Hi Ron, We have a Chevy Astro Mini van with a raised roof--it gets everywhere because it is still not high like the FULL SIZE VANS. Before this Van we owned a FULL Size Dodge and that one could not fit in Parking garages or car wash and so on Dan H. RONALD L PRACHT [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Yes it was United Access. The van I have now is a gmc safari with a high raised roof. Im sick of all the drawbacks of a raised top. I know the next van I buy will be a standard roof. I keep reading and hearing bad things about dodge minivans such as bad transmissions. ron c7

Ron, I have a 95 Dodge grand caravan mini van, it's a really good van, gets great gas mileage. My only problem is this damn Indiana weather, it's rusting out like crazy. I don't have a garage living in an apt. Lindaf

[QUAD-L] Vans with raised roof
Hey, Some raised roofs arent as high as others. I was unfortunate that mine sits 7 ft high. Some you could still get in a car wash. In any case a person needs to be aware of all this when they buy a van otherwise you learn the hard way. ron c7

i had my bloodwork done recently and my cholesterol is 275. my good cholesterol went bad as well. i do have a family history of this. all my siblings and both parents. anyway, he put me on lipitor and after 2 days, i had just about every side effect. my body felt like i was having a e-coli uti, (run over by a semi). i felt feverish but no fever. and chest pains. so my question is this: do any of you fellow quads have high cholesterol? i ask because i wonder why my body rejected it so badly quickly. could it be a quad thing? my family had no problem with it. the other drugs i take are pain pills fosamax which the doc knew of them so i don't think it was a drug interaction problem. we can't exercise so i'm gonna try my best with 'the diet'. it was really bad pain, increased spasms too. dianna **Ideas to please picky eaters. I am not Merrill but even after 28 years of quadrum and having three full-sized vans and one minivan... if I had to choose another van tomorrow I have no idea what I would choose. Even with all those experiences including three different van lifts. *sigh*. Pros and cons to everything. I also use a Permobile (Chairman). I am only 5 feet seven or 5 feet eight and ever since I got my Permobil... fitting under tables, not being able to see out of my minivan well, etc. etc. etc Has me accepting what I have to accept for now. I am so used to my Permobil now even though I have had it since 1999 and so used to my minivan even though I can't see out very well at all and I have to bend over quite a bit to get into it... I count my blessings that both the chair and the van are not having any problems and haven't been for quite a while. At one time for several years ... one thing or another went wrong with my minivan after it was in a bad collision (in hindsight I should have gotten a new van) or something or other went wrong with my chair. I know this does not help but everything for all of these decisions is obviously very individual and, from past experience, I have tried everything out first. I rode around in the exact type of Braun Entervan minivan that I was considering purchasing before purchasing it. But when I was trying it out... I was in a different wheelchair and had no idea that my new chair that would be coming a year later in my life (the Permobil) AND would sit so high. Ces la vie. I also tried out the Permobil before considering it but when I DID that... I had a full-sized van with a raised roof and raised doors so I had so much clearance there was nothing to worry about. Hi all. I don't post very often but love all the ideas support from all of you. Now more to the point. We made some modifications with our lowered floor IMS Dodge minivan to help keep it from bottoming out. We installed Gabriel hijacker air shocks in the rear. It increased our ride level by a few inches. Then we put over sized light truck tires on it. Again increasing ground clearance load handling capability. We also upgraded the disc brakes in front to help handle the additional weight of the conversion plus my chair I. I have an Omega Trac chair, that with me in it, tips the scales at 750 lbs. I'm 6'6 the drop floor barely accommodates me. But still is better than being in a van that I can't see out of. My other thought is, if you've got the funding, take a look at Ryno Truck Conversions here http://www.rynomobility.com/dealers.htmhttp://www.rynomobility.com/dealers.htm . I would like my next conversion to be a Nissan Titan quad cab 4x4 they do those, as well as GMC Chevy vehicle options. Anyway best of luck to you in your new vehicle purchase. Re: FW: [QUAD-L] Vans with raised roof
The Blonde Syndrome- it can affect or effect everyone of us. When it comes to individual conversion of a van, truck or suv, I like to see some NHTSA and NMEDA Labels of Approval or Certification. And there may be, I didn't see them. I also saw some other companies mentioned like Epic, and Ricon in additon to the Ryno name. I noticed that each individual company is a LLC, which means limited liability. I don't know who shares the responsibility for doing what to who's vehicle. This would be nice to know. Do you buy the vehicles and then have them converted or purchase vehicles that are prepurchased and converted. Are the designs crash tested? I could be wrong... and hope that I am, but I'm guessing that this organization of smaller companies are competiting with companies like the Braun Corp and their Quality Assurance Programs and warranteed by the original manufacturers after re-manufacturing. Re: FW: [QUAD-L] Vans with raised roof
There are only two companies certified in the USA to perform a 10 inch lowered floor on the Ford full size vans. They are crash tested and NHTSA certified. One is based in California and the other company is in Georgia. By lowering the floor 10 inches reduces the need for raising the roof with a mild sports, executive or ambulance top. Best Wishes In a message dated 3/1/2008 8:13:09 P.M. Central Standard Time, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Thanks for the information Derrick. My van is a Ford full size 150. The company I had do the conversion wasn't permitted to lower the floor, so I have been writing around for the last 12 years without being able to look out the window. Psychologically it's pretty messed up, but I have looked into lower in the floor on a full-size van and unfortunately the government now requires that the van have a certain suspension. I haven't done an exhaustive look yet, but I haven't found a full-size van with the floor lowered so I can still fit into my garage. I only have 96 inches (8 feet) of clearance. I guess that is why I will continue to keep using my current van until I can find one which is able to fit into my garage and allow me to see a little bit more. BTW, when seated properly in my wheelchair I am 57 1/2 inches tall. I can lower myself a little bit, but I am not sure whether I could go up the steep ramp while tilted. Quadius PS excuse the errors. My cholesterol is 155. I can't remember the number of my good cholesterol but it is low. My doctor said its from not being able to exercise like I used to. My neighbor had some pretty high cholesterol and got it down without drugs. He was really careful with what he ate. It was a few months before he got bloodwork done again but it was way down. I don't know your situation and I fear it formyself as my brother is only 5 years older than me and is going down the path of high cholesterol that runs in my family. Good luck with everything.
