I highly recommend the Schwalbe HS-159 'fatty' tire that Rivendell
sells.I have them on my bike, and I think it would be tough for me
to get excited about trying anything else.They are smooth on the
road, and I can ride them in the woods too.But I really love them

I think I've finally just admitted to myself that I like drops
better. I have two stache bars in my garage testifying to this fact.
With the drops the Bomba is the most comfortable bike I've ever
ridden. I finally have some pics here of the new bar set-up.
Panniers look nice. But prices - wowser! What's strange - I have
some nice Ortlieb, but did two of my three S24O last year with Arkel
Sackaroos.
For handlebar bags, really starting to appreciate the hobo model more
and more. Can just cram it full of stuff and not worry.

I have 700x40 Schwalbe Smart Sams on mine with no fenders ( live in
SoCal) and there is plenty of room. I bet you could run a 700x 50
roadish tire with no issues (and no fenders).
I just realized I have Sams on my Sam! talk about karma! and my

It rides really well. The third gear is direct drive, second is a 25%
reduction and first gear is a 37.5% reduction. I have the low range
gears set at 39/18. High range is a 42/15. Low range works really well
for hilly terrain and offroad. High range is fantastic for flats.
There is a bit of lag
I appreciate the mechanics and purity of a nice automatic (and love
the two I own) but there is something to be said for the reliability
and relative low cost of a quartz movement.
