I have two Campy Record Triple cranks that I run without outer rings to
create ultra-compact doubles. 135 mm TA and Stronglight chainrings are
available from XX Cycle in France. Bottom brackets are pretty scarce,
though. The inner is a standard 74 mm ring.

i would have zero hesitation to go check out that cheviot. the issue with
pricing is the same one that is in the OP. If he sells it for near the same
price of a new bike from Rivendell, most people will just get the new one.
you have to discount a reasonable amount on any used thing, even if
nice! looks super good. the brooks C17 short versions are pretty nice, my
gf likes it.

Here's the crankset on my Bleriot. Sugino XD cranks, 36/24 chainrings. I
made the chainguard from an old TA 41t chainring by hacksawed the teeth off
and smoothing down with file and sandpaper. Deore XT 2x10 front derailleur.
Rear gearing is an 11-36 10-speed cassette with 9-speed XT rear mech

Not that I know for sure but I am guessing it is actual vs effective. That
said, having two different numbers out there can be confusing unless you
are paying pretty close attention. I was looking at the 58cm Appaloosa
figures the other night and noticed the 59.7 vs. 61.5 top tube lengths
given.
