Hi Kate,

I am not sure if you got an answer, so welcome!

Testing is always needed. What operating system do you use?

We prepare at least one "Release Candidate" during our release process.
would you be interested to test them (when available)?

If you have not already perused it, the QA orientation page is a good place to

suggest looking at the Level 1 and Level 2 documents on the

Hey guys,

I subscribed to the AOO QA mailing list due to a recommendation from Keith

I am a Software Engineering student in my Senior year at Florida Institute

unconfirmed AOO Writer bug report and contribute valuable information to it
as an assignment for our Software Testing class. I was ecstatic when I read

contribute to the project right now, as the semester is in full swing, but
I'd certainly be happy to help out when I can.

Hello,

I am a long time user and advocate of Openoffice software. I can't
remember precisely when my first introduction to Openoffice was, but it
would have been around 8 -10 years ago. Openoffice has enabled me to work
on office files and documents, without having to afford Microsoft's Office
software. The extensiveness of capability and cross-compatibility, coupled
with ease of use, has kept me as a long time user of Openoffice.

Having experienced the benefits of the Openoffice software family, I want
the opportunity to give back, in any way that I can offer. Reading that
there is a place for debug verification, I believe that is something that I
can be of immediate assistance with. I love trying to push the limits of
software that I utilize, so this definitely fits.

I have office and technical skills, but not programming experience. I am a
long time CAD operator, and business office software user. Currently I am
a proposal process engineer working for KUKA Systems Aerospace Group. If
any of my professional skills or experience can be of use as an Openoffice
volunteer, I would be thrilled to offer my contributions.

Kind regards,

Frank L Dusett

Hello Preethi and welcome to Apache OpenOffice!

For general information on how you can get involved at QA here,
please see our Introduction to QA page:
http://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/intro-qa.html

You will need a Bugzilla account (information on this page) to help
with QA.

Once you get your account, feel free to help with UNCONFIRMED issues
listed in the "Easy QA Task: Confirm New Defect Reports" section.
This is an ongoing task. (If you need additional permissions to
confirm tasks, please post a message to this list.)

Right now, we are testing out a preliminary candidate for the 4.1.2
release. If you would like to get involved in that, please see how
to obtain the 4.1.2 RC1 candidate on this wiki page:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+4.1.2

and test out the "Release blockers approved and ported to AOO 4.1.2"
from the QA section.

Wow, it sounds like you have a great set of skills and experience.
We can always use someone with this kind of background.

What I don't really have experience with is the Open Source Community. I
have been reading through the QA orientation module. I have opened a
Bugzilla account. I am used to working with Jira, but Bugzilla looks fairly
similar so I don't think the learning curve on it should be that steep.

If you are entirely new to open source you might want to review some
of the other orientation pages as well, so you get a feel for how
we're organized and how we make decisions. It is very different from
a hierarchical top-down corporate structure. We're very flat and
self-directed.

http://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/

Perhaps it would be best for me to start with reviewing some of the bug
reports? Is there a specific procedure for doing that?

We just release Apache OpenOffice 4.1.1 last week. So reviewing
incoming bug reports from users, to see if there is anything
surprising (we hope not!) found by them in this release is a good
place to start. You can find details in the Easy QA Task: Confirm
New Defect Reports section of the QA Orientation page.

I look forward to working with you all.

new QA volunteer

2014-07-02 Thread Amali Praveena Soban Kumar
Hi qa,
I would like to introduce myself: I'm Amali from Victoria, Australia. I've four
years of real experience in software, mostly in C++. Operating systems I've
worked with and known about are Unix, Linux, and Windows. I've got Junior Linux
certification LPIC-1 as well.

I'm interested in C++, Python, Perl, Linux projects.
I've got coding experience in C++ and I've done a good amount of manual testing
as well; however, I would like to learn more about QA, in areas such as test
automation, writing scripts, and automatic testing.

thanks,

Please review our archives[1] and recent emails about the processes for
testing the new AOO 4.1.1 showstopper bugs and report on them. Make sure to
mention the machines (or VMs) at your disposal for testing the application
under those platforms.

2014-05-01 Thread Ambika Rajagopalan
Hello,

This is Ambika Rajagopalan, with ~6 years of QA experience in both manual
and automation testing using selenium/Java. I would like to contribute for
openoffice QA team and get better knowledge about open sourcing.

I would really appreciate if someone help me from where I can get the
latest build and start testing. I also went through the issues page and
getting familiarized but I don't find a page with latest build.

Thanks
Ambika

As for testing, we're right now doing verification testing of the 4.1

developers marked as fixed are actually fixed. If you want to help
with that Yuzhen can help you get started.

But you mentioned unit testing... You might want to ask on the dev

that.

for people with disabilities, and since these people should also be able
to use these tools, I take a great interest in the accessibility of OOo

Hello Christophe, welcome to the Apache OpenOffice project.

I have been aware of your extensions and admired your work for several
years. It is great to have your help and your expertise as we enhance
 the accessibility of OpenOffice.

Since you are also an extension author, you should know that we have
another mailing list, a...@openoffice.apache.org, special for extension
authors. It is a good list to follow to keep informed about API
 changes, etc.

itself. The Java Accessibility API, which OOo uses to expose
 accessibility
metadata on Windows, is not very well supported by screen readers on
Windows, so I am very interested in helping to test the IAccessible2
 implementation as it comes along.
I have added myself to the QA Testing Preferences page at
 https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/QA+Testing+Preferences.

 Best regards,

 Christophe Strobbe

 (I have been using OpenOffice.org since 2003 or 2004 - mostly Writer,
 Calc
 and Impress.)

 Hi,
I would like to introduce myself in order to participate in Open Office

My name is Alena, I live in California. I got recently involved in the
Software Quality Assurance carrier and currently I'm taking classes in SQA.

Hello Alena -- Welcome to the Apache OpenOffice project and our QA team!

I use Open Office in my everyday life and school projects and looking
forward to apply my knowledge and skills in testing this application which
I like a lot! I have already a good experience in testing WEB and Mobile
 applications.

Cool. AOO is a more traditional desktop application, but the SQA
techniques are similar, at least the methodology part. Our aim is to
improve the quality of the product by identifying defects and bringing
them to the attention of the developers.

I would be happy to help as a tester and get some valuable experience. I
could be helpful with manual testing, fix verifications, and localisation
testing as well. I am fluent in Russian , french and English.

Excellent. We have a webpage with useful information for new volunteers here:

http://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/intro-qa.html

That will answer some common questions and orient you to what we're
working on. It will also get you set up with an account on our
Bugzilla bug tracking system.

You might want to also review some of the other orientation modules
linked to from this page, for background about the project, Apache,
how we work and make decisions:
http://openoffice.apache.org/orientation/index.html

Finally, you'll want to add an entry to the table on this wiki page:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/QA+Testing+Preferences

Once you've done the above let me know and I can send you some
user-submitted bug reports to review and attempt to confirm. We're
working on the backlog of user reports right now. But in a couple of
weeks we'll also start testing pre-release versions of Apache
OpenOffice 4.0.

If you have any questions, post a note to the list and I, or another
volunteer, will respond.

Again, welcome, and thanks for volunteering!

-Rob

 Best Regards
 Alena

Hi Mickey,

Most new volunteers introduce themselves informally, usually telling
things like:

- your preferred name if not obvious from your email address

- where you are from

- general level of familiarity with using OpenOffice

- any prior experience with software testing

- any other fun facts you want to share

Since this is a mailing list, the posts we make get sent to all other
QA volunteers on the project. So this is a good way to introduce
yourself to the team.

-Rob

 Hello Everybody,

I am writing to volunteer for open office Apache. Couple of things, I love
to develop new products, write about trends in technology, and I also
identify myself with open source hardware and software groups in India.

Heres a link to my linkedin profile:
 http://www.linkedin.com/profile/view?id=11777415trk=tab_pro.

Even though I have little bit of coding skills, I am not very confident
about them. So I kind of want to brush my coding skills as well. So I want
 to start with QA.

Look forward to an engaging commitment with open source group here.

 Warm regards,
 Annapoornima
