Sorry for the delay - you can always get more timely responses via the
official muso forum: http://klarita.net/forum/

How do you point muso to the servers? Via a drive mapping or a UNC
path?
Are the filetypes different on the two servers?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: muso (beta)

2011-01-28 Thread dutchronnie

I have installed Muso, and i like it very much.
But i have a question.

I have 2 network drives with music.
1- NAS DNS323
2- CHD3NET

When i scan music on the NAS is is no problem for Muso, but when i wil
scan music from the CHD3NET then Muso doesn't find music.
It scans the directories, but the result is 0

The drive in de CHD3NET is formated as FAT32, on the NAS is is EXT2.
Can that be the problem?

I find it very strange.
Is there somebody with a solution?

No, Muso is a client rather than a server application - the database is
held on the client for reasons of speed. I am considering separating the
engine and the UI so that it supports the kind of configuration you are
after, but it's unlikely to be in the near future.

I just tried muso and I like it. My main issue is the license being
locked to a machine. Actually that's not really an issue, the issue is
not being able to interface with the software on the machine it is
installed on. At home I have 3 computers that I can access SBS from,
and I would like to be able to do the same with muso. Not only do I not
want to buy 3 licenses, but I also don't want 3 distinct databases. What
I'd like to be able to do is install muso on the same machine that runs
SBS and be able to remotely access it. Is there a way to do that that I
haven't seen, and if not is it in the works?

In the SBS configuration (in the Music Sources tab of Options) make
sure you set the host name and other parameters correctly, then use the
Test CLI and Test MySql Connection buttons. You may need to unbind the
database.

No, I do not edit the muso database, just sync it with SBS.

A re-sync with SBS is really fast so as far as I am concerned it could
be done at startup. The issue is that I keep my PC and muso up and
running for days, hence the request for automatic re-sync when changes
in the SBS database are detected.

I was actually thinking of tackling this anoter way. For users such as
yourself, wouldn't it be preferable for muso to scan and use the SBS
track database directly rather than it's own? Do you EVER edit track
attributes in muso? I can look into the feasibility of this - it would
make muso more tightly integrated with SBS (as an option).

OK, I just stick with the SBS sync method in muso then and wait for SBS
7.6 with enhanced scanning.

Thanks for the new version of muso. It picked up several changes in the
SBS database that were ignored before.

Any progress on the automatic re-sync with SBS feature?

True enough. That was part of the design goal for the muso database -
that the metadata held in muso is OWNED by muso and will not affect

I have to admit SBS is a bit better at tag reading than muso,
especially with some of the lossless formats. It really depends if your
tags are important to you. Personally for my own collection I don't
really care what's in the tags - since I do all the control from muso I
just edit the attributes there and I'm happy. I only very rarely browse
my squeezebox with the remote, that's the only time I would miss the
tags being accurate.

2010-10-15 Thread vagskal

I do like a tool for music collection overview and SBS playback that is
not touching my tags. I only trust a few tools to do that.

I know that muso with the next revision will be even better at picking
up changes in the SBS database. And the next version of SBS, 7.6, is
supposed to be better at picking up file tag changes in a scan for new
and changed music.

Would pointing muso to the same music files as SBS and scan the files
instead of syncing with SBS pick up tag changes in the files better
than SBS is currently (7.5.2) doing? That way the SBS frontend, muso,
could always have the newest data.

This is really for reasons of speed and efficiency. If you really need
your music metadata tags to match muso's tags, I would recommend doing
it the other way round - use one of the established taggers (like
mp3tag) to set your tags, then just re-scan the song files in muso as
you would have to do in SqueezeboxServer (or synch with
SqueezeboxServer having done a re-scan there).

Only have one reservation. Perhaps I want to much and I understand the
reluctance to duplicate what is already well covered in other packages
but it very frustrating that changes to muso music database are not
written to metadata. This means that any changes I make I also need to
make via anoter route eg. Media Monkey.

Have you tried this:

Set the SBS music folder to a folder on a local disc, not an UNC path.

On the computer running muso mount the disc where the SBS music folder
is AND assign that disc the exact same drive letter as on the machine
running SBS, i.e. if the drive letter on the SBS machine is E:, set the
drive letter of that mounted network disc on the muso machine to E:.

If the SBS music folder contains shortcuts that points to other discs
(local paths, not UNC paths) then you will have to mount also those
discs with their original drive letters on the muso machine.

Let the path boxes in muso options be empty.

This works for me, running Win XP on the SBS machine and Win 7 on the
muso machine.

12457 songs parsed

So I tried restoring server and reinstalling sbs 7.4.2 but get exactly
the same response from MUSO, goodness knows what it can be, think I

Thanks, Yes it seems to have happened after IP changing, what could
cause that?

No firewall as far as I know, all ports that should be open are open.

I removed muso from the server thinking that was maybe causing the
problem, will have another look. Incidentally I have just pointed sbs
to scan another directory of music files I have on the main server
drive, scanned fine, muso then also scanned but again 4000 or so
scanning errors with no songs added!

This all started after the IP address changed?
Are there any security/firewall issues that might be causing the
blocking?
Does the Muso you installed on your server work ok?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: muso (beta)

2010-03-27 Thread wonder boy

Muso running on remote xp laptop

Cleared my database as muso wasn't connecting or working. Turned out
that ip address had changed for some reason.

Muso now connects, all 3 test buttons come up as ok, scans sbs database
but then says 12455 songs parsed 0 songs added etc 12455 scanning
errors.

Any ideas what's going on here. It seemed to mess up from when I
installed muso on my server and also squeezeplay. Moose has also lost
functionality as well...

Thanks, shared music folder and tried different combinations and you're
spot on, sharing the folder and tweaking the paths has worked. Funny

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. The 3 buttons are all as they should
be connection OK x2 and database is unbound. My music is in a folder
called music on an external drive J on the main desktop PC.

squeezebox server path prefix is set to J:\music and the muso
equivalent prefix is set to \\530DESKTOP\J:\music.

Although muso picks up my players and I can swap players there is no
music visible. I click on the dropdown import menu at the top and click
on synchronise with squeezebox server but nothing happens. Do I need
anything setting in the music folders tab? I have moose set up working
fine but this looks better but is beating me at the mo.

Thanks again

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: muso (beta)

2010-03-16 Thread cblock

I have it working properly in a windowsXP virtual machine running on an
Ubuntu installation connecting to a separate Ubuntu server.

The music information was imported from the server (the MySQL
connection). You need to check the connection using the three buttons
(in order) at the bottom of the options/music sources tab. Make sure you
have unbound the database or it won't respond to external request on the
MySQL port. You can do this in Muso using the "unbind database" button
bottom right on the tab.

Additionally you need to set the two prefix fields on the tab to point
at your root music directory from the viewpoint of both the client and
the server, as Music stores its information by path. so you'll probably
need to create a network link from the client to the root on the
server.

e.g. My server has a unix type path "/home/Music", and the client has
a windowsy "\\MEDIABOX\musicmbox".

hope this helps.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: muso (beta)

2009-01-31 Thread jezbo

It has come to my attention that in certain scenarios muso can cause
unwanted side effects to your SqueezeCenter (SC) database.

When muso pushes a song file to a SC device, SC will implicitly add
that song to its database if the full path given to it by muso is not
registered within SC already.

Muso is not to be viewed as another skin, it is a 3rd party app that
gives the user the opportunity to push song files to SC devices that
were not pulled from the SC database - but instead were pulled from a
folder scan or imported from iTunes.

For one of my beta testers this actually caused a problem with many
duplicates being registered in SC. This can happen if you have an SC
database which uses drive mappings for song file paths, and you use
muso to scan folders by UNC path, or vice-versa. When muso pushes a
song file to SC, it will not recognise the fact that it's the same song
as another entry in the database which uses a different path mechanism,
and so will register it again.

Therefore I strongly recommend users NOT to mix UNC paths with drive
mappings across muso and SqueezeCenter - always use either one or the
other. If you view SC as the master repository and only import to muso
from SqueezeCenter and never do folder scans, you should not have any
problem, however.

Also, if you do use drive mappings and the machine running muso is not
the same machine that is running SqueezeCenter, please ensure both use
the same drive letters to point to the same root.

Please log these in the Bugs section of the forum:
http://klarita.net/forum/index.php?board=11.0
where they will receive proper attention. As with all bugs sending a
debug log file (muso.log) to albumbrow...@gmail.com will help immensely
in analysing these problems.

SC import wont translate drive mappings to UNC paths - though it could
if there's any compelling reason why your PC running muso can't be made
to recognise these mappings, given that squeezecenter can.

I just tried this program. It seems very good. But I have some
problems:

1. I run Muso on my laptop, while SueezeCenter and the database is on
another computer. Muso can read the SqueezeCenter database, but ends
with all tracks being dead like this:

. Dead File: J:\Music\A\Albéniz\Alicia de Larrocha\Albéniz; Iberia -
Granados; Goyescas Disc 1\01 Iberia Suite, for piano, B. 47; 1.
Evocación.flac

The local directory on the machine with my Music is not translated into
an UNC-path.

2. When I map the network drive to the local drive letter J:, the
database is scanned, but the artwork (all called folder.jpg) is not
found.

3. I have two songs with a right quotation mark instead of a single
quote in the file name; these are scanned incorrectly:

. Dead File: J:\Music\P\Patti Smith\I Never Talked To Bob
Dylan\01-We’re Gonna Have A Real Good Time Together.flac
. Dead File: J:\Music\P\Patti Smith\I Never Talked To Bob
Dylan\06-Aint’t It Strange.flac

4. I've got this error which I can't interpret right:

. Error in scan on track
3959/file:///J:/Music/B/Barb%20Jungr/Every%20Grain%20Of%20Sand%20-%20high/03%20-%20Things%20Have%20Changed.flac:
Value was either too large or too small for an Int16.

I hope these remarks help making your program better.

1) Can you tell me your squeezecenter settings?
2) Are all your songs in one folder? It will pick up artwork from the
same folder as the first song file, if it's not there it will use

The product looks great, but I can't get it to work due to two hopefully
simple problems. I am running 1.0.18 with Squeezecenter 7.2 on Vista.
The music resides on a single computer that squeezecenter and Muso are
running on.

1) I can't get Muso to communicate with Squeezecenter. When I "Test
CLI" in options, I get a "Connection Failed" reading. How do I remmedy
this? Notable, Moose works just fine with my setup, so I think my CLI

2) All of my albums have the same artwork. (ABC's How to Be a
Zillionaire). All of my artwork is stored in the tags ofmy MP3s, not
as separate jpgs in folders. Squeezecenter and Moose read my cover art
just fine.

Thanks much - again this looks like a great product that I would be
happy to pay for. Hope I can get it to work!

I'm not sure if the .NET embedded web browser control has any
dependence on your current version of IE or whether it's entirely
independent, but what version of IE do you have?

You could try to delete the C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Application Data\muso\themes folder before you start - it will
force them to be refreshed.

I haven't changed them - the bit surrounding the star should be
transparent, funnily enough I saw this phenomenon in someone's
screen-dump too.

Ok, I think I've worked out the problem, if I start Muso just a little
early it doesn't find the SB3 and then has no player, I didn't notice
this till today when I tried to recreate the error.

Your SB3 is selected as the current player in muso? Do the tracks
appear in the "Queued Tracks" section or does some error get displayed
on the status line? There's definitely nothing in the player's queue? A
debug log would be useful here I think.

Well Ive had this hapen a few times, so its not a fluke.
Turn on my server, SS7 starts up, Sb3 turns on, then I turn on Muso. I
then browse for an album, and I hit play, in the status bar is says
'enquing track ..' etc but nothing plays. If I hit 'enque' then play,
again nothing. If I select an album with the remote, it plays fine, and
subsequently everything works fine in Muso, but not the first time.
Also, if I check whats in the playlis after enque, its empty.

Ok, I did a basic recover (copies all the main windows files again) but
no luck, so I went the whole hog and I've done a full re-install (yes,
thats how much I liked Muso) and I've just checked it, and it works.
Now I have only to re-install SC7.3 and everythign else ... this time I
really will do an image backup when everything is working fine.

6: [ 0,279] [0,016] albumWorker_DoWork

For example, when searching by Album/Title : Fairport Convention
"Babbacomb" Lee (the quotes are in the title) this come first in the
list, rather than under B. Same thing with Bowies "Hereos".

Also Genesis : ...and then there were three, Metallica : ...Justice for
All.

All my albums have been tagged using Music Brainz, so i'm sure the
titles are correct.

Loving the application, will play more over the long weekend.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: muso (beta)

2009-01-14 Thread rossp

hmm - I think that may have been user error somehowtried it again
this morning and it selects the player no problem. I think it may have
been down to the synchronise setting in squeezecenter.

FYI I have Muso on my desktop PC and music on WHS - I just added the
music using the scan folder instead of using the database and it works
fine. I haven't checked the detailed counts yet but all good so far.

Great job in finding album artwork by the way - it filled in a lot of
gaps in my collection that itunes never got.

Not as far as I'm aware - in fact that's my test environment! I pick
one or the other and it always sends to the correct one. Send me a
debug log anyway, I'll see if I can spot anything.

2009-01-14 Thread rossp

Hi - I'm just getting the feel of the software but it looks great so
far. Now if I could get something like this to display on my TV from
the wii or PS3.sorry, getting greedy there! :-)

Anyway, I'm working on getting things running with Muso on my PC and
squeezecenter on my windows home server box. I was playing around with
softsqueeze on my PC - Muso was recognizing the player ok, but when I
select the softplayer and select a track to play, it was playing my SB3
downstairs. Does the software get confused between the softsqueeze and
SB3?

Maybe I just haven't found it yet, but how about an option to browse by
the folders structure like the squeezecenter software? I find that more
intuitive than by artist or album due to certain compilations etc.

Keep up the good work.

Just in terms of sorting rather than display? Can you give an example
of where this makes a difference?

OK you SC database experts, I'm looking to preserve the origination date
from SC when importing, which I have gathered so far is in the DATEADDED
column of the TRACKS_PERSISTENT table. But what format is this in? It's
a large integer but it isn't a Julian date.

I've only just moved on to .net 3.5 of the framework! Some of the
libraries I'm now using are not available on .net 2.0 I'm afraid, and
won't recompile there. I could post a link to the old .net 2.0
installation file if you like, but it won't be developed any further.

I cant find a problem with stars on the album page - could you post a
screenshot?

Ordering of albums on the artist page is something I have to look at.

No support for .cue files yet - you can try adding them to the filespec
but I'm not 100% sure what it will do!

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: muso (beta)

2009-01-13 Thread BigTony

When I tried it, it was on the Album Page.
>From the 'Now Playing' it worked fine.

One simple question : I keep loosing the 'Menu' how do i get it back?
(i.e. all I had on screen was the browser view of the Current Song, I
hit Home, and now I can't get out!). I had hoped Home would take me
back to the 'Start' page with Menu etc.
My Server is running on a NetBook, so the screen isn't to big, but
everything is working nicely, and very fast!

A second note : I select Artist (from the Album View) and then it
displayed all Albums by Name, but the selection wasn't sorted
alphabetically (no order that I could sense).

And while I'm here, I assume that there is no support for .cue files? I
didn't see it in the Import File Types (or could I just add .cue in, but
then would it know what to do?)

Cheers

First off, GREAT APP!!! Love it!

My Wife will be overjoyed when she sees this, it's just what she's been
asking for.

However, is there a chance that this app could use the .net 2 framework
instead of .net3.5? Or are new 3.5 features used therein? I ask because
we use Win2000 and Linux normally, neither of which I can load the 3.5

would rather be able to use it on Win2000.

Keep up the good work! Excellent application, it must've taken a lot of

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: muso (beta)

2009-01-13 Thread BigTony

Firstly I'd like to say 'Great App' really does fill that gap for those
of us with monster collections on their PCs, and where the software
makes or breaks an application. I've been using Moose for a while, but
it nice to see how Muso compares. What I'm after is a quick and easy
way to search my collection and get the music playing!

I've just installed, and just one point maybe worth flagging :If you
select 'SqueezeCenter' as your source for music, then import, why not
check the Music Player Box for SB3, rather than leave it blank? Having
a tag under options for 'Music Player' might also help (its currently
under 'Other').

I will make more notes and post later.

Cheers

BT

Jezbo, could I suggest you add "album.jpg" to the list of names that
are searched for album art. This is a standard name used by
Squeezecenter, and judging by the SC forums, I think many SC users will
have organised their libraries using this name.

Thanks for a great app.

Different apps write tags to the id3 metadata in mp3s differently it
seems. The import assumes Album Artist is in frame TPE2 because I think
I'm right in saying that's where iTunes puts it, but other taggers may
store it differently.

Your scan errors seem to be because it's finding \volume1 rather than
\\volume1, I'm not sure why - but the debug log file (muso.log) should
give me a clue. This is in the folder that opens automatically when you
start muso in Debug mode.

Jezbo, thanks for your great soft. It's been a long time i havent seen
such an innovating audio soft :D

- Folder import :
Muse is not importing the following tags from id3v2.4
+ Track no
+ Comment
+ Year

- Weird behavior for "BAND" tag
In id3v2.3(ISO), it's not recognized
In id3v2.4, it's there under the "AlbumArtist"

-I can't import squeezecenter database, all files are scanned as 'dead
files'

--> Port 9090 to 9092 are open
--> Moose can scan
--> Squeezecenter is hosted on a NAS (Synology)

Here's my import.log. Can't understand how to get debug.log (did
started the app in debug mode and check in appdata/muso)
-
...
. Dead File: \volume1\mp3\07. Rock\V.z VA\Indie Rock Playlist\02 -
February 2008\71 - Apes & Androids - Make Forever Last Forever.mp3
