2020-04-03 Thread Bicycle Belle Ding Ding!
Joyce, your photo came through beautifully. I love how you have set up your
Clem. The reflectors on the fenders are just so cool looking, and I love that
bag on the rear. Very convenient! And, of course, this nurse is cheering you on
your hip surgery recovery and so pleased to hear how well you are coming along.
Physical therapists are some sort of magic, I’m sure you agree.

I hope your recovery goes just as smoothly, Richard. And I hope you can find a
safe way to involve PT.

And cheers to the teachers who are using their stolen moments for Rivendell
rides in spring weather! And cheers to Roberta because I love her and her zany
idea to make up her rides for the days she misses!

These are the feel-good stories I was hoping to hear when this thread was
started. You all are SO fun.

Thanks Joyce,Really appreciate the information. Helps me put things in
perspective. My first post op consultation is this coming Monday and I’m
hopeful that I’ll get limits on how much I can do. Up till now I’ve tried to be
careful not to overdo anything so as not to mess up the surgery. And I’m also a
bit concerned about PT because of Covid19 and being that close to a therapist.
I’m looking forward to figuring it out with my surgeon. Thanks again,Richard

Re: [RBW] Of Bikes and Bread

2020-04-03 Thread David Bivins
Hi Leif,

Well your loaves look better than mine! I'm just a dabbler in this, but
I'll say a couple of things: the choice of yeast might not have anything to
do with it unless it's too old. I only specified the non-instant type
because I don't use the non-instant type. More like "if you want to start
with how I do it..." How long is your second rise? If it's too long, the
dough will be soupier and the boule will usually be flatter (and sometimes
the bread will be more sour in a delicious way). Also choice of flour makes
a difference. Everything else being equal, I have found that a loaf baked
with King Arthur all-purpose will bake taller than a loaf baked with
Hecker's.

Your loaves look great. Keep experimenting! Also, do you intend to share
those cookies? I'm getting very hungry looking at them.

Have a great night,

David

I am a teacher as well, and like Rob, I make sure to leave the house
everyday for a ride - an even rotation of my stable of Rivs, depending on
the ride. With my wife being a teacher as well, and both our kids at home,
any excuse I can think of to get out for a little zen on the bike is
essential. Went all the way down to San Jose the other day on the Bay Trail
and it was a complete Ghost town. The vibe up in Redwood City and San
Carlos is far less depressing. Most places are closed but almost all the
restaurants are doing to go food so that's at least something.

[RBW] Re: Have an idea for my stash of unused camera film

2020-04-03 Thread 'jeffrey kane' via RBW Owners Bunch
That's a beautiful gesture, Daniel. Attached a link to a free shipping
label. If you're not in a rush, use it and send us your rolls. Just add a
note to me and we'll process them for free. D/M me and we'll sort out a
significant discount for full roll scanning and return shipping as well
- and in the spirit of Daniel's gesture, this goes for everyone on the list
whether he sent you the film or not.

We're doing our best here to preserve our chemistry with the goal to
ultimately bring all of our employees back & reopen when we're allowed. We
did a "closed door" processing run yesterday and our customers delivered
triple what we expected ... all with no customer service, no cash
transactions, pick-up outside the door, etc (!) There was a lot of love
there and we're extremely grateful.

Stay strong (and sane) everyone !!!

[RBW] Re: Nice Try, Assholes!

2020-04-03 Thread Mark Roland
Maybe we could use the subject line to give a hint as to what the post will
be about. It also helps when people search the archives in the future. Then
there's this, from the intro to the group: "a respectful, supportive and
polite tone in all posts."

I tell my ten-year-old, cursing, most of the time, is just lazy; think of a
more creative way to express yourself! (Unless the wrench slips when you're
trying to remove that vintage bottom bracket.) There are exceptions, of
course, where cursing is creative. It's often in reference to itself, like
George Carlin's 7 Dirty Words. Or this Educational Video:

I see a lot of sign posts that lift like golf flags. Be safe, give it a wiggle.
