Soo... continuing in my Clem build project, as I was installing my vintage sugino gp crank set with 165mm arms, I hit the chain stay with the chain ring. I was upset at scratching the chain stay, but I'm set on having this bike for the long haul, so it will get scratched. (But THIS early?).

The more I think about this, the more I think it is a small variation in hole size. I'll bet that on the valve stem eating rims, the whole is slightly larger than typical, and the tube gets tweaked in there. I don't think my calipers are precise enough to tell a difference, but I'll look into it

I've had the same problem with a VO rim. I don't have many flats, and in the last five years and 10,000 or more miles over half have been valve stem on that rim. Do try Schwalbe or other higher quality tubes. It might not be a defective tube, but a rim that needs a higher "octane" tube, so to sp

If I think the road or ride is dangerous I wear a cotton cycling cap under my helmet and just sweat a lot. The evaporation makes it tolerable. When riding around town I wear a panama style hat from my local hardware store. Good shade and keeps me cool. Gonna start heating up here in Nashville.
