Re: Feeling Stupid
Also have you: 1) Restarted the computer? This must be done at least once after you first setup an automated run. I've run into this were computers tend to be left on 24/7. 2) Have you looked at the preview so see what retrospect thinks should be happening? This really does work...honest. Before I would conjecture on what's happening at your site I'd like to ask you some questions. Like: 1) what does the log say? 2) do you have any error messages in modal/non-modal boxes (like backup failed with error "blah blah blah")? 3) did you save the scripts? 4) is your date/time correct? (you might want to go to AutomatedCheck to make sure your script is ready and AutomatedPreview to see when the next script is scheduled to run) 5) do you have media in your drive and is it turned on? Pam P.S. The walkthrough starts on page 57 ("Creating the Script") of the manual and moves into "Executing the Script" further on. It may also be useful to manually run the script to make sure it works (assuming you did go to AutomateScripts and save a script). -- -- To subscribe:[EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Archives:http://list.working-dogs.com/lists/retro-talk/ Problems?: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: Feeling Stupid
Hi Derek, There are a few factors that may be preventing your scripts for running, in addition to the suggestions already offered. If Retrospect is no longer autolaunching, first verify that you've got it set to automatically launch. Go to SpecialPreferences from the Retrospect Directory and click Notification. Is "Autolaunch Retrospect" checked? Does Retrospect try to run a script right after you start it, but not at the specified time? If not, verify that your script is scheduled correctly. Go to AutomatePreview from the Retrospect Directory. Are there scripts scheduled to run? If there are, is the top one scheduled to run soon (as opposed to months or years in the future)? If it is scheduled to run some time in the future, you may have deferred execution of the script. Change this by editing your script. If there are no scripts scheduled to run, you need to reschedule your scripts. Go to AutomateScripts from the Retrospect Directory to do this. If Retrospect tries to run a script right after you launch the program, Retro.Startup, may be damaged. Replace it by doing the following: quit Retrospect, trash Retro.Startup, restart the computer, launch and quit Retrospect, then restart the Mac again. This will produce a fresh copy of Retro.Startup. Also, if you are running Mac OS 9 and have Multiple Users turned on, Retrospect will not automatically launch. For a full Mac OS 9 compatibility statement, please go to http://www.dantz.com/index.php3?SCREEN=os9 If your script still isn't running, it may be time to give tech support a call when you can be in front of your computer. Neither process worked, so I'm at a loss as to exactly how this SHOULD be done. Can someone give me sorta a step-by-step of what I'm doing wrong? (you might want to go to AutomatedCheck to make sure your script is ready and AutomatedPreview to see when the next script is scheduled to run) Date and time is correct (sync'ed via NTP) I deleted my existing easyscript and have started a new one that is, according to preview and check, ready to go tonight at 10pm. (20 mins from now). Does any one beside me find it odd that "backup every day" in easyscript doesn't seem to include weekends? (which was probably my problem last night, so i created a simpler script for this evening telling it to back up weekly on sunday nights.) 5) do you have media in your drive and is it turned on? Yes.
