Re: [RDD] RDCatch Download question

2022-06-23 Thread ijames

Good Afternoon,
we have had the same issue with a syndicated show is a solution is to
use a file convention that will be the same if your show has a file
like.

Example: 123456yourfile.mp
I found its easier to yourfile.XX/XX/XX.mp using the date will allow you
to import the file consistently all the time and it will import the
newest file by date all the time.

Good luck

On 2022-06-23 13:57, wa7skg wrote:

We ran into a similar issue. The program provider had variable names
for the files. No wildcards work with RDCatch other than the specified
date wildcards. While I could have written some clever scripts to
handle downloads with cron jobs, etc. it did not meet our system
constraints. (No heroic measures or procedures not readily teachable
and understandable to the general staff in case I get hit by a bus.
That includes anything using CLI.)

Our solution, less than ideal, was to have those few programs manually
downloaded weekly via Filezilla and imported into RDLibrary. A simple
step-by-step instruction page that almost anybody can follow for each
program is in the HOWTO book. There are only three programs in this
category and it takes about ten minutes once a week.

Unfortunately, some program providers have even more limited resources
than we do and their "computer people" have "their ways" that don't
always make it easy on us. Not only do hard-to-automate filenames come
into play, but there are also a few FTP protocols that RDCatch does
not support that leave us hanging as well.

Tony Cox wrote on 6/23/22 7:25 AM:
I am having an issue with a file download using RDCatch and I am
hopeful that someone on the list can provide me with some a workable
solution.

We have a program that we download in 8 segments. It is on a websever
and we access using http. The example address is below.

Example address:

http://serveraddress.com/folderfordownload/filename1616-1.mp3
http://serveraddress.com/folderfordownload/filename1616-2.mp3
http://serveraddress.com/folderfordownload/filename1616-3.mp3
http://serveraddress.com/folderfordownload/filename1616-4.mp3
http://serveraddress.com/folderfordownload/filename1616-5.mp3

Each week the "filename-1.mp3" will change to the next number
(i.e., 1616 will become 1617, then the next week 1618).

I can download using RDCatch if I give RDCatch the exact filename.
But, if I attempt to use a wildcard in the address “filename*-1.mp3,
nothing happens. Additionally, I believe there are multiple weeks of
the “filename*-1.mp3” on the server, so I need to be able to have a
starting point “1616” and then each week have it increase the count by
1.

I hope I am explaining this properly.

I am puzzled and could really use some guidance.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Tony

I executed the following MySQL statement:

It sounds like the database restore wasn't perfect. I wonder what

This system is going to get tested thoroughly before it gets

Today's lesson seems to be: don't try to install Rivendell 3.6.5 on a

1. I noticed that the rivendell database is not shown. I was looking

hidden How do you unhide database.

2.I also found out the problem could be because of older unicode and
could try to replace these in the mysql dump file.

utf8mb4_0900_ai_ci to utf8_unicode_ci
utf8mb4 to utf8
utf8_unicode_520_ci to utf8_unicode_ci

Since RDPlay is 1360x768 the bottom buttons are not accessible because

have the fresh install, I have had to step away from this project for a
couple weeks, I started to work on it tonight. I have not worked on this

up except the last step which is flush the install.

I wrote the password it down so I don't forget it does not work.
Now I can't log in as root.. not sure what happened. I can switch
accounts and login to the machine but not as root. I can restart the
machine and it logs in to Rivendell. Does anyone have any suggestions.

I prefer not to Reinstall Rivendell again.

This depends on your computer, the video card, and the video

1. Does any one have any Ideas how to migrate preview Rivenell

Make a copy of the database [in RDADMIN] save it somewhere on
something.

Copy /var/snd/* to /var/snd/ on the new system server.

rsync over a network will do it. This will take time.

You can pull the drive and connect it in to the new machine and

copy

faster.

If you have a few thousand audio cuts it's going to take time

Restore the database from the old machine in the new machine using

RDADMIN

http://wiki.rivendellaudio.org/index.php/Migrating_Systems

you have to do a restart of RD to get the new system to work.

I am trying to make this painless, and not so much time

Music, Database and every thing has to be added.

is an additional event between the late-running event and the
scheduled event.

Here is an example I observed just now:

In my 23:00 hour log I have a number of timed events including one
timed event (a song picked by RDLogManager) scheduled for 23:37:10.
The event is setup to wait up to 3 minutes if another piece of audio
is playing (I don't know why the PD has done it this way but he has).

When it comes to running the log a song began at 23:34:46. Between
this song (which was actually scheduled for 23:33:50 - no timed start)
and my timed event due to start at 23:37:10 is a 2 second jingle
(scheduled for 23:37:08 - again not timed). The song which started at
23:34:46 doesn't end up finishing until 23:38:02 - this is of course
fine as although 23:37:10 was timed to start, it was set to wait for
three minutes. So RDAirPlay then plays the 2 second jingle and begins
the 23:37:10 song at 23:38:12 - all good.

However when we hit 23:40:10 (three minutes from after the scheduled
time) RDAirPlay attempts to play the song again. It is already
playing so you get an audible glitch and playout stops entirely with
RDAirPlay ignoring future timed starts despite the system being on
Auto.

This is what it looks like in the log (The 23:37:10 song is Cart
400537) - notice the entries at 23:38:12 and 23:40:10 - it is trying
to run the same log line twice.

Arron,

You will find that When you Schedule Music with the rivenell Music

to Refine you log by Looking at when Your run it live and Adjust your

our budget no longer use one. We now do it Manually it takes a little
time but we get better results.
You can also schedule your break on Hard time and it will play you
breaks close to the time you want them to go.

I can't do step by step now but here is a rough guide from memory.

With XllVNC you try to connect with VNC It says no connection

X11VNC is was set up with the system.

The user in question is rd
I set up to have rd automatically logged in on boot.
in .config/autostart I have the following file:
 x11vnc.desktop
That file looks like this:

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=x11vnc
Comment=X11 VNC server
Exec=/usr/bin/gnome-terminal -x /usr/bin/x11vnc -rfbauth
/home/rd/.vnc/passwd -display :0 -shared -forever -solid red
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Categories=Application

For this to work, you will need gnome-terminal installed on the system
and you will need your vncpassword to be set and stored in
/home/rd/.vnc/passwd

Try that and see if you make progress. If you can't get
gnome-terminal, try adjusting the .desktop file as needed.

Thanks

Re: [RDD] Autofill carts and crossfades

2018-11-27 Thread ijames

Check you Segways on your carts.
I would first look to see where you have your segway points. If you
have music its tricky and you have to play around with your start and
end Points to get your desired result. So if you are looking for Music
to Music, Music to Voice, Music to Voice track, its going to be all
different.
To see that your Segs are correct of if you have any. Go to Your cart
library. Then to your cart Open it, look botton right and Click on Edit.
You will then see your waveform.
Place your Curser where you want it to start Click on start SEG and Then
Place Curser where you want it to End. You will have 2 Blight Blue
Lines Marking your segways at the end of your Clip.
You may have to test and move your points a few times to get your
desired result.

As I am a novice here, I would be most grateful if you could do me
the favour of providing an example usage of nested-import.pl, just
so that I get it right first time.

The command-line invocation I am using currently would be:

rdimport --verbose --segue-level=-10 --autotrim-level=-30
--normalization-level=-10 MUSIC *

How would I call the Perl script with these parameters?

The usage is very similar to that of rdimport(1) — in fact, it takes
all of the same options. The difference is that the now
refers to *directories*, rather than files! So, say you had a
directory full of MP3s in a directory called ‘/home/rd/MyMusic’.
You could import the whole batch into a group called ‘MUSIC’ by
doing:

 nested-import.pl MUSIC /home/rd/MyMusic

If ‘/home/rd/MyMusic’ contained subdirectories, it would recurse
down into those as well. And so on.

However, a lot of the real power lies in the fact that all of the
usual rdimport(1) commands can still be given and will work as
expected. Thus, you could do:

 nested-import.pl --segue-level=-10 --autotrim-level=-30
--normalization-level=-10 MUSIC /home/rd/MyMusic

and all of those level parameters would be applied to each import,
just as if you’d done each one individually with rdimport(1).

It works with scheduler codes too. Say Drew has sent you a USB drive
full of Bahamian music, which you’ve mounted at
‘/media/usb_key’. You could create a scheduler code (in
rdadmin(1)) called ‘BHMA’, then import the music by doing:

 nested-import.pl --add-scheduler-code=BHMA MUSIC /media/usb_key

and then every file imported would be tagged with code ‘BHMA’ so
you could program the music scheduler to call for one wherever you
wanted to add a little Caribbean flavor to your music mix. (Of course,
you can also add your standard level parameters to that invocation so
the levels and markers come in just right as well).

Lots of possibilities here. The easiest way to get started is the
experiment with a few files and see what effect turning the various
knobs produce. I wouldn’t try a batch of 5000 files until you have a
good sense of what to expect.

Cheers!

In the 14 ( or is it 18 ? ) machine system we have,
that's exactly how it's done, and for those same reasons.

There is the additional that VNC is also on the on-air
machines so that when the place is unattended, a competent
person can get in and fix something, just in case.
In order to do it, they first have to vnc into the "second"
machine in your scenario, then vnc to the on-air.
The extra steps make it certain that it's not an accident.
Most of the people are coming from vnc on windows, but at least
one comes in from vnc on his iPad.

There is also x11vnc at my desk workstation, but normally not running.
If needed ( it has been ) the procedure is to ssh -L
5900:localhost:5900

into that machine, then start x11vnc "locally" and then VNC in.
It's a bit more secure that way, but not for the neophyte.

If you are Voice Tracking or adding tracks in to the voice tracker and
move your seg points where you want them. and save. I have notice that
the system will update the log as in refresh.when you save your track It
will Skip or sometimes crash. If you are saving when the system is close
to updating itself to the next events. We have had that same issue. So
we try to take our time and go slow if we are loading Multiple tracks

Are you using any timed events? I have never known Rivendell to skip
over

a playable event except because of a timed event.

Which leads me to the second question: are the skipped events
playable?
I've occasionally seen audio files imported into Rivendell with the
start

and end dates enabled and set to something weird.

Will the files play in rdlibrary?

Delete the log to which they belong. You can see which log that is by

[RDD] RD LOGS and VARS

2018-05-21 Thread ijames

I have a question on this Does any one know where the RD Log editor Gets
its Logs.

and were the logs are Kept.
The question for this is we would like to retrieve the logs for the
music and traffic to check the logs and times.
We find that the logs in some hours are short so we have to work on
them. It Difficult to Make adjustment In RD Editor it does not give toy
accurate times. We usaul do it in RD Air Play. I have made a back up or
our system
and was going to make a Seperate Server to get logs with The SQL
Database. I have also made a back up of The Var Directory There's is gdm
and snd directory that are locked.
Where is the Music Kept and also. If we Open The File permission will
Rivendell still work.

I was also wondering if there is a way to have a web server on the
machine and look at the logs in web form.

1. Would there be any conflict adding PHP my admin.
2 The Centos Has a web server Running. Can we have a web server serving
up the Logs and also some type page that you can make changes to the
log.

Do any one have any Ideas

If RD is configured to use local log generation the Log Management

RDAIRPLAY each reading and writing to the table which is the log for
a day.

If Rivendell is doing the music log that's where the data is stored.

Thanks for your response. We where trying to use Online service
Dropbox

I have some programmes delivered via Dropbox© and I mapped a copy of
my Dropbox folder onto my "Production" [hack used to do everything]
machine.
That was easy enough I followed the Dropbox help files.
I then wrote a script that copied the files out of the locally mounted
Dropbox into a local folder.
The script also cleans up the filenames and makes them a bit more user
friendly.

We found having a number of users is a hazard as it only takes one to
delete a file and it's deleted for everyone.
You think the file is there because yu have been sent a link to it.
I also have three different programme providers using  three different
Dropbox so it became just as easy to download them all manually.
I think there is a way to acumulate them but it's just as easy to
click on email links.
These are all syndicated programmes.

For local programmes, news, weather, traffic, waterrestrictions and
breaking news I have a dropbox [note all lower case] on each machine
in 6 locations and each machine polls some or all of th others for
updates which can be created at any one of the sites or externally.
Each machine downloads items it needs locally identified by filename
and one central machine [igor] holds a copy of everything. All the
heavy lifting is done by rsync in shell scripts scheduled by cron with
log files written to the dropbox some of which get emailed as
confirmations the job is done. Some items are carted using rdimport
others [mostly weather] using rdcatch. Weather can be recorded and
updated at any time. We have a series of bulletins which vary in
content so each has a unique name and we can go from fine to frenzy
incredibly quickly.

At one site I use rsync running on cygwin to align folders on a
windows machine over an intercontinental link, one end of which is
very unreliable. Fortunately the time difference allows the far end to
work well in advance of broadcast time. At the near end the folder is
shared to local Windows machines using Samba.

we have been using dropbox long before the name was used to market an
eponymous  service

I figured That you have to manually move files from dropbox to RD.

not necessarily

I am trying to automate The process.

see above

But for right now I guess its ok. I have made the appropriate folders.

I recommend you set up your own dropbox and have contributors
Filezilla or otherwise send audio directly to your server. Relying on
some cloud based service, especially a free one, over which you have
no control is a bit brave for me.

My Other Question as per Weather ect Do you can you have RD catch
Import Voicetracks For different. I have been insuccessful in getting
Rd Carch to work.

I can't get to import anything.

we have a file called trunk9amweather.wav [you can call yours whatever
you like but *NO* punctuation, gaps, wildcards, non alpha numeric, and
no spaces or - at the start of the filename]

it is recorded and placed in the dropbox

/home/rd/dropbox/trunk9amweather.wav <--you need all of this

Set RDCATCH to DOWNLOAD this file. Give the thing a name; use the full
name and location

pick the cart it is to be loaded into

I use autotrim -30 and normalise -13

[some sources I run -10]

make sure you check all the days of the week you want it top
happen;default is none
set the time you want it to run [top left hand corner] 08:58 is good
for 9am If the audio is a minute long give it two and if it's a half
hour programme be prepared for the normalize to take a little while.

the username is rd and the password is whatever password you put in to
users and groups>rd

save

You can test by opening it up again and setting the time to a minute
from now

then hit save as new

close and look for the yellow line which indicates i'm next; it goes
green when it downloads and if successful it is white
Red/Pink is an error and along the right is the reason

Most common after typos is wrong permissions on dropbox and on files in
dropbox.

I make a habit of setting permissions on all files in the dropbox in
shellscripts so everything gets chown to rd:users and chmod 644
although I had to make that 666 to make an OS X Mac happy.

You should be able to follow this as you work through

I have used rdcatch to download some material direct from http and ftp
sources with varying success, some servers just don't deliver, and you
have to resort to wget.
I think much of the problem is incompatible  character sets but you
can run in to issues with filenames including dates. Service provider
labeling inconstancies will drive you nuts as well.

Hope this helps

Hi Jesse

On the CentOS 6? Rivendell system set a password for rd in Users &
Groups in the CentOS Menu System>Administration>Users 7 Groups.

There is a default but better to use your own. Just overwrite the
*
and click OK.

In Filezilla use SFTP [ftp over ssh] which defaults to port 22. OK
on
the same network [ use port fowarding to connect from the WAN]

ssh runs on Rivendell Appliance out of the box.

"Normal" login allows you to configure user name and password

In the 'Advanced' tab set your local and Rivendell directory. We
have a
directory on rd called dropbox so the path is '/home/rd/dropbox'

There are some ready made directories on RD you can use as well.

You can also map that dropbox or any of the rd directories as a
mounted
folder on your windows machine so you just save the audio files into
the
folder on your desktop [or wherever] The Rivendell appliance shares
a
bunch of directories with Samba by default. Use RDCATCH or the
'dropbox'
feature to monitor for files you place in the mounted shared folder
which saves having to Filezilla every time you record the weather.
The
installed folders are already set up. It's easy enough to add to the
Samba shares. man Samba will provide all you need to know.

Be aware that Samba shares have some file naming restrictions that
should not bother you, and you may have to tweak permissions.

I have such shared folder systems in a number of installations and
they
work fine.

Filezilla is my #1 choice for remote access.

The radiotools.uk site is actually one of mine and that's how we do
remote voicetracking at First 105.1 FM in Oxford, UK. :-)

Basically you install the ALSA/Jack bridge and set Rivendell up to
talk to that. Then any ALSA application (VoIP, Chromium etc) can send
and receive audio to it. We no longer use VoIP but a website called
cleanfeed.net with Chromium installed as a web browser on the
Rivendell machine people will remote to. We also use Guacamole for
remote desktop access.

So all a remote presenter has to do is open Chrome, click two links
(one for the remote desktop in the browser and the other for the
Cleanfeed site for audio) and they're ready to go as if they were in
the studio. This also means there's no software for the remote user to
install (no need for VoIP, Teamviewer, VPN or RDP setup as we used to
have).

If there are any questions I'll try and answer them. :-)

on an appliance installation the 'home folder' for 'rd' is /home/rd

which you can access from Places>Home Folder from the menu across the
top of the screen.

you can create a folder here called 'dropbox'

command line: mkdir /home/rd/dropbox

or by File>Create Folder in the GUI Menu

dropbox is a local folder in which we put things like weather traffic
news and magazine items for inclusion in the playout using rdcatch or
the dropbox feature

Now are you trying to sync a local folder with the on-line cloud
service "Dropbox" ?

It is possible but it's way more reliable to roll your own.

I don't know how you can get rdcatch not to use username and password.
are you using DOWNLOAD?

In Filezilla use SFTP [ftp over ssh] which defaults to port 22. OK
on the same network [ use port fowarding to connect from the WAN]

ssh runs on Rivendell Appliance out of the box.

"Normal" login allows you to configure user name and password

In the 'Advanced' tab set your local and Rivendell directory. We
have a directory on rd called dropbox so the path is
'/home/rd/dropbox'

There are some ready made directories on RD you can use as well.

You can also map that dropbox or any of the rd directories as a
mounted folder on your windows machine so you just save the audio
files into the folder on your desktop [or wherever] The Rivendell
appliance shares a bunch of directories with Samba by default. Use
RDCATCH or the 'dropbox' feature to monitor for files you place in
the mounted shared folder which saves having to Filezilla every time
you record the weather. The installed folders are already set up.
It's easy enough to add to the Samba shares. man Samba will provide
all you need to know.

Be aware that Samba shares have some file naming restrictions that
should not bother you, and you may have to tweak permissions.

I have such shared folder systems in a number of installations and
they work fine.

Filezilla is my #1 choice for remote access.

You could also use a ftp server, some servers allow you to map a user
to a directory other than the servers root directory.
This user could be mapped to the dropbox directory.
He did say using the local IPv4 address, so its on the internal
network.

logical "AND" -- but not a "NOT"?

The goal is to assign a chunk of their music library a scheduler code
that would prevent it from airing overnights (i.e., they want
slower-tempo songs only during nighttime). I don't see a way of doing
this in the Scheduler option in the current rev of RD.

If adding the "NOT" option isn't practical, are there any other ways
of accomplishing this without burning up the one single Daypart field
for the Cut?

(They're coming from an automation system that allows hour-by-hour
selection of valid air times, with the practical effect that they can
achieve multiple valid "dayparts" for each given day.)

be right at the top of the hour? If so, you'll need to put some sort
of "fill event" at the end of each hour, such as instrumental music
or an old-fashioned interval signal (e.g "Shiroka strana moya
rodnaya") and set the fade time to three or four seconds to make a
gentle fade-out.

At WSCS and the other WCN stations, there is exactly one hard start
each day, in the middle of the night, preceded by a long piece of
fill music; the rest of the day is programmed to time out naturally
as close as possible to the top of each hour. This works, but not so
well that we would be able to catch CBS news live at the top of the
hour.

Oh, and don't put a hard start or a make-next anywhere near
midnight, unless you know what you're doing. I don't know how many
times I've had calls from people wondering why their stations were
running Wednesday's log on Tuesday.

We use rsync to sync the /var/snd directories in our servers. Syncing
the databases is a little more complicated. If you have the network
bandwidth, running a single primary database would be best. Make all
they quires to that database. You can do a daily snapshot of the
database to keep the standby database server mostly up to date in case
of a complete network failure. Also, since Fred implemented keeping a
checksum of the audio files in the database, I'd run a periodic
consistency check to make sure there hasn't been any corruption in the
audio files.

There are a couple ways to set up the firewalls with respect to
network traffic that isn't between VPN connected sites. One is to
allow each site access to the Internet for non-associated sites and
only run the site to site traffic over the VPN. That gives sites the
fastest access to non-associated Internet sites. The other way is to
send all the traffic of a subsidiary site back to the main site before
it goes out on the Internet to non-associated sites. That is a choice
that is made for various reasons. The main site might have better
restriction controls for Internet access. Their may be a concern about
an attack that traffic analysis would play a part in. You can exercise
QOS based prioritization if all the traffic going to and from a site
is kept within the VPN. Traffic presented to the public Internet
doesn't carry QOS so incoming traffic could delay database responses
or any live audio you might be transporting.

Isn't this what the Server/Client model is all about?

In our deployment, our main studio is located in another town from

is also the active RDAirPlay host), and workstations at both my
location and the owners location. All of our networks (two home
locations, the main studio, and translator sites), are linked
together with VPNs across the internet.

The good:

We don't have to drive 30 miles to the main studio to make
schedule changes or add/remove content from the Rivendell system.

The bad:

It's painfully slow doing anything in Rivendell that's not on a
local LAN.

There are no issues with all of the Rivendell systems running at
the same time provided you don't work on the same thing from two
different locations. Even if you do though, the last change would
win. With the remote workstations, we're able to maintain content,
create and edit clocks/logs, pull reports...Pretty much everything
you can do locally with Rivendell, it's just slower. The speed
penalty is due to network latency. Two things we use to make this
easier for us: a NAS (with NFS mounts for the Rivendell Server),
and an IP KVM (from Avocent) that gives us a remote console to the
Rivendell box for operating it as if we were right there in the
studio.

The "glue" that makes this all happen is the VPN. There are
volumes written on VPNs, network security, remote access
technologies and they go far beyond the scope of Rivendell itself.
I would not recommend running a VPN directly on the Rivendell host
and instead build up a VPN on your network router, or use a VPN
service to tie your networks together. Keep in mind your security
requirements and trust between your partners network and your own
(in a site-to-site VPN, any computer on either side of the VPN has
access to all network devices on all VPN end-points).

[RDD] Several questions Voice Track & Logs Backups

2018-02-21 Thread ijames

1.)I would like to know if anyone has a solution for voice tracking. I
am thinking to have a couple people voice track for us There are several
ways to do it but the easiest is to have the record the Tracks and send
them Thru a Drop Box acount. We look in to having them log in to the
computer Thru Like a log me in account but we don't feel Comfortable
doing that. Do anyone have any solutions on this.
2.) We area also Looking at trying to get the logs out of rivendell.
Its a tedious process. You have to convert ever log in a text file. the
send it over the netorn to another machine. How can you get access to
the logs Does anyone have a better solution.
3.) Does any on know if there is a way to display the log in a web Page
format Like running a web server.

4.) Has anyone tried loading PHPMYADMIN On CENOS6.
5. Backing Up Database and Music Library Does anyone have a easy way to
do this. I would like to Make backups Of both and mysql data Base. I
prefer GUI Solution

Thanks
