As you probably have found out, unless under the thumbs of
someone who can find lift, work it, and come home to the spot, airfoils
don't provide any value beyond conversation.
Ever tried flying DLG with a Clark-Y or an NACA6412 vs a Drela foil?
You just might see a spot of difference - like

How about I send my designated proxy, say DP, and let him have a whack at
it? OK? Still up for the mano-a-mano thing?
Or maybe ask the guys at the Rose Bowl

Its a trade-off...the Clark-Y is a moderately performing, stable,
vice-free airfoil that'll take a lot of flying abuse. The tighter airfoils will
give more lift but they are likely to have a narrower window where that

It might be worth building a DLG with a Clark-Y airfoil; I don't think
anyone's done it so I don't think we can say its that much worse than any
other foil. (I suspect it will work rather well, especially if there's an
expert flying it.)

Bill,
If airfoils do not make any difference, then why do the guys you mentioned
always try to find better more efficient foils and planforms all the time?
You missed my point. For the guys I mentioned, they DO make a difference.

Of course, that's 99%. Missed shift. I hate that.
