Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2009-10-20 Thread Innocence

Any change to the SCCLITool for 7.4.x yet, especially on the apparent
inability for the tool to talk to a SBR (SqueezeBox Receiver) when it's
connected to mySqueezeBox.com?

I tried using the latest SvrPowerControl (20091017) plugin, but it
seems to keep the network port on the SBS (SqueezeBox Server) active,
making my script believe a user is currently connected to the server,
thus preventing standby. I'd rather handle the SBR from the script
instead, just need the tool :)

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Getting a genuine random selection of songs

2009-10-20 Thread noguru

I have a very large and diverse music collection and would like to be
able to get a wide variety of tracks in play lists. I am using Trakstat
and Dynamic playlists and find that the same artists and songs are being
played over again and others totally ignored. I would say that maybe 10
artists are played regularly and if you look at albums it is usually the
same one or two tracks.

Anyone any tips on how to get a wider selection without setting up play
lists manually? Also can the time setting for not recently played be
adjusted?

Mike

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Beta version of SvrPowerControl

2009-10-20 Thread dip

I used SvrPowerControl with SC 7.3 without problems to suspend SC after
45 minutes idle time on Ubuntu 9.04. After upgrading to squeezeboxserver
7.4 the plugin did no longer work so I uninstalled it.

I have now tested the new beta of the plugin and it crashes my
squeezboxserver. I enclose my server.log file. I manually installed the
beta version by copying the SvrPowerControl folder to
/var/lib/squeezboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins. After a server
restart the SvrPowerControl links wer shown in the web interface main
page of squeezeboxserver but the plugin was not listed on the plugins
page of the sqeueezeboxserver settings. And there was no way to access
the settings page of the plugin (there was also no prefs file
installed).

I tried then to suspend the server using the links on the web interface
main page but this did not have any effect. I than tried to shutdown the
server using SvrPowerControl and then squeezeboxserver died.

I usually stop SBS and delete FileCache.

I've had weird caching/download problems with ED.

One where ED was using SHA checksums from old ZIPs and install failed
but no notice given to user except thet are are told System needs to be
restarted.

Also I think because Windows CDplayer is a bit big, the download of
CDplayer Plugin is sometimes incomplete (i.e filesize on PC is smaller
than ZIP file) because I think reboot starts. Nothing is fully
reproducible so all I can do is track the issues as they may be just
specific to my setup.

Couldn't you just buy the iTouch iPod? Does the same thing without the

This can all be done without MusicIP and from within Dynamic Playlists.
Go to SQL Playlist in SBS and click create new playlist. Then choose
advanced (or advanced with ratings if you use ratings). This allows you
to ignore recently played songs, select or ignore genres, specify
lengths of songs etc. Hopefully you can create your perfect playlist
from there.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] PowerCenter Amp Not Switching

2009-10-20 Thread jprady

Hi,

I have recently updated to 7.4 from 7.3, and use PowerCenter to switch
on the amplifiers associated with my (3) squeezeboxes. However, since
upgrading from 7.3 to 7.4, and reinstalling the plugin, switching of the
amps doesn't take place despite setting up the appropriate X10
addresses. (Everything used to work just fine)

I have tested switching other things via the menu, and this appears to
work, suggesting that the path etc is correct.

Is there a log I can check somewhere to see what is happening -
server.log doesn't seem to show anything?

It doesn't look as though the X10 commands to switch the amps are
taking place as a heyu monitor running on the server doesn't show
anything up.

Thanks for any help that anyone can give me.

Jamie.

Roger66;474809 Wrote:
Nice, but what about re-activating the *core features* of

Sleep monitoring with option shutdown to mysqueezebox.com doesn't work
with this beta. I'm no programmer and I dont't need the plugin for
anything else than sleep monitoring .
I'll try to test this today.

But please understand: I'm not excited about SBS 7.4. None of the bugs
I care about were addressed. A couple of new bugs were introduced that
make a good chunk of my music collection impossible to play. It gives
me no new features that I'm interested in. Many of the UI changes I find
to be personally distasteful. Programming around all the seemingly
pointless api changes between 7.3 and 7.4 has been a PITA.

So, unless you are using a Squeezebox Radio or Squeezebox Touch, my
attitude is 'why bother' with 7.4? I'm as susceptible to 'update fever'
as the next person. But not in this case. My 'production' music server
at home still runs 7.3.4 and SrvrPowerCtrl seems to be working well
there.

I have to ask: If sleep monitoring is important to you, and if 7.3.4
isn't missing anything you can't live without, why not go back to 7.3.4,
for the time being?

I'll do my best to put out a version of SrvrPowerCtrl that works
equally well with 7.3.4 and 7.4.x in time. But again, please
understand: there's absolutely nothing in it for me, personally. The
'fun' quotient in preparing this next version has been kind of zilch.
Which is not to say that I don't care about your issue. I would like to
get this working for you. But the only real incentive at work here is
my own curiosity.

That code successfully pushes the SB3 onto mysqueezebox.com and fetches
it back again. Other than pushing and fetching, SCCLITool has never (I
don't believe) had the ability to query or control players connected to
SN/MSB. Was there some way in which scclitool.exe used to work for you
in interacting with SN? I'm not aware of any abilities in this regard
simply because I'm not aware of any CLI commands that support this.

For any sort of actual control of SN/MSB connected players, I think
you'll need to look at Epoch1970s JSON scripts.

to keep the network port on the SBS (SqueezeBox Server) active, making
my script believe a user is currently connected to the server, thus
preventing standby. I'd rather handle the SBR from the script instead,
 just need the tool :)
I can't think of any changes I've made to SrvrPowerCtrl that would
cause a network port to stay active. Perhaps this is a SBS 7.4 change?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] AlienBBC vs BBCiPlayer plugins

2009-10-20 Thread bpa

Since the BBC has announced they will be stopping RealAudio streams by
30 March 2010 (with the exception of World Service) - BBCiPlayer is the
preferred plugin for users of BBC and as such AlienBBC has been removed
from Plugin main list.

Why do you need the RealAudio streams when there are equally good WMA
streams which need no transcoding.

Thanks for putting together the great system which I was using happily

I installed the latest versions per instructions on FreeNAS 0.7RC2

2048MiB RAM
I clicked enable and - no joy.

I could try an re-install old tarball to get dependencies fixed? I blew

most current users of slimserver haven't done.

I used SvrPowerControl with SC 7.3 without problems to suspend SC after

Did you run SrvrPowerCtrl's Debian setup script after you installed the
beta version of the plugin? With the change to SBS7.4, new changes need
to be made to /etc/sudoers for the plugin to work. Specifically,
anyplace in /etc/sudoers that said 'squeezecenter' under SC 7.3.x now
must say 'squeezeboxserver' with 7.4. Squeezebox Server 7.4 runs under
different credentials than SqueezeCenter and you have to account for
that in /etc/sudoers order for SrvrPowerCtrl to work.

Looking at your server.log, that's what looks to be happening. You
appeared to attempt two suspends and a server shutdown, none of which
succeeded. I'm guessing that it's because of the permissions problem in
/etc/sudoers.

From a terminal, run:

Code:

  # sudo
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/SrvrPowerCtrl/scripts/Debian/srvrpowerctrl-setup.sh

..and see if that re-enables SrvrPowerCtl's ability to
suspend/shutdown/etc. your system.

The only case where SrvrPowerCtrl 'crashed' your squeezeboxserver is
when you attempted to execute a server shutdown. That SrvrPowerCtrl's
shutdown function indeed halts squeezeboxserver...and it is supposed to
do that. The fact that SBS restarted itself is the problematic point
here, not that SBS died. So I'll have to look into this.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] TitleSwitcher and MusicInfoScreen on squeezeboxserver 7.4

2009-10-20 Thread dip

I use the TitleSwitcher and MusicInfoScreen plugins to switch display
every 15 seconds between

TITLE (ARTIST) and GROUPING (COMPOSER)

i.e. for example Molto vivace (Leonard Bernstein) and Symphony No. 9
(Beethoven, Ludwig van)

GROUPING is a tag scanned with the CustomScan plugin in which I store
the work title for classical music. For non-classical music GROUPING and
COMPOSER are empty since I set the composer only for classical music.

Since the TitleSwitcher plugin does only switch display if the used
tags are not empty, the result is that for non-classical music the
display of my squeezbox always shows TITLE (ARTIST) while the switching
described above takes place only for classical music. For me that is a
perfect solution that takes into account that for classical music
composer, artist, work, and movement (which is stored in TITLE) should
be displayed while for non-classical music only artist and track title
should be displayed.

This worked perfectly with SC 7.3 for all kind of music sources. In 7.4
it works only correctly for music from my local library but it does not
work correctly for music from internet radios and last.fm.

For example, when I hear music from last.fm the display switches
between

TITLE (ARTIST) and TITLE

If you look into the enclosed server.log it seems that the
MusicInfoScreen plugin has problems with the COMPOSER tag which is not
set for the last.fm music (although there are no problems with my own
non-classical music for which this tag is also not set).

Same problem happens with internet radio. For example, if I hear radio
station Bayern 3 the display switches between

Top-40 Pop (Bayern 3 97,3) and Top-40 Pop

Note that Top-40 Pop is always the contents of the TITLE tag and
Bayern 3 97,3 is the contents of the ARTIST tag for this radio station
since the real artist names and titles are not transmitted. Of course
the GROUPING and the COMPOSER tags are not set so it seems to be the
same problem as with last.fm.

I don't know if it is a problem with the TitleSwitcher or with the
MusicInfoScreen plugin. But I know that it worked perfectly with SC 7.3
even for last.fm and internet radio.

I enclose also screenshots from the settings for TitleSwitcher and
MusicInfoScreen.

Erland and Michael, could you please look into this problem and check
which plugin causes the problem?

Thanks a lot for your efforts.

First, double-check your X10 codes on the player settings pages;
PowerCenter is very picky about things like whitespace. Set a player for
M1 and it should work; use M1 and it won't.

PowerCenter did recently change the APIs it uses to handle on/of
switching, but I haven't had any problems on my 7.3.x production system
or my 7.4.1 test system. I'm only using bottlerocket on my system, but
that should not be a material difference. And in any case I would not
expect problems powering an amp on (PowerCenter is now more careful
about powering an amp off, to handle multizone amp setups).

You can use the server's Logging settings to log PowerCenter at Debug
level to get more information. I'm not hopeful about logging helping;
there aren't many logging statements in the on/off handling of 2.2.0.

What sort of player(s) are you using?

Sorry, I did not know that I have to run the setup script, I will try
that this evening and report.

When I switched from Windows XP to Ubuntu 9.04 (using SC 7.3) I
recognized that after a SC crash it was automatically restarted (which
is different from the Windows version). On Ubuntu there is a
squeezeboxserver_safe process running in addition to the normal
squezeboxserver which may restart squeezboxserver automatically if it
dies?

So it could be that restart is on purpose and it may be that shutdown
from SvrPowerControl always had this behavior. Usually I only use
suspend and I clicked on shutdown only for testing purposes so I don't
know if this happend already with SC 7.3 or if this is new in
squeezboxserver 7.4.

That's good to know. Thanks. So, it's Ubuntu that's restarting
squeezeboxserver and not SBS itself. And, yes, the 'stopserver' on
server shutdown aspect of SrvrPowerCtrl has always been there.
Ostensibly, it's purpose is to allow squeezeboxserver to gracefully
close the database. It's probably not necessary. I removed the
'stopserver' request from the 'restart server' function long ago, with
no deleterious effect, seemingly.

Hi,

Excited to read this post. Unfortunately, not happening here. I am
running 7.4 and as you probably know, there are a few changes in this
version. Including the My Apps folder.

The folder is now c:\program files\squeezebox not squeezecenter.

Using the extension installer, it says that it is installed. There is
an Audioscrobbler folder in server\slim\plugin but no squeezescrobbler
anywhere, which is odd. The squeezescrobbler appears as an installed
plugin in the plugins tab. Lastfm shows in the Internet Radio list.
But...

If I click on the Lastfm icon under internet radio, it just sits there
loading forever. On the Duet remote, lastfm does not show up at all.

Can I assume that all other people here who have had the fortune to get
the plugin running are using a previous version of squeezecenter (or as
Logitech call it now Squeezebox Server)?

Any tips on getting this plugin going with 7.4?

would. With all other players, though, I just over-write the 7.3.4
versions of the files in the /usr/share/squeezecenter/Firmware directory

doesn't cause any side effects that I've noticed.

Thanks for your response.

It was down to the fact that I hadn't put in a serial port device for

I can't explain why when I tested out the manual switching it worked

was switching was actually operated by a script kicked off by heyu to
then operate a DomiaLite device via a perl script.

[SlimDevices: Plugins] Autorefresh of Bio/Review Plugins?

2009-10-20 Thread BigBirdy

Is there any way that either the Biography, Album Review or other albums
stats which you can show on the left pane of the SBS, with a playlist on
the right, can automatically update with the current song? Hopefully I
am missing a setting somewhere since these plugins are pretty limited if
these albums/artist details wont automatically update when you move to
the next song? They all seem to remain on the artist that was playing
when you first load the plugin and when you move to the next song, the
page/info is not updated.

Suggestions? and thanks to those who have put in the time to write
these

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Inguz and 7.4

Is Inguz working for everyone else? Is nobody using it? I'm surprised
by the lack of interest in this topic. If it's working for some of you,
any ideas why it would function perfectly at the remote but have no
effect on the sound?

Thank you Erland for you quick and clear answers (as always !).
I understand but i'm currently using 7.3.3 and not 7.4.
Did CS works with AAC in previous versions ?

I know it has worked before, but it doesn't seem to work for me in
7.3.3 when I tested it now.

The correction will only be made in the 7.4 version, so I'm afraid you
will have to upgrade if you want support for this.

I don't believe this has anything to do with the 7.4 release. This
occurred during the 7.3 or earlier release and coincided exactly with
 using shortcuts.

Have you eliminated the shortcuts as I suggested in an earlier post? -
If that doesn't work, pick the smallest directory of music and set it
as a single directory in Settings, SqueezeCenter Music Folder - no
shortcuts (should be a much quicker scan, do a clear library and rescan
everything}.
If that works, create a C:\Little Library and add a shortcut to the
single small directory, point the SqueezeCenter Music Folder to the
C:\Little Library and do a clear and rescan. If that works, away you
go.
If all that didn't fix it, you may have to try just the single
directory in MIP until you get it to work.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] SlimNAS 1.9.99 for SqueezeboxServer 7.4.1+ / FreeNAS 0.7

2009-10-20 Thread mstokoe

I ran a quick test of the SBC UPNP client on a Ubuntu install and it
worked just fine. The same SBC release installed on Freenas does not
work. Not being a freeBSD type and having no knowledge of freenas' inner
workings, I was curious about how best to troubleshoot this problem.

Thanks,

No, cause prior to 7.4.x I didn't use the scclitool, just the plugin.
When the plugin stopped working, I figured I might as well turn the
control entirely over to my script by using your scclitool.

I'll try out your suggestions, thanks :D
The CLI documentation is unclear, in my opinion. You must use
'connect' to push a player from the server processing the CLI request to
another server (myb or another sbs). Once the player has been 'pushed',
the only way to recall it to the server you're CLIing is to use
'disconnect'. Not exactly intuitive, but it works.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] XM radio plugin with 7.4?

2009-10-20 Thread cff

Sorry, I should've been more specific. I was referring to adding the
link to your favorites under Squeezecenter, not Squeezenetwork. I'm not
sure why your URL includes your public address instead of your LAN
address (192.168.x, 172.16.x, 10.x.something). Did you substitute that
yourself? Replace the name portion (the part between http:// and :9000)
with your internal IP address and add it to your local favorites and try
to play it that way (when connected to your local server). Otherwise, if
you do want to play it via Squeezenetwork, you *should* be able to do so
also, but if you haven't already, you'll need to setup your router to
forward port 9000 into the LAN IP (which needs to be static) of your
system that's running Squeezecenter. You might want to enable a
username/password for the server though unless you don't care about
others accessing your system via the Internet (especially considering
you have your public DNS name in your post).

Hope this helps.

Logitech put some simple eq/balance controls on the next SC update???
