We are trying to use a UHF GE Rangr that is on packet at the repeater
site as a control radio for the repeater also.
This is most baffling - having any TNC hooked up to the GE Rangr
defeats the decoding of CTCSS used to open the port on the repeater

How can there be a trustee for a privately owned repeater? I
understand the necessity for a group owned or club owned unit. When it
is coordinated under a single ham as owner, his call has expired, and it
is not even at the listed site, I would think that presents a problem.

Yes, I have re-tuned a couple to 144.75. Loops work fine with no mod. You can add a trimmer cap in series with the loop and convert to BP/BR. There is a lot of info one how to do that on the repeater-builder web site.

However, if that is all you can get, then go for it. I have seen guys
mount a Rohn 25 type tower on the platform where the railing is, mount
the antenna on top of the tower section(s) and then the top of the
antenna will see over the top of the water tower.
