I can't comment on the 50cm Chev, but I have 700x50 tires on my 60cm with a Tektro R559 sidepull in the rear and there's plenty of clearance. Without fenders, I think you'd be fine clearing a 650bx50 on the smaller model. (From my experience, Riv is rather conservative on their max tire size
