I have a first generation G3 beige desktop tower I am using as a server and
the Retrospect runs from there without problems. I back up to DDS-3 Data
tape.
Thanks

Hi all,
We've got a APS DDS4 (Sony SDT-1) that eats a tape every month or
so. It's been back to APS once and I thought it was fixed, but today
:::munch:::.
When it eats one, it will eject the tape, but but a loop of the tape
will still be inside the drive. One thing I just noticed is
Also have you:
1) Restarted the computer? This must be done at least once after you
first setup an automated run. I've run into this were computers tend to
be left on 24/7.
2) Have you looked at the preview so see what retrospect thinks should
be happening?
This really does work...honest.
What confuses me is that why don't the tape drive mfg write their
software to be recognized by Windows as a tape device and all
Retrospect would have to be able to do is read and write to that
device through the Windows library... Wait, that's what is suppose
to happen, no?
I doubt Dantz
Hi Derek,
There are a few factors that may be preventing your scripts for running, in
addition to the suggestions already offered.
If Retrospect is no longer autolaunching, first verify that you've got it
set to automatically launch. Go to SpecialPreferences from the Retrospect
Directory and
I've set up a new backup system for 25 workstations using a blue G3,
an Ecrix drive and 100B-t ethernet. All the systems on the LAN were
backing up nicely except for one server, a blue/white G3 running
Filemaker server 3.0.
For security reasons, this system was set up with the Retrospect

Is this drive just broken? Is this something that just happens
sometimes with DDS mechanisms? Will tape drives ever be reliable?
I've used a variety of DDS2/3 drives and never had one munch a tape.
In fact they've all proved completely reliable.

My current server is OS 9, so I'm guessing that I should be
