[RDD] Voice Tracking - rdlogedit

2018-07-01 Thread rivdev
Hello,

I'm new to Rivendell and I'm having some difficulty trying to get voice
tracking to work. Apologies in advance for the length of this email.
In short, I don't see generated logs in RdLogEdit - the service that I
created doesn't show up in RdLogEdit either, so that's probably why the
logs aren't there, but I don't know how to get the service or logs to
show up in RdLogEdit. Hoping for some pointers in the right direction.

I have rivendell set up in a proof of concept and have clocks set up and
logs generating through a service that I created called "Test". Music
has been imported and I have a legal ID timed to the top of the hour.
So, the hours are working as expected, music is being chosen and
scheduled automatically, etc.

I believe, though I'm not sure, that I have the prerequisites set up for
voice tracking. I have a group set up for voice tracks and I have that
group set up as the "Voicetrack Group" in the "Test" service. The
"Test" service has "Chain To" selected and has "Autorefresh" selected.
I have an event called VoiceTracks setup. Within that event I
right-click on the "Pre-Import Carts" and select "Add Voice Track".

Within the clock, I have a 15 second placeholder for voice tracks and I
have selected the VoiceTracks event. I can see the placeholder in
RDAirPlay where the voicetrack should be.

Here's where the trouble begins. I can generate a log using
RDLogManager. The log generates with no exceptions. However, that log
does not show up in RDLogEdit and therefore, it does not appear as
though I can record a voice track. The "Test" service that I set up
does not even appear in RDLogEdit, so the logs aren't there either.

I'm running v2.19.2 on CentOS7, if that's important.

Thank you for any pointers that you can provide.

Steve

Hello,

That was it. Going into RDAdmin and granting the "User" permission to the new
service did the trick. Thank you.

Re: [RDD] Easiest to install .. and update later on ?

2018-07-03 Thread rivdev
Hi Peter,

I just installed CentOS7 this past weekend and, aside from the weirdness of how
CentOS handles networking
(it's not activated by default), it was smooth. The URL with instructions that
you included below discusses
the networking activation step and those instructions are what I followed to
install the system.

Might be worth noting that RHEL7 is the commercial version of CentOS7. I
believe that you'll need a license/support contract with Red Hat to run RHEL7.
There is no license fee for CentOS7.

As to your question about the live cd, I don't know for Rivendell, but based on
experience with Linux and
LiveCDs, I would say that the live cd version cannot be updated.

Re: [RDD] Sound cards

2018-07-03 Thread rivdev
Hello,

I just received a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX PCIe 5.1 (Model
SB1570) today and put it in to an older AMD Phenom/nvidia-based machine
because the on-board sound card wasn't recognized by CentOS7.

The card was pretty much plug and play and is running now. I saw
somewhere in the archive for this list that someone else was using this
card too.

Rivendell sees two available outputs, though I'm not far enough in my
understanding of Rivendell to figure out how to use them yet.

Re: [RDD] rdairplay dies, out of memory

2018-08-14 Thread rivdev

I would think it must have run out of both physical and swap memory then
before killing processes.

I had a Rivendell studio computer stop responding entirely last week.
Turns out someone bumped the power strip. I corrected that but it drove
me to set up Nagios monitoring across the entire Rivendell network,
including servers and all studio computers. The monitoring watches disk
space, physical memory, swap, number of processes, and so on and sends
an email when there's something of note.

The Nagios configuration is reasonably well documented online and
there's nothing special that needs to be done for Rivendell unless you
wanted to watch specific processes and have Nagios take action if a
process goes missing.

Anyway, just a thought that might help to watch what's happening on the
machines.

Re: [RDD] RDAirplay crashes when autorefresh enabled

2018-08-17 Thread rivdev
Hello,

If the segfault through terminal can be reliably reproduced, you might run
strace. The strace utility will show you lots of details about files being
opened, system calls, and so on.

This tutorial seems ok at introductory strace, which might be enough to get
your further. Once you have the files or library calls, that might lead you to
what to downgrade on the system.

https://www.thegeekstuff.com/2011/11/strace-examples/

Hope this helps.

[RDD] Another "How Would You.." Question: Cart Rotation

2018-08-20 Thread rivdev
Hello,

I may be having a problem of not seeing the forest from the trees, so I'm
hoping the collective experience of the list helps.

Our station has sponsors for various specialty shows who have an ad rotation
something like:

Widget Co: 3x per show
Another Co: 1x per show
A Third Co: 2x per show
Fourth National: 1x per show (competes with Widget co, shouldn't play same
break)

To achieve this result, I have set up a cart rotation for each show. In that
cart rotation I setup cuts to play in a specific order
reflecting the above. I then setup an event for each cart and created clock
hours so that the cart would run through once per show.

This seems to work but is quite cumbersome. The same sponsor, say Widget Co,
might sponsor 10 shows during a week, so I need to
import the same ad 3x per cart, resulting in a lot of wasted space. Then if
Widget Co changes the content of their spot it will need
to be reimported - or if they pay late we need to stop their ads for a week,
etc.

What are other ways to achieve this result that I'm missing?

Hello,

My first thought was to make sure there's enough disk space left. There
probably is, but that's the first thing I thought of.

The command df -h will show disk usage in human-readable format.

Next, I'd try to touch a file in /var/snd as the rd user:

touch /var/snd/testfile

That will attempt to create the file as the rd user in /var/snd.

missing. I didn't want to clutter the list with "thank you!" responses to
each.

Next up, what are people using for triggers, as in, interfacing so that
the cart or content is started from the board for RDAirPlay or
RDCartSlots? Related, is there a touch screen monitor that is known to
work or is general consensus to use a mouse?

[RDD] Reconciliation Reports

2018-09-09 Thread rivdev
Hello,

I'm attempting to create reports of traffic played versus traffic logged
to be played on a given day. My thought is that should be one of the
"Reconciliation" reports, but when I try to generate those reports the
end result is an empty report, with just the header. Same goes for the
"Log" report.

When I create the report, I choose the service, the main studio host,
and tick the checkboxes for Traffic and Traffic Log. I have also
ensured that the two groups have "Include this group in Traffic Reports"
selected.

It's notable that Cut Log and Technical Playback reports both work but the only
way I can seem
to get anything is to have the "All" checkbox checked within the Report dialog.

Possibly related, how do I get the "OnAir" flag to show "Y" when something
plays out through the main studio host? I looked through the docs but may have
missed that.

What am I doing wrong?

[RDD] Substitute Voice Track If Missing

2018-07-12 Thread rivdev
Hello,

I have a unique situation whereby we have numerous student volunteers
who do airshifts. Sometimes they fail to show up for their shift,
leaving the Program Director to scramble.

To alleviate some of the load on the PD, I'd like to figure out a way to
substitute a liner or similar content if a voicetrack is missing. For
example, if we have three or four announcer breaks an hour and the jock
doesn't show up, I'd like the automation to pop a liner in there without
needing human intervention.

I'm new enough to Rivendell that I think there's a way to do it but I
don't quite have the knowledge to make it happen or the vocabulary to
adequately search for an answer either. Maybe a macro?

JSON offers no more security than XML and XML can be used on any of the
platforms that you mention. Sounds like possibly you need to learn a bit more
about the current system.

Re: [RDD] Scheduler automation

2022-08-22 Thread rivdev
Hi Chris,

Yes, we had this scheduled to generate the log four days ahead of time,
in order to stay well-ahead in case someone needed to be gone for a few
days. Our cron job ran at 21:18 local time which was (hopefully) a
quiet time for other production activity.

Here's the cron entry. Never encountered any issues with X Windows
getting in the way.

18 21 * * * /usr/bin/rdlogmanager -g -s WKRP -d 3

[RDD] Paid Support

Hello,

What's the status of obtaining paid support for Rivendell? Does Paravel
offer this or are there other companies that do?

Re: [RDD] Mysql Workbench

2023-05-23 Thread rivdev
Hello,

I don't typically use MySQL Workbench but same difference to using the MySQL
CLI which I've used with the riv database. I wouldn't think there's a reason
why it couldn't access the database specifically. Possibly try accessing the
database from the same host using the mysql command to see if there's a more
descriptive error. If the CLI can access it then workbench should be able to
as well. But if not, then things to check are to make sure that the database
server itself is listening on a TCP port, which is not a given depending on
Linux distro. Also, that the user has access from the host where workbench is
installed - the CLI test will tell you that.
