Material has *never* shown the conductor in the queue or now-playing.
These Composer/Conductor genre options were originally to control
wehther Composer/Conductor options appeared when browsing via Genre.
e.g. "My Music / Genres / Classical" would then allow you to chosse
from; Artists, Ablums, Random Albums, Conductors, Composers. Later I
then used the 'Composer genres' list to control whether composer was
shown in the queue and now-playing. For 2.2 'Band genres' will also
control whether 'Bands' is shown in "My Music / Genres / ", -and-
will control showing band in the queue and now-playing.

*Material debug:* 1. Launch via http: //SERVER:9000/material/?debug=json
(Use http: //SERVER:9000/material/?debug=json,cometd to also see update
messages, e.g. play queue) 2. Open browser's developer tools 3. Open
console tab in developer tools 4. REQ/RESP messages sent to/from LMS
will be logged here.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Spotify only plays first six minutes of a track then skips to next track in album

2020-12-16 Thread Michael Herger

I've uploaded the log to your Dropbox. I hope it's the right file.

Three issues I'm seeing (two of them totally unrelated to Spotty :-)):

- There are quite a few hints about network issues in general. Like
inability to connect to mysb.com:

Slim::Networking::Async::connect (114) Failed to connect to
www.mysqueezebox.com:443, because

Net::HTTP: connect: timeout
Slim::Networking::SqueezeNetwork::Players::_players_error (377) Unable
to get players from SN: Connect timed out: A connection attempt failed
because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of
time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed
to respond., retrying in 86400 seconds

If you had intermittent network issues, that certainly wouldn't help
with Spotty.

- your log file lacks any timestamps. Please shut down LMS, go to the
prefs and logs folders and delete log.conf (see Settings/Information for
the paths). Then restart LMS.

- SongInfo is flooding your log file with errors. 20-30 per minute.
Unless you really, really need it, I'd say get rid of it. Inform its
author about the problem.

Nothing wrong with running a Pi with no case, if it's out of harm's
way.

It's a 3.5mm stereo socket. Quality on the Pi 3B+ and 4 is really not
bad.

Don't go anything less than the 3B+, it really isn't worth the saving.
While you can run LMS on anything, the faster the unit, the move
responsive it is. I noticed a considerable improvement going from 3B+
to 4. Don't worry about the heat, the worst problems were with early
firmware, now fixed. My 4 runs slightly cooler than my old 3B+ for LMS.
No doubt it would get a lot hotter if I was using its power more long
term, like as a desktop PC.

Pi3 is cheaper than Pi4 and for a simple LMS with some transcoding - it
is OK. Pi4 is speedier and better USB support.

There is a plain "official" PI case and PSU - basic but works.

You can buy new and as a kit form many Pi vendors such as
https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-3-model-b-plus/
https://thepihut.com/collections/raspberry-pi/products/raspberry-pi-3-model-b-plus

Or cheaper 2nd hand - but you have to get the case and PSU separately.
I wouldn't go anything less than a Pi3 - I think 1GB is enough for
internet radio alone. Other can suggested whether 2GB or more helps
maybe to run other stuff on the Pi.

2020-12-16 Thread Paul Webster

The bare minimum is the Raspberry Pi itself and a power supply (micro
USB ... but recommend that you buy a Pi one rather than reuse an old
phone charger) - plus a micro SD card.

If you don't have somewhere good to run it without a case (e.g. inside a
speaker case) then get a case for it as well.

If you want sound out of it then you need to work out how you are going
to do that since it does not have a built in speaker.

Cheapest and similar quality to the mini-din socket on a Joggler is the
mini-din socket on the Pi ... but watch out because not all models have
one.
They all have HDMI output though so that is another way to capture
sound.
Most go for an add on board (a HAT - see the IQaudio ones from Raspberry
Pi which are the result of them acquiring the assets of another company)
or a USB audio card.
These go from 6GBP to lots.

Since you are going to run LMS on it then it is best to get one with an
Ethernet socket (again - not all do).

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] LmsUpdate and LmsRepack - Synology 8.0.* packages

2020-12-16 Thread Tapaballou

Dear Martin,
thanks a lot for your support specially for the niche users with
PowerPC, since LMS is usable with a more than 7 years old NAS.
Since I have sold my DS213+ some months ago and changed to a DS218+ I am
a happy user from your package and must change
to Docker or Raspberry Pi solution when DSM 7 will get standard (or Perl
updated before). Maybe you could just update one version,
because the actual one does not work with non-compliant CUE-Sheets.
I have seen a lot of users in the Synology community who are not happy
of the announcement of Synology to put LMS onto the EOL-List.
I have read many comments like "The LMS is my only use case" which
should interest a company like Synology, because then it makes no big
difference if I buy a NAS from Qnap or Asustor eg. which are cheaper.
Maybe we should all put our comments also in the following reply list to
the announcement of Synology.
https://community.synology.com/enu/forum/1/post/130768?reply=417639
Sometimes this helps...
The system is actually with the Corona crisis in heavy use from the
complete family so that every outage is a little disaster for me as
"family admin".
Thanks again, and kind regards from Germany

I guess I'll keep my NAS running for a bit with the current seutp. If I
understand correctly, the 'official' LMS is now within a docker
container. I need to study how to setup this on my NAS.

I substituted default:CARD=HIFIRef with hw:CARD=HIFIRef,DEV=0 and

Result:
Working for -D : DoP
Working for -D : u32be

both up to DSD 256 (5644k). I thought the DAC also supported DSD512
(native mode only) but so far getting silence for the 512 test track.
DSD 512 is in any case of only academic interest.

Thanks again!

Nothing obviously amiss with the Spotty settings (I'm using my own

When I tap the + icon on an album, it immediately adds the album to the

Pulseaudio is aimed at mixing outputs so audio outputs can be shared -
so it'll probably mangle your bit stream in order to share.

I don;t know DSD but I do know a bit about ALSA.

You are using a Default device. Some class of ALSA devices (e.g plughw)
will do software conversion to match device and required output - i.e
mangle the bitstream.
Since you want to use DSD DAC direct - I think look to using a "hw:"
ALSA device (i.e. no software conversion within ALSA) for your DAC and
see if it makes a difference

Do a Squeezelite "-l" to list possible ALSA devices.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] DSD on squeezelite

2020-12-16 Thread Learnincurve

I might be closer to a reason:

The new system has Pulse Audio installed by default, but I have the
non-pulse version of squeezelite installed.

PCM plays back fine, but it is possible that PA is getting in the way
when it comes to DSD.

I have only used PA in desktop systems where I just pick the device from
the GUI and forget about it. All other systems have been plain ALSA, so
it looks like I now have the choice of removing PA and figuring out any
dependency breakings (my preferred approach as it would almost certainly
be cleaner and leaner, or installing squeezelite-pa and trying to work
it out from there.

Any experience regarding the best approach?

Yes, unfortunately the status information in this particular error is a
bit ambiguous and could be caused by the non-blocking http attempt
rather than anything else as the connect never completes, which is
making me curious.
However, my code was definitely wrong and only served to highlight the
glitch, so I'll get a fix out.

Sorry you find it distracting.
Adding in user preference options increases my testing vector quite
considerably. So I've tried to keep that to a minimum by creating what
I like, and hope that is what most other people want too. Once all the
features are there and bugs have stopped being raised, I plan to add in
user preferences, time allowing. However much I enjoy it, and I want to
help people out, there is only so much free time I can give up for this
stuff.
For info, if there is music track info, it displays the programme and
track info in a 4:2 ratio to the audio data, so ~ 26 seconds for the
programme data, 13 seconds for the track data.

I've just been through the whole Youtube API usage audit to see what
happened, and Google have finally removed my API access because

"I (Additional Prohibitions) (link)

So it looks like the plugin may be on shaky ground with its API usage.

2020-12-16 Thread Sergeauckland

Still trying to understand what's happening with this.

I've downloaded and enabled Reliable, just in case that had any bearing,
and it's still skipping after 6 minutes or so.

I've tried using Spotify's app on my tablets, and it's fine, no
skipping. I've tried using Squeezeplayer on my tablet and sending to the
SBT, it skips.

The only consistent thing is that whenever Spotify plays through the
SBT, it only plays the first 6 minutes or so of a long track.

I'm not sufficiently knowledgeable on the logs to know what they're
telling me. I can't see a time-stamp so don't know when an event
happened, so don't know whether a log entry is relevant, but I accept
that could be me, just not understanding the log entries.

If anyone can advise exactly where the Spotty logs are kept, I'll have a
look and post the relevant parts.

Thanks.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce : BBC Sounds Plugin

2020-12-16 Thread tw99

I've tried swapping over to BBC Sounds for live listening (even though
this still works from BBC iPlayer plugin).

I'm finding that the way the player display is managed becomes quite
distracting and a bit annoying. I think this might have also been
discussed earlier in the thread, but what I see is a switch between the
"current track playing" artwork and the "programme presenter" artwork,
every 10-20 seconds or so.

If I'm listening on a PC, this means I've got a player window in the
corner of my vision that keeps updating and attracting my attention.
Similarly on my phone unless I turn it over so I can't see the screen !
I think the way that iPlayer handled this was much more effective as it
changed a lot less.

It would certainly be very useful to have an option to have a less-noisy
display, even if it was just to stop the track artwork being used and
keeping the programme artwork there constantly.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 4.0 - integrate local library with your Spotify collection (LMS 8+)

2020-12-16 Thread Michael Herger

Spotty suddenly lost the Spotify playlist structure, and showed just a
long list of the playlist names. A complete 'clear and rescan' of LMS

Anything in server.log? Or in the Spotty settings?

OK, thanks for the time you are giving to this. Needless to say, it
hasn't missed a beat since my last post!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Announce] Spotty 4.0 - integrate local library with your Spotify collection (LMS 8+)

2020-12-16 Thread Diana

Spotty suddenly lost the Spotify playlist structure, and showed just a
long list of the playlist names. A complete 'clear and rescan' of LMS
stopped as the Spotty playlist scan started with
Media scan terminated unexpectedly (Scanning Progress)

The scanning log is below. Any suggestions to restore the normal
behaviour of Spotty would be most welcome.

Yes, I had a look at the code and I can see that it will just jump the
audio rather than make anything better. Its odd that you are having the
timeout problem/long connection times in the first place. That problem
is happening outside the plugin.

Anyway, I'll fix the code so that it copes better, but depending on how
many times you are failing and how long it takes, you will get buffering
gaps.

I'm afraid I'm not seeing much difference with Radio Station Timeout set
to 3s. Subjectively I think the dropouts are shorter, but I haven't
timed them. I had quite frequent dropouts on WS earlier this morning, R3
seems better but they are still there - not sure if that makes any
sense, and I'd have to monitor for quite a bit longer to be sure it
wasn't just chance.
