It can be the same copy run twice. That would not work, as only one
process can use the ports being used by LMS.
I always have Activity Monitor running on my LMS server to show what is
happening within the system at any time. Only one instance of Perl is
shown running.
That's not real-time
My setup is pretty similar and Im quite happy about it.
Its very flexible, especially if I want to set up a second server
instance for testing etc or when accessing the music from different
machines. My NAS also has RAID which makes handling disc faults and
upgrades easier.
The downside is

Does anyone know if there's a major performance hit if you use a network
storage device for your music?
I run LMS 7.9.0 on a Windows 2008 Server Virtual Machine, running on an
ESXi host. My music is stored on a 4TB NTFS-formatted SATA drive. I've
tried connecting this drive to the ESXi host

If you're using Spotty, then you'll need to update LMS to the latest
7.9.1 nightly build, as there was an issue with earlier versions and the
play URI feature.

If you want Spotify via LMS then you are going to need to move it to new
hardware.

I don't think XP is supported by librespot (the code Spotty is built
with) or going to be. It is after all way beyond "end of life".

Sorry for shouting, it's been a long time since I've been 'under the
hood' LMS and 5 players work well with Triode's spotify plugin. Went on
iPeng this morning and saw the flash up about the spotify plugin support
changing and to move over to spotty. Clicked to install spotty in the
repository
Perl does not install with LMS - a version of Perl is included as part
of OS. LMS provides its some of required CPAN libraries.
If you upgraded the OS from say 10.x.x to 10.12.* - I guess there is a

10.12.x to 10.12.y - I'd guess
