now get everything that BBC Radio puts out
(both listen again and live streams) through the iPlayer plugin, in
native Squeezebox friendly formats (so no transcoding needed on the
server)?
I had a feeling that the Favorites setup might be the nub of the
problem. I wonder whether caching may be part of the issue.

In that case, I'll keep an eye on it for a day or two and see what
happens with the next couple of programmes...

The BBCiPlayer now has a Danny Baker for Monday - I think the BBC XML
feed which is used by BBCiPlayer is not updated as quickly as the Web
interface so the problem is with BBC.

Alas, those five daily links for the Danny Baker show on iPlayer don't
appear to be working, though I'm not sure why.
Last week, I set the Monday show (Home > BBC iPlayer > BBC Local Radio
> BBC London > Danny Baker > Monday) as a Favourite and at the
weekend, it was indeed playing last Monda
If you can give me an example of different times on the BBCiPlayer one I
will look at the plugin. Currently it converts the time in the xmlfeed
to local time and so it is dependant on timezone info on the local
machine. If you are not in the uk you may get different times.

The specific item I was looking for was The Essay on Radio 3.
It appeared in the AlienBBC listings, but not in the iPlayer listings.
Though I couldn't get it to play with AlienBBC.
There was evidently something weird about this, as iPlayer Downloader

Can you give some specific examples.
Is it a case of AlienBBC
* showing more days
* fewer or more programs on a specific days
* different programs for the same time slot compared to BBCiPlayer

While both are sourced from data at the BBC ... the BBC sources do not
come from the indentical root source ... so there can be differences.
In theory, during Wednesday 16 the source tha

It's not a contradiction, it's just the BBC have changed their mind on
RealAudio all the more reason for user to stop using AlienBBC and use
BBCiPlayer.

Don't know I am afraid - not looked at 7.3 for a long time... In
general I think 7.4 will be more stable with iplayer. What caused you
to go back?

Since I installed 7.4, decided I really didn't like it and reverted back
to 7.3.3 my alarms have stopped working. They seem to be playing, but
they are silent. My alarms use my BBC Radio 4 iPlayer favourite.
If I choose to play the Radio 4 playlist favourite directly however it
plays just fine.
Please try the latest 7.4 - the bug which prevented favorites being set
for iPlayer has been fixed.
(This only existed in the default web skins, but I guess most users
don't know that there are any other web skins so I shouldn't have said
this...)

Just to update everyone on this I have been in touch with the BBC
about this change, but I've yet to get a meaningful reply. At the
moment, I'm still at the "This is how you use iPlayer" stage with its
iPlayer tech support people, but I'll keep plugging away until I get
through to someone that c
Ok - the problem is that the default skin is using javascript to do this
and it bypasses setting the parser...
Try setting a favorite using the classic skin and it should work..
However this is going to produce an xmlbrowser list which is not the

It needs to store a parser too with a filter:X=Y param - did you get
that?

The Favorite idea doesn't work - it generates a Favorite with an URL
such as
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/availability/bbc_london.xml?Danny%20Baker
but the response does not play as a Favorite or even have only Danny
Baker. It looks like the full BBC London schedule.

You should already be able to add a brand/series menu to your favorites
by clicking the heart icon in web interface on the relavent menu. This
is intended to store the relavent information to always build the latest
menu for that brand/series. I think you can then add this to the alarm
playlist,
Did a quick test
The following gives an XML of Danny Bakers current epsiodes on iPlayer
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p001d7kl/episodes/player.xml
Similarly for COTW
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006tnxf/episodes/player.xml
Bad news is that I think BBCiPlayer will need a new parser to hand
One line of enquiry which I never fully explored was the fact that
program "brands" have a fixed code - Composer of the week is b006tnxf .
This code can be used to get info iniCal format such as
The COTW programmes currently on iPlayer
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006tnxf/episodes/player.i
The URL organisation is the BBC's responsibility. AlienBBC and
BBCiPlayer display and play the programs according to the lists the BBC
provides.
For a few programmes and mostly for UK listeners - there are podcasts
so that Composer of the Week can be played using.
http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/pod
Yup, no doubt I was just hoping that someone had tracked down a
similar static weekly URL for the iPlayer content...

Same frustration with Composer of the Week on Radio 3. Would love to
get back to a stable favorite for the 5 programs.
But I suspect it's the BBC's doing, not Alien or BBCPlayer.
