In my original post I wrote "Union Interface". It should have been "Unity
Interface" instead.
It is Ubuntu specific and therefore not commonly known in the Linux world.

Use Fluidsynth, either standalone as external programm (controlled by
qsynth for example) or as a DSSI synth
on of the thing you can install is qsynth, and let it load the
soundfont., the qsynt will apear as a softsynt in rosegarden
