It might be worth mentioning that Octane 3.0 will have both GPU/CPU rendering.
Its Network rendering is incredibly easy to use and is very efficient.
Also the stand alone app is great for folks who use alembics as part of their
pipeline.

I will only strongly suggest that you get cards with as much RAM as you

Hi again,
I'd like to change my mail adress to keep following the Softimage list.
I've send a "subscribe" mail to softimage@listproc.autodesk.com, I'm
still waiting for a validation...
How long is it suppose to be ?
My new adress will be facialdel...@gmail.com
Maybe tomorrow, fingers crossed.
Hi gang,
I'm doing simple tests for an upcoming job that should involve
destruction stuff, like walls and houses.
So, I gave a try to Momentum and Implosia.
I remember there was an old Momentum + ice setup or a tutorial, I think

as much as I know those risers and extensions can't really support full

yep exactly like the one on the image :) a lot of nice space and rad

The cheapest option would be any brand with the reference design coolers,
which are pretty much straight from nvidia. They push the heat out of the
rear of the case, you can set a custom fan profile to try to keep them from
throttling.
The water-cooled version looks great, and the temps are fantas
Along these lines - which 980ti would you guys recommend? I found this an
EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti Hybrid which has built-in watercooling and a
separate fan to mount in the back of the cabinet - pretty cool.

Depends on which card you end up going with. But even a 970 x 4 will draw
900 leaving you with 600 room for the rest. And that could be fine
initially. But consider the fact that power supply ubits become less
efficient over time and will start to output less wattage.
On Thu, Aug 6, 2015, 6:31 AM
You don't need anything bigger as a matter of fact I'm running that exact
PSU for 4x Titan X, and before them it was pushing 4x Titans.
Nothing more is needed. 1200W is cutting it a bit too close but 1500 is
perfectly enough.

So for a 4 GPU workstation setup - would you suggest something like the
Corsair AX1500i or should it be bigger?

The conversation was aimed towards renderfarms rather than workstations
though, and I imagine running a render job per gpu rather than per node, so
that the scaling per gpu is much better (ie 100% minus maybe a small hit on
the cpu usage being shared). Could be run headless so no need for a display
Would you guys find the 980Ti hitting the sweetspot between price and
performance?
How about connectors and power supply?
The 970 is running on 2x6pin, e.g. a maximum of 150 Watts plus the 75
Watts from the slot, a 225 Watts total.
The 980ti is mostly 1x6pin and 1x8pin, the 1x8pin offering 1
